Hello All, Glad to be apart of this site. I should have been here months ago. LOL. Well I have a question/concern. I do production audio and now I'm starting to get a ton of location sound mixing and recording gigs. I want to setup a sound cart and also would like the ability to use a video monitor on my sound cart with that said I was wanting to know would the transmitter and receiver below work for what I want to do? Also how would I power this if I have no access to outlets. I just need a little explanation/help if possible please. Lastly, I generally work with like the Panasonic HVX or the Sony EX3 type cameras. Just as long as they have a VIDEO OUT i'm goo…

So how do you get an RF signal out of a heavily armor-plated vehicle when shooting free driving shots with only a cameraman and actors inside? These great external antennas from Vark Audio. They worked amazingly well. A really great buy.

Ah the abuse! I'm just gonna rip/tug/pull/stretch this tiny inanimate object off me like the indignant interviewees do on 60 minutes...because I can, and I look important doing it. I've read that certain lavs cannot be refurbished (fixed) given types of enclosures (at the head). Question: can Sankens be saved, and if so is it financially worth it? It's clearly a wiring fault, buzz. Twiddling cable connection at the head remedies problem, but only temporarily. I've got two that I'm loathe to retire, I've rotated in a couple of new ones, but it seems like a waste? Cut my losses? "JWSOUND Knowledge base..Activate!" Thanks, Toby

Coffey Sound was finally able to obtain the elusive Zephyx windscreen and mount from France. I have had the windscreen for a few days now and have tested it as thoroughly as I can. The overall design of the windscreen, as I have mentioned before, utilizes most all of the really fundamental best principles to reduce the effects of wind on the microphone. It looks very much like one of the many designs Don Coufal has worked over the years but was never able to actually manufacture. I have not been able to do the real world working tests I would like to have done (like shooting in the desert a few days ago where I heard reports of incredibly high winds) but have tested w…

Hi guys, I have an HPX170 and am looking for a way to conveniently mount my Lectrosonic 411 or 401 series receiver on the camera. Does anyone know of a hotshoe adapter or other device that would allow me to do this? Thanks! Steve

Here is the situation: One of my 211 receivers block 21 has been exhibiting full RF reading since adding a new zaxcon tx block 24 to my bag with a sta 150 adapter. After trying to figure out the cause I decided to try powering the zaxcom via internal batteries and the problem went away. Any thoughts on what may be causing this? Could the BDS cable be wired incorrectly? Is my 211 receiver faulty and need a tune up? Any thoughts or personal solutions would be appreciated. The problem only occurs with one of my 211 on block 21 the other 2 are fine and exhibit no RF from zaxcom Thanks

Chinhda is working on a bracket to mount the Sound Devices 788 Recorder to a sound cart shelf. He is striving to keep it simple, secure and effective. The ability to mount the recorder either above or below a shelf is common to all configurations. (We have at least one client who has expressed the need to mount two 788 recorders simultaneously) He has devised two latching mechanisms and we would like to know the preferences of users. Both designs can be used on any cart - a Chinhda cart is not required. I'll post a couple of pictures here but the design is best seen on my website. Go to: http://www.productionrecording.com/Tools/AlternateSDbkts.html Review the de…

I don't get a call to use a Comtek set up very often so its not something I really want to invest too much money in. If need be I could rent but that's a hassle. Has anyone used any of the other listening assisted products out there? I did a search and found a reference to a Listen Technologies unit but it was inconclusive. Doing my own research the Listen and Gentner products seem to be the most viable for a lower cost alternative that could be used in the bag. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks, Bernie

My first post! I'm looking for a new mic, I need something for interior dialogue/interview, always seated subject, 1 meter or so proximity, stand mount. My subjects are generally older folks. It might be nice if this theoretical mic would work as part of a future MS stereo rig. In the past I've leaned towards Hypercardioids but I could probably get away with a cardioid, I generally have a reasonably controlled room. I've always been a schoeps man in the past but I'm looking for viable alternatives that won't set me back the price of my annual vacation to south america. The new Senn 8050 or 8040 are interesting but maybe I should consider an MKH50 before they disa…

Hello everybody , I am using as my primary mic on boom 1 CMIT 5U (depending from situation-CMC6/MK41) and always filter off , and from time to time, on a second boom 2 CMC6/MK41. I know that guys from post never complained about matching them , but I was curios , did any one using them in the same situation like to booms maybe used low-cut filter (18 dB/oct. below 80 Hz) to match them, (as it seems to me with that filter on they sound very close), or you live for the post to do that. Also one thing more , as I am working currently one movie on the mountain , and wind can blow very strong, so I am using Rycote windshield WS 4, with HI WIND COVER (some times two) + wind…

Hello all, sorry if this has been discussed before, but I can't find it. I'm doing a job next week and was planning on just using my 788t with the cl-8. The producer has said he has an old schoeps m/s rig so I told him to bring it along to try it out. I don't have an m/s setup myself and have never tried one with the 788t. Just wondering is there an m/s matrix in the 788 and is straight forward to make ms recordings with it. As always input much appreciated. Cheers

Greetings everyone, Please bear with me, since I am not a pro as most of you. I have been asked to work on an observational documentary project next January, and from the phone call, the producers "want" (as if they usually know what they are talking about!) 9 people wired (and on their own ISO tracks) plus 4 booms (still wondering about why 4). They said they will be running 6 cameras and the 9 (highly influential) socialites will be interacting with each other over a period of 5 nights over dinner. Since I do not have that kind of gear to record that many tracks, or the money to buy some, I will have to rent it somehow. My question is, what would you recomme…

I am interested in having some custom rain and dust covers made for my sound and utility cart. Any suggestions as to who does this sort of thing in the Los Angeles area? Thanks.

SD has had their DVDRAM drive available for use with the 7XX recorders for a few years now. I find that it's performance is still well short of 100% reliable, even with using the supplied wallwart PSU (as opposed to bus power from the recorder, which has never worked very well). Is it variations in the media (Maxell 5x for me), dust, flakiness of that psu or what? I learned early on that I couldn't use that drive in a bag (no movement while recording, and operation with the drive horizontal only) and that trying to use it on bus power alone was dicey, but I'm still having occasional formatting difficulties and the drive going offline during record. Is anyone else usin…

I had never heard of this unit before. It has a lot going for it and could be useful as a standalone hardware recorder when up to 24 tracks are needed. It comes in various models withe options being primarily the type of I/O supplied (balances analog, ADAT, AES, etc.). It is DC powered (9 to 15 volts DC), single rack mount, word clock I/O, timecode support (timestamps BWF files), etc. read about it here: http://www.joeco.co.uk/main/BBR1_Summary.php Regards, Jeff Wexler

Got a gig working with a single RED ONE coming up. The video village they are using is a really nice high end monitor for their DP. I've got a couple of 7" iKan monitors, with video composite, component, and RGB in but not SD/HD-SDI in. Does the RED ONE have a down converter on it, or is it strictly HD-SDI out. Thinking of perhaps maybe getting an Aja HD-SDI to analog box, or maybe just go up to a Marchall monitor. Anyone have any cheap suggestions for getting a HD-SDI sig to a monitor I can look at? Thanks. -Richard

Sorry for the cross-post, but I'm trying to find some info... Anyone familiar with the MM-4210 mixer? I'm considering picking up one either as an extra for me, or for a friend who might need a mixer. John Moore

As my IDX NiMH np1's are slowly dying on me and seeing that they are becoming unavailable I find myself looking for a new solution to power my bag rig. (442, lectros, 788t..etc) Would love to hear how you guys are powering your bags these days. I would think the most popular solution is an IDX lithium np1, so I'd be interested to hear alternatives to that. Of course the 3 main things im concerned with are price/weight/performance. Thanks!

OK, so I've been looking at Lectrosonics, and trying to decide what band works best for me. I live in between DC and Baltimore, and find work in and around both places. I've looked at the frequency chart, and also used Sennheiser's chart to see what's open and what's in use. My question isn't which band to choose, but when I choose a band, can I use frequencies that are occupied in one city, that are listed as open in another city? Provided that it's the same state I mean; for example, a set of frequencies that are listed as being used by local DC TV stations should be free and open in Baltimore, and likewise. Is that sound reasoning?

I have a job in coming up in the new year that'll see a small crew on the road for a few weeks. Part of the trip is going through the middle east. After the issues we had with the airlines and authority's on the last trip, we have been thinking of using the services of a freight company to take all of our gear from London to Jordan and transport it ourselves once we get there. As it's our first time using the freight option, I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good company operating out of the UK and what peoples experience may have been when dealing with freight companies in the past. We just want to be able to show up at the airport with our hand luggage…
