I'm looking at going from using 411As to using either the SixPack or the Venue from Lectrosonics. I just wanted to get everyones opinion on each of the two, what you feel of the pros/cons of each and any good or bad experiences you've had with either setup. The rackmount of the venue won't be a problem for me since I'm about to add a rack case to my kit. Thanx, marque

I understand that a number of people saw this product in Las Vegas and I am interested in knowing whether my perception about it, from the point of view of using a Schoeps microphone and not having seen the product, is accurate. From what I see on the Trew Audio site, and from what I have read about the K-ZEP, it looks like it may be a W20R1 with a larger volume of air between the fur and the basket. For those who have a problem with the fact that the plastic "nose" of the W20R1 is in contact with the front grill of the microphone (You know who you are), it might be preferable for that reason alone. If the analogy to the W20R1 is correct, it may be more attractive…

Can anyone recomend a good, clean and Quiet inverter. I've tried a couple of different ones, but they are all quite loud. Cooling fans are mostly to blame.

Writing files back to DV824

I am having no luck writing files back to the HDD on my DV824 from my computer. This makes it a little difficult to transfer work from the 744T that I have had out on run-around work. The only way to do it at this time, according to Fostex, is using an Etherlink cable and an FTP. A USB/Firewire interface is expected "soon." I can transfer files off the DV824 but not onto. Error say simply "can not write file." All discs are unprotected. Fostex USA is a bit stumped and Fostex Japan hasn't gotten back to me yet. Maybe someone on the group has figured out the solution. D.

I know that there are other mixers who are using this machine. Mine is now fully integrated into my system although I have yet to record a picture with it. The next project will be the "acid test." But I am finding some, let's say, peculiaities, with the machine; some of which I have come up with good work-arounds for and other that still have me a bit baffled. I would like to have a forum, either here if Jeff thinks it has merit, or somewhere else where the growing number of on-set users, and the post folks who handle the DVD-RAMs from these recorders could talk about potential issues before they ruin an otherwise perfectly good catered breakfast. Anyone else? To…

Just read Mark Ulano's article in the Locatiosound corp. newsletter. Wow. What a setup ! If you haven't read it yet, i highly recomend you check it out. He talks about how he has incorporated the Aviom digital snake into his package. The boom oop gets his own cart with 2 venue RX's Comtek TX's and a couple of other things I'm missing. Mark can receive all 16 channels through 1 Cat 5 cable that basicaly costs 15 to 30 cents a foot !! and is nice and small, light and can be bought at any computer or electronics store. He even manages to also get 2 video feeds all through this one cable. Not to mention all the stuff he sends back to the boom ops end. Anyways, I've probably b…

Ok--so I'm the last to know, but I had a chance to buy a CS3e for a great price, and went for it. First day out....it rocked, as the everyone else apparently already knows. LONG day by myself holding a boom still over a Very Famous Actor (continuing to roll wild between camera takes), overhead grif w/o much headroom, "tunnel of love" side shower curtain and negative fills (outside!), bucolic woods in the frame and a busy highway just out of same--pretty much ideal CS3 conditions. No way could I have gotten the KMR82 in its zep (let alone my 815) in under the grif (right up against it to clear the shot) and then held it for 30 min @ a shot about 13 feet out on the pole…

Have read the Deva manual and have a couple of questions. 1) there is a time code reference button with 2 choices: XTAL or AES. The 2004 manual gives a description of each choice. However, the 2006 manual gives the same description and then says the button has no effect and always use the XTAL position. I'm left wondering why you are given a choice that you can't use. Can anyone explain these choices? 2) With all the functions that the Deva can do, is it possible to run low or run out of resources when recording? Would you get an warning message similar to what happens with a computer? Could the recorder create errors in the files recording or stop recording…

Been looking at the 702t, Tascam, and the like for a backup machine. Then it occurred to me might as well join 'em. I've always used PC's. If I use boom recorder, for instance. So the Deva goes down (hopefully not) I guess I would need a seperate tc generator right? Deneke has one in my budget. Who is using what as a firewire interface? I'm sure this has been covered, so bear with me. Thanks, Larry

Refresh my memory, anyone using this or other Cf based machines. I would rather have a toenail pulled out than buy a DAT so I'm seiously considering the 702t and the EZDigiMagicâ„¢DM220-D08 with some 2 gig cards as my back-up. So many choices... Larry

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed somewhere else before. Just went thru the SD 744t manual, and I am still cofused as to what the difference is between the two formats. I could probably forge a guess, but need to know exactly which one I should be using and what the difference is. Also, another question came to mind today: are you guys generally running in free run time code or 24 hour time code? Thanks for any help -Greg-

Hi all, Anyone have experience recording audio on a Nagra IV SJ recorder. As you know, this particular model was intended for scientific measurement and it records "direct" to tape, without inserting emphasis/deemphasis at record/playback, -theoretically- having excessive tape hiss because of that. I'd like to know about any real experience with it, or well founded comments. It was used a lot to record subsonic sources like very low freq elephant talk, high frew insect calls, traffic rumble studies, etc. It's freq resp was 2,5Hz to 35kHz, and DC to 4kHz on the central FM channel. Thank you in advance, Fernando

I own 4 UCR 411A's 2 blk 22 and 2 blk 24. Whenever I scan the frequencies, I noticed that the the recievers within any of my blocks show a different pattern, or same pattern but different interferance strength. Am I mistaken in assuming that both recievers within the block should show identical data? All the settings are the same. What is going on here? Bartek

I live in South Africa and shoot mainly low budget tv shows (magazine/culture/lifestyle/youth etc), and the occasional documentary or corporate gig. For a long time Ive been making do with rental gear and amateur gear, but the gear is unreliable and makes ME look unreliable too. So Im trying to put together my own kit with the money Ive saved from the jobs Ive been doing. What I already got is: 1 x Sennheiser 416p48 with Rycote Softy and Pistol Grip 1 x Oktava MK-012 with foam cover (havent needed anything more for the interiors Ive done). Shock mounting is with the Pistol Grip (416 and Oktava have same diameter) 1 x Sennheiser HD212pro Headphones 1 x Lightwave …

Hi all, Another question. I'm going to pick up a couple of Listentech Rx and a Tx to test out (I'm really trying to get everything in my kit on AA instead of 9V) and was wondering which frequency area was recommended...72 or 216? My current Comtek Tx's are in the 72 range, so I was leaning that direction, but was wondering if anyone had experience that said 216Mhz is better. Thanks again to everyone for all the info here...I appreciate it. Phil

The HD shoot i start in a couple of weeks, will not have any downconverting on set for monitors. They will have a few HD monitors for those who want/need to see. So the LCD on my cart won't be much use. I was wondering if it was possible to watch the video feed through my Laptop somehow ? Anyone know of any program that could accomplish this ? (I use a g4 powerbook) Or does anyone know of a cheap way for me to downconvert the HD picture for my LCD ?

Jeff, not sure if you want this here or under manufacturer's, though I have no tie to Countryman other than I've recently had a great experience with them I wanted to share... I recently picked up a used B6 (used only once and and only on Sunday by a little old lady in Pasadena....yeah, we've all heard it...) but it was a good deal, not stolen (I had the serial number checked) and so I picked it up (really good deal...$120). So, I took it into Countryman (they're about 10 minutes from my house up here) to get it re-plugged and tested. I also purchased one of their nifty pouches (since it came with no accessories). In 10 minutes, they tested it, re-plugged it, and ga…
