Hello, As my post indicates my 70 bit the dust. It adds low level Rf noise to the signal output making it quite unusable. Besides the US branch of Sennheiser are there any tried and trustworthy places that you have dealt with that you would recomend? Or should I just forget about it, and call back Sennheiser. Bartek

Does anyone know what it takes to remote roll a SD 702T (or 744T for that matter) and Metacorder (on a MacMini) from a CS208D?

I've been using 4 lectro 411 receivers with my 442 for the past couple of weeks. Strange thing happened today and yesterday. I noticed late in the day, i had to slowly keep turning up the gain on my mixer to get a decent level from the receivers. I kept turning them up until finaly i was maxed out. I went into the menu settings, and adjusted the output level, and as soon as i moved it up or down, the gain level snapped back to normal. Anyone else have this happen to them ? Since it only seems to happen later in the day, could it be a build up of temperature ? (i'm working a reality gig, so the bag stays on for 10-11 hours)

Camera car shots

I used to dread camera car shots, either the free run/hostess tray type or the towing/wire the car up versions. Granted in cold weather we get to sit up the front with the heater on and chat with the driver while the others have to brave the wind and rain etc etc., but iInever liked the hassle of the nagra/SQN/shoeps active cables rig that I used to great effect for years. It was always fraught with a myriad of difficulties which varied from job to job. Now I just load a battery into the Deva V, and voila, I have a four channel mixer/recorder/slate mic in one. I then place an antenna tree on a grip arm behind the window of the cab, wire the actors or plant the car dependi…

http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=MR__Series It looks like KORG is coming out with some new semi-Pro recorders that feature 1-bit recording. I would love someone to explain 1-bit technology to me, again, since I really don't understand it so well. We always think in terms of 16-bit, 24-bit etc., and I'm sure "1-bit" technology has a PR problem since it is a very low number, so what's it all about? - Jeff Wexler

Hi all, I just powered up one of my 201's and the display is solid "black." The unit was on, and I switched out the NP-1 that powers the whole bag (NiCad battery) and when power returned, the display was solid. Audio still passes, but I would have a hell of a time trying to play Pong Anyone experience this?

What are you guys doing to protect from the ocassional burst from your "meat puppets" that would overload the output when recording ISO's through your Direct Outs? Do you set your ISO's a few dB lower than you would your main mix out that has the limiters to protect you? Do some mixers have limiters on their direct outs? Or do you use Aux sends for your ISO's that might have a limiter capability? Do you use some outboard gear limiter before you send it to the recorder? Perhaps a signal flow explaination would be helpful. Thanks! Mike

Cart Power and Yamaha 01V96 Power ?
by Guest Jeffrey Colon- 7 replies

Hello all, I have read numerous posts here and elswhere RE: cart power... It seems the PSC box is a good solution for an all DC rig. For those of you using inverters, I am wondering how much current you are typically drawing...anyone solar charging in the 3rd world etc.? Caveats regarding shore power? I am also curious if there is anyone modding the Yamaha for Low voltage DC (cart) operation... or do you invert and go 110v AC ? Any ideas or input much appreciated. Jeff C.

Has anyone had any experience with this themselves? I know that this is mostly a camera department concern for some, but sometimes they ask us to do it(not the case here, however). We are shooting on 2 HVX cameras recording to P2 cards, and the camera guys can't figure it out, even with the manualsand reference books. They can't find the proper menus to allow this to happen, and apparently just connecting a Firewire cable doesn't do it:) Anyone know the procedure and menus to make it happen? Or even a link? Thanks

Hi all, I've been researching the heck out of equipment choices for quite some time and have become familiar with most all of the quality equipment available. To date, I've been paying my dues and getting experience with mix and match rental gear. Essentially, I'm looking to put together a "pro quality" package that will be reliable for docs, TV lifestyle shows, and small independent films. Here are the 2 packages I have been considering:Â http://www.trewaudio.ca/store/product.phpproductid=712&cat=66&page=1 http://www.trewaudio.ca/store/product.phpproductid=482&cat=66&page=1 The biggest debate I've been having is whether to go the distanc…

I'm about to start working on a reality series, and the gear we have is looking pretty good. We're just having one issue, and even after 5 experienced soundguys have tried figuring this out, we just aren't getting it. We have 5 SD 442's, but to get an extra channel, they have rented 5 MP1's. The hope was to take the output of that and run it into the mix in of the 442, but only to the right channel. The rental house made up 5 custom cables they thought would do the trick, but they don't work. The audio is thin and very low and sort of distorty sounding. I tried just using an xlr to TA3F, but it did some wierd stuff. Signal was present for about a second or two, reall…

OK, I've been using Sony's most of my career and never really noticed this phenomena until the last year or so. Freaked me out when I started to notice it, because I obviously thought it was coming down the pipeline. But a slight turn of the head and it was gone. Now, I could just position myself differently everytime I notice it, but what fun is that. And it doesn't always go away in higher winds. Has anyone else noticed this, and have you done anything to alieviate it? ear muffs? different cushions? I like to use the Sony's on over-the-shoulder work, and save the Ultrasones for the studio, ever since I broke my other Ultrasones on an EFP gig. Bt rethinking that approa…

Anyone had the chance to listen to these cans? I'm interested in an alternative to the usual cast of characters for location mixing. How do these sound? How do they compare to DT48, MDR7506 and HD25? Thanks, Eric Lamontagne

Hey all, I was just doing my usual check of sound equipment and I see that B&H is taking orders for the ZFR100. Has anyone heard anything about this recorder yet? Is it really available? Would love to hear a hands-on report. Thanks! Phil

I am speaking of a small 3ccd camera, prosumer type! The size of your palm! Some of these cameras have 3.5mm unbalanced inputs. Does anyone know of any mics that would work with these. I was thinking of a directional lav tape mounted just around the lens. Would a Sennheiser ME4 work? If wired for 3.5mm jack? Would I need a power supply? I know some of these are dependant on the camera, but I am just trying to provide some sort of better mic for a handheld camera of that size. The camera is always within arms reach, thought maybe a cardioid lav would work. Has anyone heard of anything with greater reach in a lav setup? Thanks

Greetings! I have a 211 Rx that shuts off when it's associated Tx is turned on within range. It will also shut off if I'm tuning it up/down to a Tx that is near me. Cycling the power switch won't turn it back on. It has to be unplugged, reconnected and then switched on. If I turn it on after the Tx or walk into range of the TX, it remains on and functions normally. This is rental gear and I have spares, so I'm not troubled by it. I'm just curious as to what it is so if I run into it again I'll know. Thanks for any and all replies. -Steigs

They've just announced that they are going to sell one, shipping to start next week: http://www.sounddevices.com/products/acc/xldvdram.htm No external power required, DVD-RAM write speed of 5x, can be connected to a Windows or Mac computer via either Fire Wire or USB.

What are the top capsules you would say are most often used, and worthy of being in your kit, and which ones barely see the light of day. I hear stories on set of some guys constantly changing capsules. I always thought the MK41 was "the one", do you use the MK4? Any others? Thanks Mike

Hi all, I am looking for the make of this windjammer that's in this picture. It was taken off the Sanken website and my dealer seems to think it's a PSC product....Koala Max possibly? Just double checking before I order. Thanks again. Ron
