although Capt. Cut 'n Paste missed this one: http://mixonline.com/mixline_live/klark-teknik-dn9696/ It is interesting to see a high end, 100% professional audio manufacturer with almost no ties to Production Sound, as we know it, offering a product that some of us might find useful. it is designed to compliment the SADiE workstations.

I have had some ridiculous humming problems when using my CMIT-5u, both wireless (w/ UM400 tx + Denecke ps-1 + mc40 cable to phantom + whirlwind boom cable, Ambient carbon fiber pole) and even hardwired (Cooper 104, whirlwind cable, Ambient carbon fiber pole). I had a mean hum when using it wireless indoors with an 18k HMI nearby (I know, who the eff puts an 18k indoors?!), and also hardwired in a rap star's home! In both cases I was battery powered and untethered so it was not a grounding thing, and it increased or diminished when I changed the angle/placement of the mic. I tried different boom cables and the problem was exactly the same. I did not have the problem w…

http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_prod_no=MR1000&category_id=3 This is a 1 bit/5.6MHz (Not KHz) recorder with a 40 gig hard disk. Is there any discernible merit in recording at this resolution? -Tom

Fellow Mixer, I just got an insurance Quote from Dewitt Stern and wanted to see if everyone thought it was fair. The quote was $645.00 for $30,000 in coverage and $15,000 in rental coverage if I rent any gear to others which I do . Does this pricing seem fair I thought it did. I am based in Ga and the equipment is being stored at my home.

Hey Everyone, Quick question. I'm working on a feature where we have a steadycam shot of a chase scene that runs down multiple hallways, stairways and small doorways. No dilogue, just footsteps and heavy breathing from the actors. I'm laving for the heavy breathing but I would love to mount a Sanken CS-3e on the camera itslef. Does anyone know of any hardware I can use to mount the mic on the Arri SR3 16mm camera. Any help would be greatfully appreciated, Chris Howland lasoundmixer (at) mac DOT com myspace DOT com slash lasoundmixer

Okay technical wizards. Help me with this... I put a meter on my two pieces of gear I run off AC (Mackie 1642 & RME FF800). When plugged directly into AC at 118v the FF800 by itself metered 21w, 31vA, .26A - The Mackie metered 30w, 38vA, .34A. Together they were 52w, 66vA, .56A. So about 6A @ 12v DC. The watt rating of the units were accurate per manufacturers specs. 20w for the Fireface and 30w for the Mackie. The draw seemed to not be affected in any way by any settings or bandwidth changes in the FF800, and did not vary in any significant way on the Mackie when additional inputs/outputs or p48 or any other functions were used. I then plugged the units i…

I have a SD 302 and I'm curious if any other 302 owners use the "advanced gain structure" method to line up the meters with your recording device. I would like to hear about the pros and cons of working this way. I interface with a number of different cameras and the metering is all over the place. Some of the older Beta SP camera/deck meters are particularly tricky. There doesn't seem to much room above zero on the scale yet the meters aren't very responsive till you hit it harder and then its a tightrope between getting strong level and getting close to clipping. If I listen to the return loud enough to hear what I'm doing I sometimes hear clipping on the peaks but…

Sadly I'm starting a project that is going to knock me out of the AES in NYC... always a great show, in a great place! Of the many things I wanted to check out -- something new on the Cantar X2 : the AutoSlate. Is anyone out there running this? Is it a software upgrade, or a piece of hardware ? It seems like a great idea.... a timestamp for the file triggered merely by sticks.... Since the advent of the GR-1, I have always tried to include a reasonably close TC entry on each take of my sound reports ..... such an AutoSlate function would pretty much do that for me ..... with frame accuracy. It seems like it might be a "hybrid" use of TC with either Denecke…

Hi CrewC Hope all is well ... I'm selling my old friend The Cameo II, listed in the "For Sale Section here on Jeff's forum. You asked for a review of the Mix 12... I thought that I might share my thoughts with others as well ...HERE GOES! Zaxcom Mix 12 using Penny & Giles long throw... This board is about as close to no noise as physically possible with plenty of available gain... The thermal noise of the germanium and silicon is about all that might be there, "I can't hear it if it is". I can tell you that I've been many years removed from analogue and far from xformer hysteresis phase shift, noise and all stuff that that goes along... A "bit" spoiled.. T…

Thought some people might want to check this out. I recently was looking for a low cost portable D to A converter so i could run a separate comtek/ifb feed from my 744t. Someone on ramps dug this up for me, and it works rather well: http://tinyurl.com/2wdby6 and http://www.diykits.com.hk/ total cost with shipping from hong kong is under $100. it also came with an ac adapter, another power cable with an unterminated pigtail (that i had a 4 pin hirose connection put on), a spidf cable, and an optical cable. (i think it also shipped with an ethernet cable too)

" At IBC2007, Sennheiser featured its new EM 3732 twin wireless receiver with 90MHz switching bandwidth. Features include high-quality audio performance, numerous connection options, scanning function and transmitter synchronization via infrared interface. The receiver has six user-selectable fixed frequency banks and one user bank with up to 60 channels that can be programmed in increments of 5kHz. The EM 3732 automatically searches for free frequencies within frequency banks. Using the EM 3732’s infrared interface allows the device to program the SKM 5200, SK 5212 and SKP 3000 transmitters with receiver data in minimum time. The level of the receiver's a…

Does anyone have any info relating to the older Sennheiser mics, stuff like the 805T and 415T? Google pretty much throws a blank. I did get hold of an 805T service manual, but it was about spares/repairs rather than what I am specifically looking for which is the usual frequency response and mv/Pa measurements etc. Are these still considered "reasonable" mics? Or would their age imply that, even when new, they'd be a whole lot noisier and colder than their more modern day equivilents? Just wondering out loud ....

Was wondering if FORREST FORBES still does mods on the Mackie ONYX mixers. Found a post on R.A.M.P.S that said he used to. Also see that he is with Coffey Sound now.

I currently have the Microtrack as my transcript recorder, which works fine as long as I am stationary and plugged into AC power. It sucks for on the run transcripts because of battery life. I use on of theose energizer cell phone chargers to continuiously supply power on the run, but when In record pause for a lengthy period of time It went into charge mode and I lost a recording in the process of moving locations. I looked at the Edirol R-09. Interal AA batteries are the best for ENG bag work, but the unit seems very fragile for the rigors of bag work. I see here some have mentioned the line in jack breaking !! Can this unit stand up to field bag work ? The Zo…
