Anyone had the chance to listen to these cans? I'm interested in an alternative to the usual cast of characters for location mixing. How do these sound? How do they compare to DT48, MDR7506 and HD25? Thanks, Eric Lamontagne

Hey all, I was just doing my usual check of sound equipment and I see that B&H is taking orders for the ZFR100. Has anyone heard anything about this recorder yet? Is it really available? Would love to hear a hands-on report. Thanks! Phil

I am speaking of a small 3ccd camera, prosumer type! The size of your palm! Some of these cameras have 3.5mm unbalanced inputs. Does anyone know of any mics that would work with these. I was thinking of a directional lav tape mounted just around the lens. Would a Sennheiser ME4 work? If wired for 3.5mm jack? Would I need a power supply? I know some of these are dependant on the camera, but I am just trying to provide some sort of better mic for a handheld camera of that size. The camera is always within arms reach, thought maybe a cardioid lav would work. Has anyone heard of anything with greater reach in a lav setup? Thanks

Greetings! I have a 211 Rx that shuts off when it's associated Tx is turned on within range. It will also shut off if I'm tuning it up/down to a Tx that is near me. Cycling the power switch won't turn it back on. It has to be unplugged, reconnected and then switched on. If I turn it on after the Tx or walk into range of the TX, it remains on and functions normally. This is rental gear and I have spares, so I'm not troubled by it. I'm just curious as to what it is so if I run into it again I'll know. Thanks for any and all replies. -Steigs

What are the top capsules you would say are most often used, and worthy of being in your kit, and which ones barely see the light of day. I hear stories on set of some guys constantly changing capsules. I always thought the MK41 was "the one", do you use the MK4? Any others? Thanks Mike

Hi there, just wondering if anyone knows the wiring configuration to attach a Sanken Cos11 mic capsule to a Sennheiser transmitter. I have a very capable maintainence department who would like to do this but information is difficult to find on the correct wiring. Can anyone help? It would be much appreciated

Hi all, I am looking for the make of this windjammer that's in this picture. It was taken off the Sanken website and my dealer seems to think it's a PSC product....Koala Max possibly? Just double checking before I order. Thanks again. Ron

On RAMPS there has been mention of the Roland/Edirol R-09 flash based recorder. Has anyone used this machine yet? Seems like an alternative to the R-1 or the M-Audio Microtrack. Regards, Jeff Wexler

I have seen these lights that plug onto large consoles, as well as the ones that go on the Coopers, and Sonosax, I think even Mackie has a few with light connectors (Either BNC or XLR4 or some such). My question is whether anyone has seen a light with a 3 pin XLR that can be powered off of 48V? It would make sense if you've got a spare input IMHO. I have seen those gooseneck lights that run off of USB power, which seems like it might be better, but my USB ports are all used up. So what are you using for lights on your cart? Anyone?

Hi there, I need to put together a sound recording kit for a 20 week doco shoot. It will be shot on DV camera. My director wants it to be a wireless set up. So far I have looked at getting a Sound Devices 3 channel mixer, hopefully I can also get a SD 744T hard disk recorder. I have a Sennheiser MKH60 and accessories but I am unfamiliar with radio mics and wireless systems. I want a good wireless mic system and a reasonable wireless link back to one of the camera inputs from my mixer. Lectrosonics would be great but the accountants have baulked at the price. Is the Sennheiser EW112 system adequate for good sound? Should I get Sennheiser transmitters and receive…

Hi Jeff Et-Al, Billy Sarokin; eloquently covered the Zaxcom 900 on RAMPS without leaving question to the operational benefits. B U T – This old dog is communication starved with dancing keyboard fingers seeking additional advice on this board.. I just took a show that barley pockets enough bucks to purchase one of “The ultimate wirelessâ€. Lots of scripted scenes in a moving Bus... Clearly the 900 seriesâ€ Digitally ingests the operational lunch of (FM) -- Fu&*ing Magic xmitters; adds time code options and metadata; recording features as good or better than any recorder out there at 1/20th the size (900; SD card format conversions operational with…

My favorite piece of equipment

I was pondering the other day, in between takes, that now that I have my cart almost the way I want it, other than my chair and my ears, what is my most important piece of equipment? I came to the conclusion that it's my PSC powermax's (I have two) They distribute 6, 12 and 18 volts to the various power consumers on my cart with invariable efficiency and even when the electricians inadvertantly "re-patch" without informing me, they continue to supply uninterrupted DC to all my bits and pieces. They are fed by two 55 amp/hour sealed lead acid batteries in a custom box which was made for me by our construction crew. If I get the opportunity I'll post a pic of my cart which …

I use Sanken COS-11's and Lectro 211's presently. I have always had to turn the gain on the body packs to about the first notch to avoid blowing the preamp away. Is there something I can do to change this? My trams gain is about noon on the same TX, so I know it's a hot mic signal.

Jeff and group, Early yesterday morning my van was cleaned out by bruglars. The equipment was uninsured. Most Atlanta mixers do not carry equipment insurance since the gear is covered when on shoots, and the market here is so economicaly brutal. Hopefully today I can find some serial numbers for some of my gear and update the list below. This has been a painful event. I could not sleep and guess that maybe I'll go run 15 or so miles. (I started running as a hobby to keep in shape for demanding shoots, so now it pays off as therapy exercise at 3AM.) hoping for a break with Atlanta Police Dept (but what are those odds?), David Terry Stolen Gear: Dav…

David Terry's loss prompts me to mention something that has not really come up here or on ramps. An employee of a reputable sales/rental house in New York told me a few months ago that there are people who are targetting camera, lighting and sound gear. According to this gentleman, the theives know what is in production and they are casing security. He also told me that this is happening because there is a ready market, within the film community, for stolen gear. Apparently this is true even for gear produced in small numbers, and documented through serial numbers, such as motion picture cameras. If true, this means is that in some cities there are knowledgeable …

Transom is an organization dedicated to public and experimental radio. Reading their site today, I came across a recent, fiarly comprehensive review of Sound Devices recorders (forcusing on the 722, but largely applicable to their other models), together with comments from users:Â http://www.transom.org/tools/recording_interviewing/200613_sound_devices_722/ I may have mentioned this before, but there is also some interesting material on Transom by Walter Murch: http://www.transom.org/guests/review/200504.review.murch.html

I'm looking for a really small Olympus-style stereo flash recorder w/ both internal mics and external mic jacks as well as HP jacks and USB i/o for use by a military jet pilot while doing fairly extreme aerobatics. He wants something smaller (and more g-resistant) than the D8 DAT he's been using (and has now broken). I've looked into this on the web but there are so many models of these things at so many price points that I wondered if anyone had a recommendation. The pilot can have his tech crew make anything required to interface the recorder to the plane's com system, and he is really in love with the small size and no moving parts aspects of these recorders. Phi…
