On my current show the producers want a wireless ear wig for the talent. Does any company make a self contained system that using a walkie talkie. I know I could use a Comtek and induction loop but I would prefer to just give the producer a walkie talkie and not be involved in it.

Hey All, I was using a UM400 in 200 mode with a Lectro 201 receiver and was getting distortion. I have not heard this with my other 201 system. All I can imagine is that there is something odd about the UM200 emulation on the 400 transmitter. It wasn't that it was getting limiter distortion, sounding squashed. It actually was breaking up and sounding like overload distortion. The receiver was showing the level just barely hitting full-scale, which should be okay according to Lectro literature. The 201 system was showing the same levels, and doing just fine. A few possible issues that may have caused it: 1. I had a Sanken COS-11 on a female in the rubber moun…

This fishing lure attached to a hollow switchcraft ta type connector, helps get the end of the mic line down through the bottom of a pant leg. For ankle mounted transmitters. I guess it would work for a dress also. KKS

I am currently shooting a travel series in Munich, Germany, using the Filmtech LSP4 mixer and have lost the use of my RIGHT channel. I am very new to the location audio world and am not sure as to why this has happened or how I could go about trying to fix it. I was hoping someone may be able to offer some advice or insight to my problem? Another temporary solution I am looking into is renting gear while i'm here but I do not know of any places in Munich that would offer that. Again if anyone could offer a contact or even a name of somewhere that I could go/call, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

For those of you who do not take a look at r.a.m.p.s., here is another amazing account of Billy Sarokin's use of the recording wireless. quoted from Billy Sarokin: "The other day was unusual, even for the kind of work I do. I ended up using the Zaxcom recording radios in 3 different ways for 3 different reasons. We were at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn. It was New York's original airport that became a military air base in the 1930's and played a crucial role in World War 2. It was abandoned in the early 60's and is now part of Gateway National Park. We were using a section of one of the taxi-ways to create a cold war border crossing. The entire set pro…

I am looking to rent 2 Sanken CUB 01s for a shoot Tuesday and Wednesday in NJ. I have tried Gotham, Pro Sound Services, and Lentini, and they either are out on a long term rental or don't have them. The CUB 01 are my first choice because we are shooting a continuation of scenes that we shot in December in the same locations. The new footage will be cut together with the older footage and I want to maintain a continuity of gear. Does anyone have any ideas for other rental houses in NY? One place recommended I call Coffey Sound in LA and see if they will ship them out (if they have them). Thanks. Marc

I am planning to try a DIY "real mic inputs box" for the Sony PCM-D50, which has the standard Sony "Plugin power" Mic input (3.5mm). I found this document http://www.jensen-transformers.com/as/as037.pdf Need some guidance for building a unit. If this works out well, i wont need to buy the SONY XLR input module for 500$. Heh.... (of course there are workarounds, but I thought, why not try something out?) warm regards -vin (killing some time until picture edit completes their work)

Hey, I'm looking to sell my 4x 411 systems (block 28/29) and I'm considering switching over to 2x Lectro SR receivers in their place. (less weight, save some coin..etc) I was curious if anyone here is using these in a bag setup on a regular basis and how they are working for you. Are they as touchy with "in the bag" transmitters to the point where they affect your work? Do you feel hindered at all using these as traditional style receivers in the real world? More +'s? -'s? I've done the reading from the manufacturers site (so please no Call Lectrosonics!) Appreciate the help guys -Chris (oh if anyone is interested in 411's in block 28/29 feel fre…

For some reason (at least how I have it set) the 442 seems to be a lot more prone to handling noise especially with my Kmr81i that I've been favoring on a lot of the doc shoots lately. The roll off is not making as much difference no matter where on the dial it is from (80 to 240)... I tried all the combos on the mic and with gain lower higher etc. etc. I'm an okay boom handler but would like a little more love from the mixer. Are there any menu settings that I'm missing? Doesn't look like it. http://www.sounddevices.com/download/guides/442-setups.pdf Any advice? Thanks a lot, EBaume

The Nagra software has been updated at least three times since its introduction to our market six months ago. One of the welcome additions is the ability to mirror-record to an outboard DVD drive. I've posted an overview of the newly developed capabilities that may be seen here: http://www.productionrecording.com/Tools/Nagra6VIMonthsLater.html Since this is an explanation of new features and positive developments, it's naturally more an informative post than a critical review. This isn't exactly an "equipment" question, but seems to be important. How do you label your DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs? Do you use a Sharpie and write on the disc, or do you only use discs with the white surface for printing? There isn't a DVD-RAM disc with the white printing surface, so I'm wondering if it is safe to write on it with a standard sharpie. I'd heard that CD-R's don't like this and that the ink will eat through the disc eventually. Maybe it is all a myth, but thought I'd throw it out there. Would using sticky labels on DVD-RAMs be a bad idea? Thanks, Matt Hamilton

Greetings, Check out the little mount I came up with for the Mini-Keyboard I use with the 788t/CL8. It's just Velcro to the back of the CL8 and is very fast to type with. I use a Blackberry so typing on this keyboard is easy for me. I've assigned the function keys to open Scene/Take, Track Names and Folder options. The last so I can change Roll folders when I'm doing ENG stuff.. Mark L

I'm interested to know which blocks people have found to be the cleanest for use in New York City. I currently have two 411a receivers with SMD transmitters one on block 28, the other on 25. Ive been using a rented unit on block 22 on my current job and I find there are many more cleaner frequencies on this block than 25 & 28. Im considering selling one or both of my units and getting two on the same block or adjacent blocks. Or perhaps getting my current units converted through lectrosonics. I would like to be able to use one dipole for both receivers but right now my blocks are too far apart. With all the changes happening in the RF spectrum currently I'm not …

hey Matthias, i saw in the thread about billys cart that you are expecting one of these imminently http://www.areitec.fr/AREITEC/Pico48/pico48_ENG.html please let us (me) know how well it works and how you get on with it. i just ordered a trx700 for a sitcom im booming on but had to send it back after i felt it was too noisy, i have another one on its way, hoping it was a faulty unit. but in case it doesnt work out with the trx700, then the pico48 looks a very worthy plan B. and if anyone else has used the pico48 with a zaxcom trx transmitter, or has any comments on the trx700 tx let me know thanks rich

Ok... So I was brushing up on the Deva today (sitting in for a friend on the weekend), and noticed one thing that I think is absolutely ridiculous. When you enter the menu that includes the TC frame rate, all you have to do is graze the button and the TC changes. It seems really silly that it does not bring up a menu, like the sample rate, giving you a choice of selections. I was just casually looking through menus and such, and this jumped out at me as being a really easy thing to accidentally change if you are in a hurry looking for something, especially if you are working out of the bag. And I know it the display shows the frame rate on the main screen, but still…

I just got myself a used PD-6/EX12 combo with internal hard drives in both unit. Got a pretty good deal on it so I couldn't resist. I will be using it along with my Boom recorder/Macbook Pro Setup. I've been going through it getting familiarized with it. It seems like a very straightforward machine and I think I will get along with it just fine. Current and former PD-6 users, can you give me some tips/tricks, and advice on things to look out for? Should I use the PD-6 as the main recorder, or the backup recorder with Boom Recorder? Also, where is a good source for the 8cm DVD-RAM Discs? They seem hard to find.
