I have heard reports that the Lectro SR has problems handling two frequencies near to each other. I was wanting to hear if anyone has had first hand experience that dispells or confirms this. Thanks Chris

I checked the specs page on the Zax site but didn't see this, anyone know the range on this? It says 6 hours on a Li-Ion, which is 4.8 amp hours, so that's what, .8 amps per hour? Even at 1 amp that seems pretty damn tiny considering a PD6 is 3 amps! Math was never my subject... Thanks! Dan Izen

I'm going to appear foolish by even asking this but... I need an answer. I have been using the Coopers direct outs to ISO, they are post fader not at all ideal. I am making up some TRS cables to use the inserts as my outs. Question is if I use the Tip and Sleeve to pins 1&2 xlr respectively. Do I have an impedence problem? I tried some adapters that were wired that way , seemed to work and sounded fine. Just wanted to wire up some cables to look neater. Thanks, LL

I asked about this repair company (guy, really) in an earlier post. I ended up driving my sick DA78 down to LA from Berkeley (on a trip for other reasons) and took it to FET in Burbank. Mark Naziry did all sorts of mods and fixes to my DA78, and it is working better than it has in years. The DTRS and other tape formats may not be much of a deal to us anymore, but for me it does still come up for archive retrieval (DAT too), so it is good to have someone around who can still make those machines work. His price was very reasonable I thought-much less than I had thought it would be. I think he works on consoles etc etc too, and I saw a lot of vintage keyboard instrument…

Now that the Cooper is not being made anymore, what is the go to mixer for cart based mixing? I am currently using a Mackie but want to upgrade and I am not sure what to upgrade to.

Jeff--I was impressed that you were using those devices on location as far back as BFG. I had a pair of Dynamites on my cart from the mid-1980s until 2000 when that cart was put out to pasture-- and was thought very odd for having them on location through out that time. They were really great for camera noise and some HVAC (in expander mode) and non-SP Betacam video (and early DVCAM etc) levels in peak limit mode. I basically wore mine out--haven't really found a modern successor I like as well that is that compact. (Tried the FMR Audio "RNC"s for a couple of doco series--cleaner+quieter than the old Dynamites but not really peak limiters .) Nowadays many mixers have…

I attended a seminar at Sony given by Glenn Sanders of Zaxcom and gleaned from the general discussion afterwards that the FCC is ignoring our little community and arbitrarily doling out UHF frequencies for the exclusive use of various cell phone, TV and other sundry corporations. The time frame according to John Coffey seems to be about two years before the airwaves that we are used to using become jammed up. Zaxcom have some very interesting products coming out and already available that, while not curing the ailment, seem to circumvent it somewhat, especially the wireless transmitter with 12 hours of high quality recording built in. It would seem to me that most if not…

All, I have been encountering issues with my Lectro 211 rig recently, and I wonder if anyone here has had the same, or similar issues? Ive owned three of these for over four years now, and have never had any "problems" with them, other than typical trappings of wireless. Recently, the signals have become less reliable. This is happening in the bag with whip antenna, and also in the quad coupler with 2 meter 50 ohm antenna cables plugging into zaxcom batwing antenna. The freqs are in block 21 and 22, and I scan them at every location to choose the cleanest freqs. The issues are happening indoors and out. Most recently, I was doing a 4 person round table talk, and 2 mic…

Looking at putting together some bag kits and considering the SR units, rather than 411s. Bit concerned by issues noted so far. Has anyone used the updated SR's? Your comments would be appreciated Thank you Chris B

I need to have my DA78 repaired--it sat for so long that the lubricants gummed up and the tensions are off. Tascam seems to be impossible to get a hold of, and I have to drive thru LA this week, so I thought Id try Musictek. They were very helpful on the phone, esp. in calming me down when I thought I needed a new head assembly at 434 hrs. Anyone used these guys? I think the fixed my Moog MANY years ago, but Im not sure. I unfortunately still need the DTRS format, both for old shows and for some networks that still want their stems that way.... Philip Perkins

I just picked up a couple of B3's wired for Lectro. They sound very noisy to me compared to my Sankens, MKE-2's, EMW's and B6's. I figured they would be close to the sound of the B6, but are not as hot and have a constant swishy sound to them, like they are accentuating the compander noise of my UM200 transmitters. There is also a hum when touching the skin. Anyone ever hear this before? I'm about to send them back.

Traveling to Saint John New Brunswick tomorrow. Is Lectro Block 24 good there? Also taking a block 21 as backup. Any experiences? Chris Newton

I normally carry a 442, 3 or 4 411a'a, 3 or 4 cast um400's and 2 um400 hops, plus BDSv2 in my Pegz-3 (in which I sometimes drop in a 302 or 744t). It also carries all my accessories and batteries. I recently did a shoot with the much lighter Wendt X5 and five 411's in a PortaBrace bag and had forgotten how much lighter and easier on the back that that setup was. I used the Setwear Small AC pouch for all my accessories and mic kits. I want to minimize my back strain and maximize more of my things around my belt area. Any recommendations? Pegz-1? Pegz PPMB? Pegz-1F? Portabrace? Koala? What are your experiences? Thanks! -Chris

Lectrosonics SR/5P Receiver - A Second Look After The Updates Last week I received the updated SR/5P. The unit had two internal and one external hardware change and numerous updates to the operating system. Hardware Upgrades The first improvements were for two bugs. The first corrected the unit’s diversity and the second fixed the second channel’s battery display. One IMPORTANT note: Lectro tells me that because of the way the SR is designed, it is better to have the first channel be a LOWER frequency than the second channel for performance reasons. The obvious hardware upgrade is the 5P (external 5pin adapter) which allows the unit to work on camer…

I'm doing more and more shows it seems where I could really use smaller radio packs. My main quad pack has been Microns which I love for their sound and ruggedness but I have been thinking about the field unit to go with my Deva V for those times when I'm of the cart. If anybody wants to jump in here with pros or cons any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Everybody, Well, I've had my Fusion for 2 1/2 weeks now and I am very happy with it. I admit I breathed a small sigh of relief upon seeing the just-announced and very nice SD 788t, as that turns out to be a very different machine from this and not what I personally had been looking for. I wanted a machine that could live on the cart and provide all the metadata functionality for scripted work and could live in a bag and stand alone without an additional mixer needed. The Fusion continues to exceed my expectations. While the Fusion is a complete all-in-one-box mixer/recorder with eight full-size XLR inputs and eight knobs (high-friction and knurled--thank you!…

Hi All, Planning on putting a cart together using an upright magliner & a 19" rack, probably a 16u SKB shock rack. I'd either like to use the vertical cart from filmtools, or sit the rack on the 'toe' of an upright magliner. I've never seen the filmtools carts, wondered if they'd take the weight (whilst wheeling along on the back wheels) of a fully loaded rack. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks Gareth

Last time I checked was in October 2007, I've been checking the firmware update notes since then, but it may have scaped to my attention. So , it is still not possible to edit metadata after recording a file? Any progress in any metadata related field on the 7 series recorders? (as unlinking file name and metadata, etc) Thank you

Hi all, Most bizarre RF interference from Sony HD Cam HDW 750 on my lectro radio mics. Twice on a series, weeks apart, no other occurences, using radio mics all the time... Problem: sounds like noisy "breathing/beat" over my radio mics, cyclical, spacing of about 5 seconds. All is OK on rehearsal, but when the cameras roll, the hit comes, similar to cellphone hits, but not! Very quiet room, 20ft from tx to rx. Different frequencies each time. Audio quality is unaffetced, the 'noise' is 'over' the audio. Has anyone had this before? Any solutions? Has anyone ever tried to electronically 'blimp/shield' a HD camera, I know they are basically just one big RF generator, but …

Ok, I looks like I failed on my Slate Sync. Usually I take the 702T, run it "free run", and then plug in my slate and sync it up at what ever frame rate the camera is running at.. And, just to make sure, I re-sync about every 4 hours, but I also watch the slate in my monitor, and count the beats to make sure it's very close to my recorder and theres little drifting. Producer gets a call from the Telecine, saying that the slate is out of sync a lot of the time on most of the shots.. Well, I want to know how I can make this better, as too not screw this up again in the future, so I asked a few questions about telecine. In the mean time, the producer has a pickup day …
