After hearing so much about how great they sound and how no one can tell the difference between the Zax wires and a hard wire, I thought I'd take the plunge and step up my wireless quality and count. Plus I hate how noisy the Lectro 400s / 205s I've got are, as I've complained about before. So I bought three TX-900AAs. They worked in tests and sounded great. Then I used them in the field. But they don't have range for crap! 50mw?!! A standard output is 100mw, so why on Earth would Zaxcom think it's okay to make their units with only half the normal output?! I noticed right away the Zaxcoms had WAY less range than my normal Lectros. Good thing I use sharkfins be…

I worked with one of these cameras during the week....HD images, waterproof separate housing that allows sound to be recorded on board and underwater. It has a few good attachments like a suction pad and can be head mounted...great for the action stuff where you wouldn't place your good mics...check out some of the videos done so far... HI everyone, I have a friend doing a corporate low budget project in dusseldorf DE. He is traveling from the states and is thinking he can maybe use his VHF radios instead of this apparently illegal(566-608 mghz) UHF radios while in germany. Is this an option? Secondly, any rental suppliers in Dusseldorf that are trustworthy? thanks, john.

I do the sound and media at my church. We are currently using a TASCAM CD-RW900 to do all of our recording. It is not getting a signal right now. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what it could be. By the way, this piece of equipment is brand new and was working perfectly a couple of weeks ago. Thanks.

Just a quick note. I purchased one of the new Zaxcom LT transmitters to augment my stable of TRX-900 units. I've been using it as my main unit for a few days to check it out. It has some nice new features. It's a bit smaller than a 900 and runs on one AA battery. Battery life with an AA Lithium is approx 6 hours. It also uses a micro SD card and sits in a nice protected slot. The unit, using updated electronics, is more efficient so it doesn't heat up. The gain seems slightly less (approx 2 db) than the 900's. Haven't done any long range scenes to see if range is any different than the 900's. Zaxcom says range should be the same, though ifb control range should …

Found one of these banging around in the water storage drawer here at the studio. What do you think, a little bit of nostalgic fun good for an impromptu live to 2-track (with outboard preamps / mixer) or not worth the trouble?

What are some good ways to hide a flat head mic under clothing such as the TR-50, VT-500, Sonotrim, PSC, etc? Vampire clips work well, but tend to still make lots of noise.

I'm on a doc out in SF, set-up my bag yesterday in LA and tested everything before hand. Got in to SF last night and today I went to test out some workflows and now nothing is powering up. When I plug the np cup adapter straight into the 744t, the 744t powers up fine. I'm not sure what could have happened in between yesterday and today but the problem seems to be with the Battery Bud. Anyone experience anything similar and possibly know a fix? I currently have one output powering the 744t and one output powering 1 Lectro 201 and 2 letro 211's. Thanks

I just came across this on Facebook...very cool, if you need it. It was developed by a local (Toronto) sound guy named Don Grunsten. I have never met him, but I hear he is a great guy The company is called BoomBox.

Does anyone know of a Porta-Brace style accessory bag, or something like it, used to carry a Zoom H4N with a mixer in a smaller Porta Brace setup? I would have bought Petrol, which is more modular, but someone at the school bought small Porta Brace bags and I'm trying to make them work.

Shooting promo webisodes for a Disney movie on this today, so I thought I'd let y'all know the deal while I wait for talent. Basically, the good news is that it is straightforward like a Panasonic of this size (e.g. HVX-200). XLR inputs, external line/mic switch, manual/auto switch, level wheels. Level meter with legend (dB numbers) in LCD window on side of camera; not just in the viewfinder, which is nice. Unique feature is level wheels can lock, so you don't have to tape them down. Not much to say. Definitely an improvement over Canon's old video cameras (whichsets the bar low). Perfectly servicable camera. And accepts external time code on a BNC and can jam. That…

Hey Gang, Tried doing some searches, but came up short - anyone have any recommendations for a monitor for a mac mini? Maybe something in the 9 to 11 inch range? I don't need anything too fancy - so far anything I've come across seems to cost maybe $700 and up. Ideally I'm looking to pay less than that. Thanks, -Greg-

Howdy all. I was referred here by the fine folks at rec.audio.pro. I'm a live/studio cat in the NYC burbs looking to dip his toes into location recording. My stepfather, a semipro videographer, asked that I specify two lav kits (mic, belt pack, reciever) and a mixer for direct input to his handheld DV cam. Mic kits should be ~$300, mixer should be ~$1.5k . Having access to some additional funding, I decided this would be a great opportunity to look at longer-term options re pooling resources with him for a larger location sound loadout and then looking for work in the city. Thoughts and activities so far; Called full compass, they sugg…

Apologies if this has been recently discussed, but I'm looking for a tuner to receive standard def modulus video. I've got an external antenna that receives UHF, so I just need a small 12-volt tuner. In my searches I came across the beastly Sony TU-1041U (way too big), and the cheap and small Boss BV TS4 (has mixed reviews). The Boss is cheap enough to try out, but takes 7.5 volts so I'd always have to be plugged into power in order to use the wall wart. (Or I could spend $200 and get a juicer from Remote Audio I know!) Just checking to see if there was a model out there that everyone uses. I don't care so much about resolution or HD or digital or any of that, 4…

Just wanted to get some feedback on those using (or have used) the PSDM302 before. I have seen some photos of some of bags using the SD-7 series recorder with the SD302, and was wondering whether you had any difficulty in turning the knob of the 7 series recorder. Coz I'm planning down the line to get a 744T with a SD302 in the PS607 bag (if its not too tight to fit the fingers). Do you guys have a hard time turning the knob, it seems like a tight fit to get the fingers in (from the photos). Appreciate your feedback experience on this. Thanks, Lawrence

any MKE1 users on this board? wondering if it has it's use in film-production? it's being advertised as a live performance mic for theater-applications.. How does it sound compared to a COS11? I like the size, and the anti-kink cable-sleeve looks like a useful addition.. Thanks, Diego

Hello, I'm still shopping for a used lectro lav/receiver. With a budget of $500, I see many models but I'm having trouble understanding the differences. Can anyone clarify the numbers between 185 - 195. There seems to be 185, 187, 190, 190B and 195. Thanks!

Got some more air traveling gigs coming my way, and have been wanting to buy a much shorter boom for easier packing. Before I was taking my 12' Loon with me everywhere, which was not very easy. I tried a few months ago to special order a custom Loon shorty, but I think this request happened during their drama and got ignored. So far I've been looking at the K-tec KE79 but wanted to hear from any other users what they might recommend, or perhaps if they have anything like this to sell?
