In the market for a new recorder. Own a 744t and like it, but want a deva/fusion/hsp82 multi xlr in, touch screen style recorder. Without bias, how do these two compare? Is the price difference with it? Havent used Zaxcom, but read and heard that they are the best of the best. I have used a Tascam HS-P82 and felt it was a decent recorder. I am in the market for a new recorder and decided on the Fusion, since its a similar recording setup with CF cards to the Tascam. I am looking at the 10 and 12...is the extra 500 worth two more tracks? I wont be recording at 192 ever, so this doesnt affect my decision. What features are practical? DVD burner and other fe…

I 'm currently booming on a feature with the RED camera, and we are constantly plagued with a constant high pitch whine from the RED LCD monitor mounted on the camera. We are using primarily a CMC641 mic and it is driving us nuts. Don't get me started on location selection, but if we can just get the RED monitor knocked down, that would be a huge help. Any suggestions ? Rob

So I have an IDX NP-L50 that just started acting odd. The JL-2 charger says it's fully charged, the LEDs on it indicate full charge. When I put it in my Fusion, the unit won't power up. When I put it in the shoe for my BDS, nothing will power up. I tried it in an NP-1 adapter with 4-pin XLR and it won't power anything. When I test the contacts, I do get proper voltage. I tried it in the NP-1 to XLR-4 adapter and still get the same voltage (so the contacts are ok). It *seems* the battery fails under any load. I've never seen this happen before, I'm used to NP batteries slowly losing capacity. I often use them for powering my 442 and Lectros, so a certain loss in capacity…

Hey guys, I'm sorry for this topic. Since this camera appeared I've recorded audio separately from the 5D using a clapboard. My question is, is it possible to feed the camera via my recorder? Is there any issue of giving a line level signal? I definitely hate doing this through the minijack! Thanks in advance, Marco

Hi folks, My 416 and K-tek K152 pole at full extension took a fall today. It was leaning in the v of a tree's branches and a gust of strong wind blew it out of the v and over it went, ouch!! It was in a K tek mount with a Koala Fluffy. It landed on the side of the fluffy, which offered some protection and thankfully and the 416 still works. The pole seems to be okay too, not showing any fractures in the carbon fibre. It landed half on grass and half on gravel road. The 416 however, sounds like it should but seems to be hissing more than usual (I think). I compared it to my Sanken CS3e (which is rarely used, in its box) and the CS3e sounded like it was hissing alot too.…

For those mixers using the Lectro 400 series for wireless boom, do you use the Smart Noise Reduction algorithm to reduce the hiss produced by the mic preamp or the mic itself? Or do you keep it off to preserve complete transparency? Thanks in advance, Gabi Cunha.

Strongly considering purchasing SD 552. I have a question for users: How is the SVEN system working out for you. Is it easy to change critical functions quickly? Is it intuitive? Do you get used to the SVEN accent? Thanks! john.

Hello, To those that are familiar with these bad boys, I was looking to get some feedback on the regular model, compared to the "reduced sensitivity" version. Is the reduced sensitivity a new idea that is showing well in the field?

Has anybody out there taken their SD302 apart. The headphone connector on mine has gone south again. Hate to spend the $100 plus dollars they charge to replace it. I don't know if I am alone in the fact that these connectors don't last. Most of SD stuff is pretty good. I talked to someone in the service area, they don't advise individuals taking them apart, nor where they interested in using my supplied connector assembly to fix it right and no advice on taking the 302 apart. He did mention that there are vertical circuit boards on the ends along with horizontal circuit boards in the center. Thanks in advance. David Rogers

Allen and Heath have a new FW mixer coming out. I was reading a bit through the manual. Can be clocked via adat or FW. Can send pre(including high pass) or post eq down FW. 2 parametric eq per channel. Midi out. 48watts and a bit over 2 feet wide. MSRP 1500£ Seems pretty cool http://www.allen-heath.com/zed/zed-R16.asp

Hi guys! I'm working on a feature this summer which is being shot on a Canon 5D mkii. I will be recording my boom and lavs into my Sound Devices 744T and sending a wireless output from the 744 into the 5D to use as a guidetrack. The 5D has a stereo 1/8" input with manual gain control (64 steps). How have you guys out there dealt with this type of connections? How are you dealing with impedende issues if any? I guess if you are pluging a microphone directly into the camera there might be impedance issues. But how about when I send line level outputs of the 744T to the 5D? Should I be worrying about impedance matching and getting a converter? Also, as I might want to…

Hey all! I know this may be a little less than what everyone normally works with... but I recently rented out my fostex fr2le unit (everything find on departure) and when it came back, there was only one channel showing on the unit (channel 1 or L). I was thinking it was an arming issue, since I never saw it before, but couldnt find anything regarding track arming, etc. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! Justin

Ok, so I'm looking at these 3 boom box units, but I cannot decide which would work for the following applications: When I work as a 3rd or Boom Op for Union gigs, and for Non-Union shoots (mostly goofy shorts with friends where I run audio). I was looking for just a basic headphone monitor and something to send the signal to the mixer, so I was looking at just the basic duplex box http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=832&cat=0&page=1 But then I was also looking at the Remote audio boom cable system, which would be handy if I needed to talk directly with the mixer over long distances or noisy sets. http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?p…

Ok, so I do a fair amount of network live shots and have decided that although I love my COS11's. There are times when I really don't like the omni pattern. Tuesday morning we did a liver with two guests, man and woman. Man is wearing button down shirt-has good voice and projection. Female is wearing lower cut shirt and has little projection-soft spoken needs way more gain. So add to that they are side by side and either one could jump in at any moment so have to leave the pots somewhat open, and the sat truck parked outside has a fantastic low level rumble from the on board genny. Was able to get the fridge off. Live shots tend to be straight into the camera with rarely …

Was working a commercial shoot recently and had a female talent who had a very strong mid-range voice. I had a B3 in her hair (worked great), and boomed her with an AT-4073a. The AT mic has a fairly mid range brightness to it that I've usually found to work out fine in the end mix, except for this specific talent. There were plenty of times I could hear some of her loud areas crunch a bit as if it was peaking, however my meters were well within limits. Since I don't have any onboard EQ control with my ENG mixer, would this be a case of needing an option for another boom mic of a different characteristic? Perhaps this might be a quality issue with my mic pres? I g…

So it sounds like I will be awarded my first gig overseas...to rent or not to rent? That is the question. I've heard customs can be a major pain when traveling with gear. A friend of mine suggested fedex, shipping everything to the hotel, but that kinda makes me nervous. Does anyone know of a decent rental house in Germany? Or should I suck it up and bring my gear with me. Any thoughts or insight would be helpful. Thanks, Andrew

I recently bought my first clapper and used a Dry Erase Marker made by Whiteboard but it doesn't erase all the way. After I try to erase the writing with a cloth there is visual residue of what I wrote. Is there a better maker that I should use. Or a better way to remove the writing. Thanks, Andy

I've tried powering two Lectro 211s from one battery source and it causes them to emit a high pitched whine. The noise is there whether of not the receivers are plugged into the mixer and is not audible in the mixer if plugged in. You can hear it in the air like a television set with a bad flyback transformer. I would like to power all four of my 211 rx and my mixer from a common source but this sound can be picked up by the mics and is really annoying. Any ideas? I'm powering two of the rx with two separate leads from my BDA with caps installed on each lead and there is a faint whine with that setup. I tried tapping in two more and the whine gets …
