Sorry for the cross-post (if you're a DVXUser reader)... I'm looking for the break-away connector used in a Beta snake- I need to build a better mixer to camera cable than my current one (2 x XLR & 1 x 1/8" mini on each end)... It's a pain to disconnect the camera or mixer for each shot move. I suppose I could just use a 7-pin XLR pair, but that would mean sharing the ground with all 3 connectors, and I don't think that's the best idea. Oh, yeah- I'm hoping to find something that won't induce an apoplectic fit while trying to solder! John Moore sound.flyingmonkeystudio.com

I recently got a nice tip if you're interested in using rechargable 9 Volts in your TSC slate. I heard you could put a 9 volt in the slot where the battery slug goes and make a piece of wood cut to length to hold the pressure when you slide the door closed. When I tried it, we found the Ipower batteries to be slightly to big, and could easily get stuck. Our FX guy saw us messing about with it and suggested making the wooden spacer with 9 Volt clips glued to both ends. In fact, he made it for us. Now we put the 9 volt on a clip at one end of the spacer, and the clip at the other end makes contact with the slate. The battery is right there when you open the sliding doo…

I notice quite a few of the upper echelon feature mixers using the Yamaha 01V96 digital mixer. I'm sure it's a good board but I'm curious about the powering requirements and what guys are using as an inverter to maintain quality AC voltage and the nature of the DC power supply. On my cart I have two 33 amp hour truck batteries, but other than two overhead desk lamps, nothing that isn't DC. Mick

I have a job next week where they want a transcription never done one before first they wanted a mono cassestte which I quickly talked them out since I own a 702T I have a few questions: 1. Should I record a mono or stereo MP3? 2. Should I record a mono file and feed timecode to the other audio channel or should I just record the timecode via the lemo timecode in from the Sony F900? I have all the cables to do this. It seems straight forward I just want to make sure I do it right!

I would like to power a Lectrosonics R1A receiver from a Panasonic HDX900 camera using a old style MBATELIM battery eliminator. The R1A is modified for the battery eliminator. A friend had an issue with a using similar with a Panavision Genesis. From that experience "The R1a audio output ground and power supply ground are common, since when the unit operates on a battery there is no power to ground connection. If an external supply is connected and the audio output is connected to a device with the same power ground, things gets shorted." This hasn't been an issue with a SONY camera but has anybody done the same with the Panasonic HDX900? Thanks, Stephen

Editor I am working with wants to take his 8 AES outputs (4 XLRs) on his editing system and plug them into his 8 analog inputs on a mixer. Wants a simple stand alone box which does not require firewire control. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone! I have read a lot of praise around the Rode NTG3 as a potential half of the price competitor for the mkh 416. A lot of reviews but no feedback at all of someone whos has really used it in the field (searched here, at gearslutz...). Pionneers, step in, please!

Used model hd1400 for playback on a homemakover where talent views what previous homeowners say about their home changes. What I found bizaare about the deck is that the audio inputs in are xlrm and monitor and ch1+2 out are xlrf. Curious why that is. This is opposite any other gear I've used or come across. I had to use xlrm->xlrm turnarounds.

I operate out of a bag 90% of the time and seldom have issues with range with my Lectro 411's For when I am cart based however and further from the set I would like a cost effective way to get better range. Question: Can I get away with using one Directional or Dipole antenna? Which would give beter results for indoor/outdoor use? If I use an RF splitter to distribute that antenna to 3 or 4 Lectro 411's, how do I make up for lost gain? Any comments from those experienced would be most welcome and I am also emailing this to Lectrosonics to see what they recommend. Thanks, Jon Chiles

Hey guys, i've tried a search for this but i can't find a specific answer. i'm looking for something small that i can use in my bag when i'm out and about and would like to pick up the odd spot effect or ambience. ideally it would take a line in signal from my 442 and be small enough not to notice in my mixer bag but be of a useful enough quality to be usable. (i would be using schoeps CMIT or mk41 or rode stereo nt5) i read that the microtrack has a too short and unreplacable battery. the other options appear to be the R-09, the zoom h2 or h4, or a few korg options. anyone got any favourites that they think might suit my needs. appreciate any input. cheers, h…

Hi, Recently saw a guy in another forum selling his sd 442 saying that reason he was doing this is that he was affraid that it could be considered outdated in little time. The reason: no digital outputs. What do you think about it? How many portable mixers wtih digital outputs are available in the market? I know that sonosax anounced and A/D converter ans an option for the sx42, but that's all...

On a job where a client has his own Bose headphones, model QC2. It has two settings (low high), on low it will not "turn on" the Comtek RX, on high it works but the level is low even with the RX turned up all the way. I know that the Comtek turns on by sensing the impedance of the headphones, and in the "low" mode the Bose impedance read as zero and in "high" it read 75 ohms. His headphones worked fine on his iPod in both modes. Any idea how I can get them to work w/ my PR72s? Philip Perkins

I'm new to this site and just picked up on the a problem with the SD 788 close to radiomic's. I'm about to remount my 788 on the cart sitting just below my multicoupler but believe the 788 might cause interference. Any new ideas of problems with this?

Awhile back. I recall some conversations about Ambient making a radio link for transmitting TC. Was that just vapor? Is it a real product? It sounded like a good idea, and fairly cheap if i remember. thanks, john

Okay... Now that feeds to HD cameras have become a very common subject and a concern for many of us, I thought I'd start a new thread to "update" the topic. Here is my personal issue. I have 411 receivers. If you set the "test" tone at 00 (0dBu) on the receiver, it's output level is -20dBFS. When I am sending a feed to camera, I like to set the UM400 transmitter so that my -20dBFS tone shows up as -20dBu on the receiver scale. That way I will never engage the limiters on the UM400, which I think suck, even if I do hit the limiters on my recorder. Problem now is that the transmitter is outputting my tone at -40dBFS into the camera. SO even though I like to reco…

Hey Gang, I have a question for you. I have a 442 mixer. I'd like to be able to use all four tracks on the RED. Can I get a cable made that would use my 10pin out into the RED using all four tracks? Is it possible or is there a better way?

Hi all, Have a Red shoot next week and I'm working with another sound colleague as a team. I am providing a Lockit (CL203) and a TS-3 slate. He's bringing a 744t. He had Gotham create a custom cable that has a lemo on both ends, along with xlr in/out. I have the SD lemo cable that has BNC i/o as well. So far I have been unsuccessful in jamming the lockit from the 744t, using the lemo cable he had Gotham construct. The 744t sees the incoming TC from the Lockit and can jam to it no prob, but the Lockit is not seeing TC in from the 744t, it just keeps blinking red once a second (meaning no TC present). Both devices are set for 23.976. Some observations: I can ja…
