Hello, Does anyone know where to find a sliding rack shelf that will fit inside a shallow (10" depth) rack case (i.e. SKB "X" case) ? Thank you! Lee Ascher Los Angeles, CA

Hi all, I'm looking for two 1U sliding (and hopefully locking) rack shelves that will fit a standard SKB case (front to rear rails = 15.75"). I have read here that there are no "off the shelf" products available for these cases, but have seen many photos here of some of your carts that seem to feature these shelves -- so hoping someone here can point me in the right direction to a product or a jerry-rig solution. Thanks much! nvt

I just wanted to chime in to say that I just picked up a couple Neopax ankle and waist bands and the COS-11 vampire clips. Both products are great. The vampire clip holds my Sankens very firmly, but they also release the mic with enough tension. The Neopax work very well, much better than anything else I have ever tried. I would like to make a velcro "cover" to protect the top of the Tx from sweat and other contaminants. -Jason

I wasn't able to find info via searching and I am hoping some manufacturers could answer( or anyone else for that matter). Why don't location recorders( cantar, deva, 788, etc) pass audio via FireWire to a computer? I mean this in terms of recording and sending audio on fw at same time

Hi guys, This is my first post here so if I'm covering something that's been covered in the past the I apologise in advance for wasting time. I was hoping to hear from anyone who has used the Blackbox Video Foldback/Comms sets http://www.blackboxvideo.co.uk/ and to see what their thoughts were on them. I'm rarely in a position where I need to send head set feeds to people but when I do I just rent something like the Sennheiser IEM. They do the trick for small jobs but I was thinking about getting a system from Blackbox because they look like a stronger build and are an affordable option for the times when I'd need to roll them out (camera hop or feeds for script sup…

If these batteries are widely used then I'm sorry for being out of the loop and rehashing some old information. For anyone using the FR2-LE and still using AA batteries you may be interested in these http://is.gd/OjGT I use the 4500 rocket pack to power the recorder and I get days of use out of one of these packs. The recorder can be left on all day and I average between 2 and a half and 3 days on a single charge. I've only used the phantom power option on the recorder once when I had a defective cable for my mixer but it still didn't draw too much life from the battery. I keep 2 of these packs in my kit and I know that I'm going to be safe for the week on a shoot.…

I just purchased a 788t and am using it on this job and have been experiencing some major timecode issues. First off, I noticed some major drift after the unit being powered off and back on when in 24h run. The Sony battery and an external np were connected. Then I switched to regular free run but had the same issue. Then I tried rejamming to find that the slate was jamming either a couple seconds to a couple minutes after the tc on the display. Running at 23.976nd 24bit 48k. Pretty standard. Checked all settings on the slate and recorder multiple times and tried 2 different tc cables. I tried switching the framerate to 24, then back to 23.976. The slate would ja…

Hi Guys , Just awaiting the delivery of my fusion . How well does the note writing and storing work in the real world and is it ok as a log? I see you can only write up to 16 characters but there are several "note boxes" . Also is this all stored in the metadata section of the BWF? . Has anyone seen what it looks like like when opened on the avid or protools . I am wondering if i could use it instead of a more comprehensive log program i currently use . Many thanks Tony

Vin posted this antenna system he found from the French company, DCaudiovisuel. I am hoping someone who really understands RF and antenna technology can shed some more light on this type of system. No mention of what it costs (other than it rents for 46 euros a day. dcaudiovisuel.com Regards, Jeff Wexler

I have been doing a lot of interviews lately, and would always prefer to use the boom. However, most of the rooms are pretty small spaces and have a lot of weird reflections. I find that the camera guys I work with don't want to see the lavs. In the worst situations, the lavs are not sounding good (talent is wearing polyester with lots of chest hair) and the room is very reflective. As I have pondered this, I have often thought about some sort of portable sound-proofing to help with the room to deaden it a bit. I was wondering how, if ever, the folks in this group deal with this. I've met guys who never treat any room with anything and just go with the acoustics…

I came across this at a hardware store the other day and bought it to hang from my mixer bag. It makes a good headphone or cable hook for the on-the-go sound mixer. It swings very neatly to the side to get out of the way. Bigg Lugg 1 http://www.amazon.com/Bigg-Lugg-Power-Tool-Holder/dp/B0000224SD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1242777208&sr=1-1

Hey Everyone, A friend of mine recently asked me this question: "So, on sketch comedy shows like the Mr. Show they will sometimes record the laugh tracks while the audience is watching the sketch on a screen. I guess they also did that for the exterior scenes on Fawlty Towers. So I was wondering how they managed to get the audience reaction without picking up the sound of the sketch playing in the background?" It got me thinking, and now I wonder how it is done. Anyone know? I assume they have a pretty quiet studio room for the audience to reduce reflections and use shotgun mics pointed at the audience. I still don't know that this would totally work. They …

On my current show the producers want a wireless ear wig for the talent. Does any company make a self contained system that using a walkie talkie. I know I could use a Comtek and induction loop but I would prefer to just give the producer a walkie talkie and not be involved in it.

Hey All, I was using a UM400 in 200 mode with a Lectro 201 receiver and was getting distortion. I have not heard this with my other 201 system. All I can imagine is that there is something odd about the UM200 emulation on the 400 transmitter. It wasn't that it was getting limiter distortion, sounding squashed. It actually was breaking up and sounding like overload distortion. The receiver was showing the level just barely hitting full-scale, which should be okay according to Lectro literature. The 201 system was showing the same levels, and doing just fine. A few possible issues that may have caused it: 1. I had a Sanken COS-11 on a female in the rubber moun…

This fishing lure attached to a hollow switchcraft ta type connector, helps get the end of the mic line down through the bottom of a pant leg. For ankle mounted transmitters. I guess it would work for a dress also. KKS

I am currently shooting a travel series in Munich, Germany, using the Filmtech LSP4 mixer and have lost the use of my RIGHT channel. I am very new to the location audio world and am not sure as to why this has happened or how I could go about trying to fix it. I was hoping someone may be able to offer some advice or insight to my problem? Another temporary solution I am looking into is renting gear while i'm here but I do not know of any places in Munich that would offer that. Again if anyone could offer a contact or even a name of somewhere that I could go/call, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

For those of you who do not take a look at r.a.m.p.s., here is another amazing account of Billy Sarokin's use of the recording wireless. quoted from Billy Sarokin: "The other day was unusual, even for the kind of work I do. I ended up using the Zaxcom recording radios in 3 different ways for 3 different reasons. We were at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. It was New York's original airport that became a military air base in the 1930's and played a crucial role in World War 2. It was abandoned in the early 60's and is now part of Gateway National Park. We were using a section of one of the taxi-ways to create a cold war border crossing. The entire set pro…

I am looking to rent 2 Sanken CUB 01s for a shoot Tuesday and Wednesday in NJ. I have tried Gotham, Pro Sound Services, and Lentini, and they either are out on a long term rental or don't have them. The CUB 01 are my first choice because we are shooting a continuation of scenes that we shot in December in the same locations. The new footage will be cut together with the older footage and I want to maintain a continuity of gear. Does anyone have any ideas for other rental houses in NY? One place recommended I call Coffey Sound in LA and see if they will ship them out (if they have them). Thanks. Marc

I am planning to try a DIY "real mic inputs box" for the Sony PCM-D50, which has the standard Sony "Plugin power" Mic input (3.5mm). I found this document http://www.jensen-transformers.com/as/as037.pdf Need some guidance for building a unit. If this works out well, i wont need to buy the SONY XLR input module for 500$. Heh.... (of course there are workarounds, but I thought, why not try something out?) warm regards -vin (killing some time until picture edit completes their work)

What is the brand name of those little plastic boxes handy for storing lav accessories? I'm thinking of the type that folds in half and that has little compartments. Thank you. A.
