Just finished working with them for a month or so. Nice for tight spaces for size and frequency selection. http://tyfordaudiovideo.blogspot.com/2013/09/sennheiser-sk-5212-ii-and-ek-3241.html Regards, Ty Ford

Inviting anyone who has shoot experience with the new A20 Nexus system to share their thoughts here. I’ve read the material, watched the videos but I know I have questions that only time can tell things like… - Stability… does it ever crash? - Bugs? - A20 battery life? Is it practical to get 5-6hrs from these if you’re actively managing them? - Nexlink Interference to other film gear? - Transmitter durability -Range! Sound mixers only please! Thanks!

Hi all, first time posting so sorry if the images don't load on the first go. I've been doing audio for performance capture recently, and I'd like to share the rig that myself and the HMC specialist came up with. I am hoping to get some criticism and feedback about our method, and discuss my thoughts/observations after using this setup for a shoot. As it stands, we have been using Joe's Sticky Stuff to adhere the lavalier to the helmet. This is not a permanent solution (obviously), but I have been brainstorming different options. Eventually I would like to purchase Hide-A-Mic concealers and get them permanently mounted to the frame, or fashion some form of mou…

I am getting old. I need something bright. 10” will be perfect but I can go for 7” I was thinking single 15.6 with a quad box. What do you guys and gals use? P.S. Not a fan of BLACK Magic’s lack of locking power connector.

I bought some disposable AA lithiums from Amazon and tested for power capacity. Total power was a better benchmark since average voltage and Amp hours varied by 8% or so across the three brands. Total power makes more sense due to the switching "power" supplies in Lectro transmitters, since they are like a DC transformer with power in equal to power out (less small losses). I bought Eveready as a reference, NINMA since they claimed 3500 mAh, and EBL since I recognized the brand as a larger seller of battery products. The testing rig was a computer controlled battery tester made by West Mountain Radio. The test current was a constant 400 mA similar to Lectro transmitt…

Just a service note for those still working with an R4 pro. KingSpec PATA IDE 44 Pin 2.5" SSD drives are fully compatible both physically and electronically. They offer various capacities. I installed the 128 GB and R4 pro booted without difficulty. Those contemplating working with the r4 PRO and the Remote Audio's BDS need to be aware that the r4 PRO does not have positive/negative ground protection on the 4 pin external power socket. This means that if you attach the wrong device, i.e. a radio mic with the wrong ground polarity, you will fry the power input on the r4 pro. Roland does not do ANY component level repairs for this unit. So this mistake will cost $250 for …

-EDITED by Zaxcom for corrections to specifications Maxx is a powerful new tool for your sound bag. It’s an audio mixer, RF transmitter, recorder, timecode reader/generator and visual timecode slate all in one small package. Audio Mixer Maxx has four full size XLR analog mic/line level inputs with 48 V Phantom power that incorporate the Zaxcom Nomad’s microphone preamps with NeverClip™ (patent pending). Looks very interesting. Seems to tick most of the boxes of the rumours. Multiband was a new one for me, certainly very interesting for people doing doc work. Was expecting a smaller form factor, but can only imagine that this is the first of a range. Didnt mention anything about 48v, so from the rumors, they might have dropped that feuture on this particulair model?

Anybody else using the Studiologic SL Mixface? Sound Devices recently added supported support for it in a new firmware update for the Sound Devices 8 Series. Just started using it seriously myself a couple of weeks ago on my current production, and mostly I'm loving it! It's a great addition, but it has a couple of minor things I wish were different. The Studiologic SL Mixface has Bluetooth. The Sound Devices 833 has Bluetooth. But there is no way to connect them both together I believe? Would love if there was a firmware update to support this wireless Bluetooth connection! 😉 Pretty please? (especially as the Micro USB conn…

Now that we’re in 2023. This fine unit’s life cycle is going on 9 years old. Has anyone heard of an imminent update? Thanks.

Hi, I am looking for a replacement for my rode ntg3 as it is too heavy and too long for me. I need to use it on a boom or attach it to my audio bag or sometimes even use it on a camera. So it should be very small. Options to me are the Sennheiser mkh 8060 or the rode ntg5. Maybe the deity s-mic 2s but I think it's not directional enough. Do you think it's worth spending more for the Sennheiser 8060? Is it really better? More directionallity? Did anyone use one of the mics? Any other recommendations? Thanks for your help!

Something new from DPA at a really good price (under $1000). Specs look to be on par or better (lower noise, lower current, higher headroom) than the 4017 but with no switchable filters. I don't think I'd miss them though because this, like the mini CMIT, has a built in roll off starting at about 60Hz. A little less presence boost than the 4017 otherwise very flat. Form factor seems nice at a little over 7" but with enough preamp section to be easily mountable in a variety of shock mounts. A little heavier than the miniCMIT. Also they're touting it as extremely durable and water/humidity resistant. Here in Chicago I saw a picture of them putting …

hey now, i'm looking for the best matching product number (was leaning towards rycote windjammer, but open to suggestions for anything that fits over the bd5 snugly/functionally). ideally i'd snag a couple of the w20 r1's, but am on a tight budget for the next few months. do not have a need for a blimp, as these will be run with various coincident pairings of various schoeps caps. bonus points for something besides the standard grey/black/beige (flair works fine for this situation/application also somewhat crunched on time for special ordering purposes, so more bonus points if someone has a pair to part with or…

Saw this on Comtek’s website. I have always had issues when using the M216 transmitter and this new antenna advertises to alleviate many of them. It also seems to require a modification from Comtek in order to work optimally. Comtek happens to be about 10 mins from my house so I’m going to pay them a visit tomorrow. I’ll report back. ————————————————— We are excited to introduce our new SLW-216B Base Load Whip Antenna specifically designed for improved performance during bag use with new M-216 Option P7 transmitters. This optional antenna (ordered separately) assists with reducing interference from close proximity to other equipment, helps mi…

Ran into an issue with my NP-1 batteries today. I have 5 NP-L7S NP1 batteries. I just came back from a trip and when i tried charging them on my JL-2plus charger, two of them did not charge. They went from red led to a blinking orange led. The other three charged fine. I then tried charging them on my KL4 charger and they started to charge with no problem. After calling IDX support, i was told to try to bend ( ever so slightly ) the contacts pin on the charger because they taught that the battery sensor were not communicating properly with the charger. Well it worked. They are now charging. I love when it is that simple….

Hi All, I’m an Sony FX6 user and for audio I use the d-27 (2x UTX-B40 and the URX-P41D) with the SMAD Shoe so that I can have the two inputs and still use the cameramic. I always used to work with Sennheiser so still getting used to the workflow. One problem I bumped in to is the sensitivity issue. If I use two wireless microphones and one person is talking really loud, and the other one not. I tweak the output level on the receiver to for example -6db. Then I tweak the input level wheel on the fx6 to make it as good as possible. I also want to have the audio meters in camera at around -10db. Is there a workaround because now I …

Hi guys, I am curious about the way you organize your kit to lav actors. I usually find myself with the radio mic box in one hand, a belts' bag in another, my tapes around my wrist... and sometimes I go mic up the actors forgetting something... My transmitters are well organized in my cart but I think I should just put everything in a bag/case, well organized. I'm trying to figure out the most convenient set up for me to have everything at the same place. If you have some pictures it might help get a better set up and I'm sure it will be an inspiration to everyone! Thx, Renaud

Good day, folks. I'm Carlos, a Colombian scholar and filmmaker currently based in the US as a doctoral student. This is my first time posting, but I've been lurking in this forum for so long and have found invaluable advice. Thanks a lot for keeping the discussion up! So, about me: I make documentary shorts, and I'm currently on the market for a transmitter/receiver system that allows me to upgrade my beloved Sennheiser G4 512. I primarily do interviews and group chats, so I use one lav (MKE2) and a boom mic (Sanken CS-M1) plugged straight into the camera. Most of the time, though, I benefit from the wireless transmitter/plug-on to place the mic/boom close to …

I believe these are relatively new in that last year or so? I picked up one recently at a discount. Always looking for new ways to get even better reception. For omni reception, I have tried bowties, homemade dipoles, lectro dipoles - i cant explain the science behind it but this antenna works better in my setup than any other omni antenna i’ve tried. My only complaint is it is flimsy and fragile but i mount it on my bag with a clamp and use it with multiple wires on talent when on the move trying to keep it protected from damage. Using a nova with zmt’s mostly. The biggest bonus is i have always had trouble with zmt’s on talent mounted upside down with antenna pointed do…

Hello all! Any tips, tricks, or suggestions for packing the Cinela Kelly for air travel? I have been trying to limit the amount of luggage I bring on the past few travel doc shoots (hoping to stay self sufficient with multiple company moves each day), and have ended up filling the Kelly with other rain gear (aquapacs, poncho, etc) to keep it from deforming before stuffing it in my checked suitcase. Unfortunately, it’s already starting to look a little wonky… How do you travel with this expensive piece of foam? Thanks for your time!

Hello all - will be covering an athlete in women's soccer for a practice, they want a lav mic on her. Transmitter is a Lectro SSM. I've got an array of waist, ankle and thigh straps, and small pouches. I'm most interested in the best transmitter placement option that will interfere the least with her ability to do her job on the pitch. The thigh and ankle are out of the question. I'm assuming I'll be running into a sports bra on the torso. I have silicon covers for the SSM to help protect from sweat I see the Ursa backstrap (URSA Backstrap - Trew Audio) , but I'm skeptical on how comfortable that is wrapping under the arm…
