Hello group! I´m building my first cart (I´ll post some pictures next week, when I get the base done...), I have an upright Magliner frame with the 10 inch pneumatic wheels, two Gator rack- cases (8U and 12U) and two 4 inch castor wheels for the front of the base. The upper rack will hold the antenna distribution, receivers, recorder, mixer, power distribution, patch bay (in the backside) and some storage space (hopefully...) The lower case will hold the battery (or batteries) and more storage space. I´m trying to fit everything so that, if necesarry, I´ll have space in the upper Gator- case so much that I can fit one 33ah battery in there and operate everyth…

I'm trying to put together my rig slowly purchasing pieces of gear here and there. I do occasional indie features. I have been renting most of the stuff from a fellow sound mixer, but it's time to get my own gear. I need boom mics, one for exterior and one for interior. The only mics I've used and am familiar with are the Sanken CS3e, MKH60, MKH50, ME66/K6, and Rode NTG-2. The last 2 are out of the question.....garbage. So with my budget, which 2 mics would be good all around for some indie features? I'm also interested in hearing opinions on the new MKH8000 series as an interior mic. The price seems reasonable.

I am currently using version 3.43 and have had no problems with it. I can do variable folders playback DVD's and anything else I need. The series I work on is doing an 18 day shoot. Normally we do 8 days per episode so my folder #'s have been no problem up till now. Is there a software version that will let me do more than four digits for folder names? Our post department has had me change from fat 32 to UDF because of supposed drop out issues. Has anybody else experienced this. I can not playback from the internal DVD drive in UDF and has been a bit of a pain.

Wanted to check in the wider world if anyone is experiencing this issue with their Zaxcom Stereoline transmitter. Occassionally when I power up the unit fails to power up - no little flashing LED - no signal transmitted. Turn the power off and on again (Hawkswoods adapter) and up it comes. I have spoken to friends and they report experiencing the same Any comments - Fixes? Thanks Chris B

I have two Sennheiser 300 series IEM transmitters and 6 receivers. I intend to use one transitter for director/scripty/video village and the second as foldback for the Boom op, each transmitter being fed different foldback mixes from the Cantar. Both are in the same band – 786-822 MHz. Of course, I will have to set the working frequency on one transmitter different from the second one, say the first one at 786 and the second one at 822. Do you think it is possible to use one single dipole antenna (the lectro SNA) to feed both transmitters, and if so will I need a passive splitter or something else?

I recently had the opportunity to look over the new Nagra VI. It's a six-channel hard drive recorder with four mike preamps and a Compact Flash slot. I find it a nice bridge between the small recorders (Sound Devices, Sonosax) and the larger, generally more expensive, machines like the Deva and Cantar. It is possible to get two hands on the controls and accomplish considerable work directly on the recorder without resorting to a companion mixer. But the capabilities are a bit less than what's available on some of the more expensive recorders. Still, a good addition to the mix or recorders presently available. Nagra quality, six tracks, well equipped at well under $8000. …

http://www.audio.co.uk/B6.htm <<The AD149 now has the option of AES digital outputs on both the main outputs and channel direct outputs. They are bought out on a 15 way D plug, therefore interconnection to the recorder is via a single cable. The main output is also bought out on a 3 pin XLR. The analogue outputs are retained and can be used simultaneously. The digital output can be retro fit by us to both the AD146 & AD149. 8 input or larger frames. The digital option can also be added to existing mixer. Please contact the factory for further details.>>

I was thinking of getting my equipment laser etched or engraved for identification / security purposes. Anyone have any experience doing this ? My main concern is with the depth at which they engrave and the temperature the equipment may be exposed to during the process. Specificaly my SM and MM series wireless transmitters. Anyone know of a safe depth to engrave those, and will the temperature created by the process damage the equipment ? I was thinking of doing the etching or engraving above the part of the transmitter that surrounds the battery, in order to minimize the chance of heat damaging the delicate electronics. Thanks.

I've been using QuickerTek WiFi stuff for a few years now... This is a great addition to their product line. Made in USA. "External Battery for 15-inch MacBook Pro: QuickerTek's MacBook Pro External Battery powers and charges the internal battery while in use. You get 12 to 16 total hours of battery life - that's 6 to 10 extra hours of battery power."

Hi everyone! I just got a Zaxcom TRX 900 Stereo set for a test and was wondering, in a bag setup, where do you keep the transmitter with the STA 100 adapter? I´d like to use it as a camera hop, but I can´t figure out a good place in my bag to rig the transmitter. My Camrade bag consists of a SD 442, 2-3 Lectro 511´s and an Ambient NP1-Frontloader. Not very much room for anything else. The STA 100 has the cabling coming out of the backside and I find it a bit difficult to place the tx somewhere safe, so I could keep an eye on it and I also wouldn´t break it... Anyone have any homemade cases/pouches for it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Regards, Kl…

I wanted to use one of the aux busses of my Cooper mixer for a playback-mix but noticed that the dialogue came through the speakers too as it was on the other aux for Comtek-monitoring. Is that normal behaviour that much of a crosstalk? I used the direct out instead and it was clean. It just takes away the possibility to have more than one source on the playback-speakers (thats what I would need today ...) Cheers, Matthias

Im looking to put a small sine wave inverter on my cart. 125-200 watt'ish strictly to power a 01v96. I've found small "non" sine wave's without a fan but no luck finding what I need. Anyone? Thanks!

Belden? Canare? Something that is really good for our kind of use, in physical terms as well as RFI?EMI rejection and picking up buzz from power cables... I am talking about single mic cables for a boom mic to be used on location and on a stage, not multicore. best -vin

Going to be using a bunch of 3041/sk50 (wexler reality package) radios pretty soon and I'm told they're all in the "yellow" frequency range. Can someone tell me what range this is in MHz so I can start coordinating. Thanks. I've never used the higher end sennheiser radio mics before... any tips/tricks I can employ or pitfalls to avoid with them? cheers, -d

I am trying to decide which system to go with and sure like the price of the S300, but want to be sure it will cover all my bases for a start up kit. Would like to stay on the cheap but would like some feedback on these or other windscreens.

Hi everybody . I have seen this unit on internet by chance and I'm very surprised . It's a 8 channel digital mixer with 8 analog outs and also has AES , Firewire ready ! When i investigate the board for a while , found that it's like a dream for location sound use . The board is DC powered . It has sackful of outs , very small sizes , on board slate mic ! , TC in/out , video input ( i really don't know what is it for ) and good sounding preamps , as i read . So , is there anyone has some experience or information about it ? I think Qolle izm125 can't be a rival to Yamaha O1v96 , but has some advantages like slate mic or firewire and AES outs already on unit . I'm…

Ok so i'm trying to use a PSC duplex cable on a 442 and i'm running into a snag. Ive programed the 442 to use the A/B toggle as the private line, which is working. I am receiving the mic signal at the 442. But when I test the headphones for the boom op you don't hear the mic, only the PL when in use otherwise its silent. Any thoughts from those more experienced with duplex cables?

Hello, I've got an audio puzzler for you here; (I've cross-posted this in RAMPS as well) Been surfing this board the past couple days gathering all kinds of useful tidbits and came across one discussion (regarding XLR wiring; specifically, the pros and cons of connecting pin1 to the XLR shell) that sparked my curiosity about a problem I had earlier this year. I was bag mixing for a doc and we're setting up for a nice, relaxed walk n' talk shot down North St beach here in Chicago and all of a sudden it seems that my boom pole has turned into a veritable hum magnet. The hum sounded like a messy version of 60cycle and would vary in amplitude and abrasiveness with …

Hello everyone, In a couple of weeks I am planning with a couple of friends to record a feature length film. They asked me to capture the audio. We have already selected the Sony PMW-EX1 as the camera to record on, which seems according to specs the camera to make pictures with, I also noticed from the specs and this forum that the audio part is not the worst you've heard. The camera has two inputs, line/microphone(+fantom). Controlling Boom Recorder while holding a boom doesn't seem very appealing to me, so I though that directly recording to this camera would be sufficient, do people here think this is stupid? Would I need to carry a mixer, or would connecting …

A job needs to have the director capable of talking to the camera people, but does not need the camera people the ability to talk back. I immediately thought of a proper PL, but it was suggested to see if I am able to "pull" something together with what I have. So I started to think of a Comtek situation with a 302 and a dynamic mic on a small stand in front feeding the Comtek. But I was also thinking of an inline ON/OFF switch. So the camera people won't have an open mic in their ears. I found one on Ebay, but was wondering if anyone has their favorites. I am looking for something that won't blow the camera peoples ears off when switched. I could just have him ride the f…
