Hey Gang, Just wondering if anyone has used this recorder and what your opinion is on it? I also need to know if it will do 24/48k bwf mono files? From what I have read on the website it looks like it does with the new updates. Can you convert the bwf's to mp3's within the recorder? I know you can with the Zoom H4n. I really just need something to grab ambiance, maybe as a back up. I've looked at all other similar recorders, so far I like this one the best. If anyone has heard of anything new coming out, please let me know.

I may buy an old and cheap AD pico mixer to be used as a front end for my DAW, mainly for music recording at my home and would like to get advice of an easy and simple mod for direct outs. I know some of you had them made at the time and would be extremely happy if you could help me with papers or other information. Regards Matti Lehtonen

Hello to all at this forum and Thanks to Jeff for helping me get this set up. Most of my business involves recording orchestra and jazz concerts. However, I wish to expand other avenues of the business. I have a 702 and am looking for a wireless lav. Is there anything under $1,000 that will sound decent and be an alternative to the latest lectrosonics (411)? Or should I pick up an older 195 off Ebay? Thanks in advance! Don

Speaking of replacing some old COS-11's, has anyone ever experience adverse effects from makeup and hair stylists getting hairspray on your lavs? I had a client look at me funny the other day when I asked to cover the mic, and step away from the lense before they sprayed. ' I feel like I need to hand out instructions to people anymore so they don't ruin my gear! Rob

Hey Guys, I have lots of questions these days. Just wondering what you guys use for playback. I have another topic on here about my ipod touch. I'd like to get an app that gives me more control over any music files I have. Should I get a live mixer? I was looking at the Zoom R16 but I think it only has two outputs. But also having the R16 would be a great option if I ever need to record some live music. Already did a project this year that it would have been handy for. Anywho, what are your thought? Justan

Hey all, Just a question about frequencies. Where would I find a database of frequencies for these countries. I am using 2 Block 29's for transmitting to camera, (Still a great block in General so far) and I have a block 25 and Block 21. I have not been to africa in a while and just putting it out there if someone has some recent experience. All the radio's are UM 400's with UCR 411a's. BTW, Just got back from Bahamas and Block 26 was no good. Thanks for all your input in advance. Brian Hanish Rebel Recordings.

Hello JWsound and thanks in advance: Two of my Cooper 104 gain pots, channels 1 & 2, make crackling noise when turned. It's been a while since I used them. I turned them rapidly up and down, since I was once told that moving stuff can dislodge noise-making particles, but they crackle the same. I tried air canning them from outside the mixer while turning them, then I popped off the top panel and air canned around in there. Dust flew out. But I still hear the crackle! I know at this point there must be a way to clean the pot and re-lube it right? It can't be that hard of an operation, I don't want to have to send the mixer out y'know? Of course I'd much …

Over on RAMPS, Larry Fisher is looking into what connectors Lectrosonics will be using in the future. I'm reposting (cross posting?) his original message that started the conversation, as there are a number of folks here, but not following RAMPS, who will be interested in the discussion and decision... " The 4 pin Hirose connector used on some products for power, has pin 1 ground (neg) and pin 4 hot (pos). A few products and cables have 1 and 2 wired together and 3 and 4 wired together for redundancy. We are considering using this connector in the medium future as a locking power connector that is moderately common and seems to be reliable. My question is, …

Howdy, trying to build a breakaway cable that sends both L+R audio from the mixer to the camera, has the return feed from the camera AND carries timecode. I tried using the SC8/NC8 solution from Neutrik and grounding to the shell but I still get bleed of timecode on the return audio. I need more pins! I know lemo would make a killer solution and a costly one. Any good ideas on a push pull or latch lock connector with 9-10 pins? The hirose 10 pin is just a little bulky and cumbersome. Thanks!

besides the obvious choices of velcro, gravity or attitude.... does anyone have a clever mounting solution? I don't own one yet, but am looking at taking the plunge soon. I was able to make a simple quick release mount for my PD-6 taking advantage of the rubber feet on the back and the strap hooks on the front. It took no time to pop it off for safer transportation, or to pop it in a bag for car insert work. p.s. my PD-6 is up for sale at GothamSound.com under the used gear / recorders section.

Hey chaps, first post here, I'm a UK based documentary sound recordist, and I need some advice, I need a small, basic 2 track recorder, purely for plugging into PA desks etc, I would rather have balanced line input, but that doesn't seem to be common. I already have a Sound Devices recorder for use in my bag, so I only need something very basic, no timecode or anything fancy. The other thing I don't need is onboard mics, or pitch change or any of the other things the lower end devices (Tascam TR1, Zoom H4N etc) have. Anybody got any particular recommendations or thoughts?

In my never ending quest for the perfect bag for my rig, i am considering a Koala 2. I need to get a 442(or 552) 744t combo in the bag with a couple(3 or so) of 411 RXs. Anybody else try this bag with that amount of stuff? I have eargonizers but either they are too wide or too narrow. Koala 2 seems to straddle the line. thanks. john.

Hi there I'm trying to find info on two cables for the Nagra VI. The one is the power cable that will go from the Hirose connectors to another device feeding 12v. The second is the Timecode cable. What are the options? There is mention of the open-ended cable but no further info anywhere. Any help on the type of those cables and online places to buy them would be great. Thanks

Ok I've decided on a trailer with the help of Whit N. 8x16 tandem axle. Now I'm thinking... I have a genny to put on it but... how about a battery array? and solar panels? It would be great to have a fridge running, power to a work bench, lights, and ample current to charge the batteries at all times. Have any of you done this? LL

I have a Zaxcom Stereo "Hop" setup for my camera. TRX900AA with a RX900S on Block 25 (and IR antenna). I was working with a fella who owns x2 Lectro UCR195D (older analog, fixed frequency, diversity transmitters) Block 22. And mixing on a Shure FP33. Transmitters were UM195B. We were in the middle of Mississippi. He told me the range and/or sensitivity of his Lectros U195D were halved because of this combination. We spaced them as far apart as possible in his bag. Any distance greater than 70 feet would immediately result in taking hits. Once the zaxcom was removed, No issues... This is the first time since I have owned the Zaxcom (2007), that I've had any issue…

I continue to be amazed what the digital audio revolution has brought us. I'm not saying that this Zoom R-16 will replace my Deva, Cooper etc., but it is pretty incredible. from the Samson - Zoom site: http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=2009 "Zoom has revolutionized digital recording again with the first digital recorder with 16-track playback and 8-track simultaneous recording that utilizes Secure Digital (SD) memory. The new R16 recorder is three production tools in one incredibly versatile device. It's a digital multi-track recorder, an audio interface and a control surface, providing you with all the tools necessary to create studio-qualit…

Anyone here using one one currently, own one, or have used it before? If so quick question. How fast/fly is the recording? Like I own the Zoom h4 and i can record take after take with no problem. Being that the Zoom R-16 is a multitrack recorder how is its recording sequencer setup? Say I need to record 3 takes how easy will it be to start a new session for each take? Any input. Thanks Nicole

Just wanted to share: Here I am on a commercial set with Deva 5.8, with newly installed bright screen. It's film and I have to burn a DVD-RAM. The drive doesn't light up or anything. I know how to use the thing, but the DVD drive couldn't be seen at all. It dawns on me that I didn't bring a laptop and have no way of burning a disc myself. I called Zax and spoke to someone who said he's never heard of that happening, and that I could send it in. I said hey, it seems to not be plugged in, is there a way to check the ribbon cable or whatever? He says yes, I can remove the main frame and access the ribbon cable easily. But it's the start of the day on day 1 of a …

I have a possible job on the horizon requiring MS stereo and am wondering if the Sennheiser 418 stereo shotgun would be a good mic to rent? It fits in my suspensions and rycotes which is a bonus, I'm just wondering about the quality of the S channel capsule, I seem to remember hearing it was a little on the noisy side? I would love to get a Schoeps MK8 capsule or a MKH30 for a MS setup but would need a larger Rycote for those and also have heard that handling noise can be a real problem with a Schoeps MS rig? Jon C
