Does anyone know of a system of recharge-able director and co headsets, a la the rack for walkies? Something you can plug in, load up and hand out as needed.

Hi Sad news - I was using my new Sony PCM-D50 recording some traffic on the road, and a piece of gravel flew on to it (propelled by a rolling tire) and has defaced the front panel of the recorder. Merde! The LCD display and the buttons are intact, but there are some bad scratches on the panel, made of aluminum... I feel so bad about this, it's been with me for just ten days... Any ideas how one can get a new face panel for this machine from Sony? -vin

Hey all, new to this blog so I hope you can help me Looking at wireless boom options and I find myself not very happy with the quality that Lectrosonics is giving me. As a boom Op I have used the first generation butt plug. It was a wonderful piece of gear (when it was not plagued by RF) and other issues. I was wondering if anyone hear is using it as there main transmitter (trx700) for the boom? If so can you give me a description of your success or failures with it Has anyone used the TRX700's expander and Compressor settings? Sound quality? SD card? Thanks in advance. Brian Hanish

The Solice looks like my next mixer except for one thing, I need a couple digital outs!!! Why on earth would PSC not put in, or offer as a mod, some digital outputs?! I mean this is the age of digital fr'crying out loud, all-analog board mixers are so 2007! I know this has been discussed before but perhaps there's an updated product or something: anyone know of a good DC-powered 24-bit A/D converter? If so, I could take the Solice's 8 direct outs for all the iso tracks, then use a bus or two and convert them to digital and be able to rock 10 tracks on the Deva. Otherwise I'm stuck to 8 tracks and that's kind of a deal breaker, forcing me to either save up for the S…

Has anyone used a Presonus Blue Tube as part of a dialogue recording setup? A friend mentioned it makes a vocalist (i.e. singer) sound warmer but I wonder how it would color dialogue. Would it give a desirable result or would it be too much. Just wonderin' Jeff

I boght 2 of the Neo Packs ankle straps and used them for the first time today. They ROCK!!! The actors loved them, they were easy to put on, and super secure. We have our actors running and fighting a lot, and I have every confidence that the transmitters won't be falling off. I think these are a must have!!!! Scott

There is a good article in Film & Video that features an interview with Paul Ledford who discusses his use of helical antennas. intro from Film & Video: "Technological advances in filmmaking don't always manifest themselves in the electronics behind the camera lens or the expanding digital powers harnessed in the post facility. Big advantages can be gained by keeping an eye on new developments in every segment of production and post. For example, before he started working on 12 Rounds, the new action picture produced by WWE Films, directed by Renny Harlin, and starring WWE wrestling star John Cena, production sound mixer Paul Ledford researched an unfamiliar…

does anyone use this RF amplifier? I would like to push my Sennheiser SR 300 G2 to more output power. At the moment I can`t use it in stereo-mode as that cuts the working distance too much. Mono is fine but I would like to have two signals on one frequency. My main concern is wether that powered output will bleed into my Zaxcom receivers that are on the cart too. Anyone with experience? Maybe Ron? (btw how much is it?) http://www.professionalsound.com/specs/linear.htm Cheers, Matthias

Anyone every work with a quiet lens motor? We do countless normal shots with hand in's close to the lens, and the focus racking of the lens motors are just too loud. Drives me crazy!! We are using Preston Motors, these are the only ones I have ever worked with, but have to figure there are others out there, AND quieter. Any one work with a quiet one?

As many of you know I am not a big Fostex fan so it is no surprise to me that I had not even heard of this mixer/recorder from Fostex. I first saw it featured in the current Coffey Sound magazine. Is there anyone here who knows more about this item and why it does not seem to have been mentioned or talked about at all in our world. Just curious. Regards, Jeff Wexler

I am posting comments made by Don Coufal on the new site he has put up Moving Microphones regarding his testing of the new Zaxcom 992 boom box: "I have done further testing with the TRX 992 and continue to be impressed with it's superior sound quality for both the transmitted audio as well as it's transmitted IFB return. My conclusion is that a hard line cable probably still has the advantage in over all frequency response and reliability. First- frequency response. 1. Zaxcom has achieved near perfection when it comes to the audio signal transmitted from the microphone. Discerning ears will be able to tell slight differences but the overall effect is most desirabl…

A while ago I had a director want to use standard earbud headphones with his comtek. The catch was, he wanted to cut off one of the earbuds for single ear use. I had a few throw away pairs of earbuds, so we gave it a shot. We tried 2 pairs, cutting the left ear off one, and the right ear off the other. Neither worked at all. Is there a way to make this work with the 216 receivers? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. Scott

Anyone notice this? The Senn G2's just don't seam to work in schools? I'm working on a doc ENG at the moment, and I noticed this about 2 months ago. The Senn G2 trans/recv set ups are nice for my ENG kit because they are small, but for some reason.. They just don't get along with school buildings. Take them into some classrooms, and they quickly get overloaded with RF interference, and then start dropping out like crazy. Once I notice this, I have to run out to my truck and get the lectros. I've tried to change freq's, banks, channels, to no avail. Is it the Rebar in the building? Perhaps the labs computers? A certain way schools are built? Or certain classr…

I'm curious about how the newish Sennheiser MKH-8040 and MKH-8050 stack up to their older standard issues (MKH-40-50-60-70-416) in terms of being near-invulnerable to RFI noise such as that regularly experienced from video transmitters like Modulous and Canatrans, neon lights, walkies etc. Can anyone here with experience comment? Glen, I read a piece about you and using these microphones on the "Hanna Montana" movie -- perhaps you have some insight? Thanks to all, much appreciated!

I just became aware of this announced product from Zaxcom ... I don't know why it hasn't made it into our community yet as it seems to be a real game changer, particularly for those working with 4 channel video cameras. I am posting the press release here so that we can think about what this new receiver is all about. I know everyone has been talking about the Lectrosonics 4 ch. receiver (and Octopak ... I like that name) but it looks like this new Zaxcom receiver does a whole lot of things in one box. QRX100 Four-Channel Camera RF Audio System At the 2009 NAB Show, Zaxcom will demonstrate a new technology concept, the QRX100 four-channel RF audio receiver. To take…

I've been told by a microphone distributor here in Australia that unplugging 48v phantom powered microphones before switching the phantom supply off; can cause damage to the microphone. Whilst it would obviously be ideal to shut off the ph/power switch every time, in practice - it can be tough to get to the power switch in time, and boomers will 'accidentally' how-swap their cable. how much damage will this do? do you shut down a channel (turn off it's ph power) before unplugging? or just "fader-down"? any solutions that people have found? (external switches/boxes etc) Ian I'm not concerned with the audible "thump" when a mic is hot-plugged (that's unavo…

Does anybody have experience with changing the frequencies on these units when in "hostile" RF environments? I am looking for the methods that are quick and efficient for finding a clean signal. It seems like you need at least to people to do this. Any short cuts? Thanks in advance, KKS.
