Anyone have any good ideas about how to Barney a RED without sound blankets? This camera is just soooo noisy even in it's "quietest" mode.

Anyone have an idea when the new Audio Technica BP896 is going to readily available for purchase in the States?

Hey everyone, Thanks in advance to all those who contribute to the forum, it's embarrassing how many hours I spend reading posts. Anyway, I'm having a nagging problem with a camera hops setup. Here are the players: Camera: Panasonic SDX900 Audio Hops:2 Lectro UCR411a blk25, powered by hirose 4 pin- lectro plugs (LSC) Video TX on cam: Modulus 3000, powered off anton bauer splitter. When the video transmitter (vtx) is turned on, the camera operator will occasionally report a hum through his monitor. We've checked the tape and confirmed the hum is being recorded to tape. Tinkering with the VTX cables and hops cables relieves the problem temporarily, but they…

Hello all, Does anyone have any experience location-recording with the Sonosax (not Edirol) R4 ? I will be recording sound for a documentary shot with the Sony Z7. I will probably be booming with Schoeps M/S or CMIT, and, occasionally, some DPA lavs. For an interview-type situation I will probably have two mic (one on a stand, one in boom). I am in the dark about the AA battery consumption of this device, and especially curious about how quick do they run out with the preamps phantom on. I will be shooting in the summer in a very hot and dry environment, are extreme temperatures demanding on batteries or is it just extreme cold? David

Hi all! I'll have to work with an ARRI 235 35mm camera. Please write down your experince with it. How noisy it is indoor-outdoor, what do I have to look for, etc... I'll probably use my PD6 with EX12 or SD788t. Thank you for your responses! Daniel Böhm

I didn't exactly have a problem with my old elastic suspension system, but based upon my experience with the Rycote Invision on a boompole, I can only imagine that this provide some level of performance improvement. Sound on Sound was having a free offer with a subscription, so I jumped on board and took advantage of it... Anyways, pretty cool... http://www.rycote.com/products/invision_studio/

Hello all, Destroyed my 2-space drawer on the last movie. It wouldn't stay closed very well, and it opened while I was moving the cart and caught on a steel post, bending an mangling everything. I don't need the drawer to lock, since using a key every time I move is a pain, but I'd like the drawer to be well built so the latch works properly. I have several brands of drawers of various ages, and NONE of them seem to stay closed with the little plastic latches. Please let me know if you have discovered a particularly reliable brand and model of a 2 and 3 space drawer. Thanks, Robert

Was doing a 2 camera RED Shoot yesterday I had a hardwired timecode cable to each camera both build 30.5 occasionally one of the cameras would lose sync in order to to get it to re jam. We had to power down the camera and my 744T in order to get it to re jam. The other camera never had a issue all day.

Noticed that the QRX100 says "AVAILABLE" now on Zaxcom's site. Just got off the phone with Glenn. Out in 4 weeks and incredible price... Single line - $1,800 Two line (2 transmitter) - $2,000 Four line (2 transmitter) - $2,200! Considering a RX900S is $2,000. This is like (2) RX900S Receivers PLUS all the other QRX100 features (and there are a lot of them) for nearly half the price! "The perfect camera hop" ... & MORE! Another no brainer from Zaxcom -thanks Glenn

I was asked to work on a two camera DSLR shoot. I was wondering if I had a second Sennheiser receiver (on the same frequency) could I send a low quality (we're in the same small room the whole time) guide track to each DSLR using just one Sennheiser EW100 G3 transmitter off my field recorder? Would be easier on Plural Eyes in post than using the in-camera audio (if you can all it that ). The reason I'm asking is that I don't know if there's any interaction between the receiver and transmitter that would make two receivers impossible. I hope this question isn't too ridiculous - I searched both within this forum and elsewhere but found a lot of questions related to fo…

I did a search and nothing came up. I'm working a home improvement show and am having problems with my lavs failing due to too much sweat. I'm using Sonotrims and initially the issue was at the transmitters with moisture getting in where the mic connector goes into the Lectro transmitter. I came up with a solution for that, and now the mic themselves are having intermittent issues. They'll work fine for a while and then get steadily noisier until I have to change out the mic. The units that went down worked for a while after drying out but the issue came back eventually, even though they were no longer in a sweaty environment. I'm concerned that the moisture got int…

I tried doing some searches for the problem I'm having, but have come up short. Alright - so the DC adapter I bought and modified with a 4 pin XLR works in that it powers the computer, but once in place on the cart with all the connections I get this really awful "digital noise" that is present thru my system. Everything is powered thru a PSC powerstar - (minus a Motu 828mk3 - currently on AC) If I unplug the power connector to the computer - the noise goes away. If I unplug the firewire connector that goes to the 828, the noise goes away. With everything connected and the 828 turned off, the noise gets louder! Of course - if I run the laptop of regular AC -…

Hello all, I am a newbie, and indeed am beginning my adventure into the jungle of location sound. I am a year out of school and have established myself as a sound guy within local networks (doing small gigs/short films with rented gear) and I would like to attempt at putting together a basic sound package that offers flexibility for me as a location/post/composer guy. I am based in Michigan and thanks to the current tax incentives, have had film work become more available. I am looking to gear myself towards a cart-based setup for indie non-union feature/commercial work. I have read many threads on this robust forum about the different sorts of equipme…

Anyone out there know of a product that can be purchased in small quantities that will remove, melt or destroy the tensile strength fibers (jute, plastic, whatever that stuff is) from between the strands of copper wire within a lavalier's cable jacket and insulation? I'm quite adept at soldering and de-soldering the smallest of objects, but I'm getting a little tired of hand dissecting that stuff from the seven or so measly strands of copper on each conductor lead. I've tried conformal coating remover and citrus-based products with no luck.

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have experience with the ICM20 inductive earpiece? they're made by a UK company called sensorcom. How do they perform? I would like to use them for cueing and playback purposes where the actor has to sing a long with a song and have his dialog in the same take.. Thanks all, Diego

I'm about to buy either one of these recorders, apart from the obvious (tracks and internal hard drive, or lack of it) What are the practical differences if any in usability? Is the timecode implementation the same? Thanks in advance...........

Hey all, Just putting some final touches on the new sound cart (Pics to follow) I am wondering what our you guys doing for ramps to get into your vehicles. I went online and found some cool roll up ramps and stuff. Just thought I would ask around. Now, I would like to hear about rolling the cart in as a single entity. I know some of you use modular systems so you can pack it away in pieces. I am going to have it stay as one piece (except for the Cantar coming off). I would love some suggestions, or maybe a couple of pics. The cart is no use to me if I cannot get it into a van by myself. Brian H Rebel Recordings

Would anyone happen to have a source they could share for colored indoor windscreens that would fit Schoeps MK41's? I own a few of the windtech versions but they are so skimpy even with the smallest of swings they just aren't up to the task. (unless there is a model I dont know about) Would be great to find something around the size of the Schoeps B5. I appreciate it.

Hi all I am considering upgrading my 788T to the SSD drive while it is in WI for a repair. Are there distinct advantages of the SSD, I will do some reading up on tyhe matter and contact SD about as well of course. Just wondering who on this forum is using the SSD version and if there are performance considerations.

I'll be recording from my 442 mixer to a flash drive, but the producer wants to also send my 2 channel mix to camera. I understand the D5 has a stereo mini input. How should I cable this from my mixer? Will the unbalanced tape out work, or should I use an XLR "Y" cable from the main outs and adapt those to a stereo mini? Is the d5 input mic or line level? Thanks

I, like most all of you, use adhesive-backed Velcro to temporarily attach things to other things. I've been looking for a pattern or some kind of standard to determine what thing should have the "hook" and what thing should have the "loop". I don't know how many times I've ripped the Velcro off of a screwdriver, Comtek, sync box, transmitter, etc., because the camera, speaker, mixer, etc., has "hook" one time and "loop" the next. My only concern is that the "hook" thing will unintentionally stick to other things besides the corresponding "loop" object. Anybody else ever think about this?

Hi all, hope this is the correct forum for the post. I have an older MXP 290, works very well.....except the CH R fader is starting to act up on me. I don't really use the aux 1 & 2 outs, so could I just swap out the faders or is there a better solution. Don't think I could get parts for this old machine. I have not pulled of the cover yet. Thanks Tom

I was using my set up on some 2nd unit work the other day when I ran into a problem with what I believe is a phantom power supply issue and I was looking to see if anyone else had run across this. We were running 6-7 channels most of the day, one or two booms and 4-5 wires ( @ line level ) and during a set up change we noticed a high pitched whine coming from the boom channel and the mic was not passing audio at all. We heard this sound on both the PFL and the fader, re-patching the cable changed nothing, swapping the boom duplex and re routing the cable did not change it, power cycling the recorder did not change anything and switching from genny power to my 12 vol…
