With the addition of the Hot Box, I think I can mount a LittleLite with a right-angle 4-pin XLR from it that will be positioned just right. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/463210-REG/Littlite_6XR_HI_4_6X_RHI4_Hi_Intensity.html#specifications My question is, do I have to make a special cable or adapter for it, or can I plug it directly into the Hot Box? Here's a link to the .pdf of the wiring diagram: http://www.littlite.com/techinfo/XRSpecC.pdf Think I'll be happier with the 4-pin connection than I have been with the BNC I've been using. More robust, for one thing. Thanks, Jan [who knows enough about electrical wiring to know she doesn't know the an…

Hey Guys, So, I was trying to record a timecode audio track on my Pro Tools rig and noticed that the output timecode signal on the 744T is always on. Even in record run mode, it is still outputting a signal. When I read it on a slate, it reads a static number, but when I plug the signal into an audio track, there is an audio signal coming out. Does anyone know if this is normal? Is the 744T just outputting the same number over and over? I had thought the audio signal would just mute when dropping out of record, but apparently it does not. Am I missing something? -Matt

I have been looking for or thinking of making a switched phase reverse patch panel - xlr or otherwise? So that inputs can be instantly switched phase reverse? I've googled but have not been able to find anything ready made. Might not be a good idea with 48v phantom power - so dynamic inputs only perhaps, I'm not sure? Any thoughts about this please? thanks Mick

Hey Gang, Haven't posted on here in awhile. Been busy with work. And before I post my question, yes i've phoned Zaxcom and they have given me the usual I don't know answer. When I'm using my Fusion, just as a mixer, so cabling from the Hirose to camera. Camera is a Panasonic HX900. I've always used the 5pin audio out for monitoring with my 442. With the Fusion monitoring from the 5pin is almost impossible, its WAY to hot. And yes I've tried playing around on the fusion to fix it. And yes I've gone into the camera settings and made sure the 5pin output is a -3db. However, I haven't really noticed this issue if I use the headphone mini-jack. I realize I could…

Hello to you all, A new employer of mine shoots a lot of music videos and has asked me to come on board to do sound on them in the future. I'm more than happy to be working on any format and will be glad to go, but I have never had to deal with playback before so I'm a little out of my depth right now. I'm going to be as vague as I can and ask what peoples preferred set-up would be? Software or hardware based? I'll (hopefully) be able to work from a laptop based set-up if I can as I'd like to travel/work as lightly as I could, but will be happy to bulk up if it means doing a better job and keeping myself in employment. Thanks for any information. Damien

I am considering the purchase of a Sanken CS3e. I always look for a bargain, but I can't find a used one anywhere. I see lots of used T power 416s and MKH 60s for sale. Is this mic such an asset to a kit that no one ever wants to give it up? Any replies appreciated.

So I am doing a job this week that is a two camera shoot. HDX200 and HPX170. I know those cameras support jamming to each other via firewire cables, but nothing that we can access. If I was going to send a camera a feed with a mono mix on one track and TC on the other, any idea what kind of pad I need on the TC side? Do I need any? I'm not going to get to play with the cameras till day one. I'm not sure it's even necessary, but if it is something easy to do, it might make somebody's life easier down the road. I'll be sending output from my Fusion through a Zaxcom hop (TRX900/RX900S) to one camera. If I feed the other camera, it will probably be a cable, or som…

So...it's June 15, 2010. Anyone willing to admit to still using freqs in the 700MHz band for wireless or IFB in an American city? Still clear? I haven't seen anything new there yet in the SF area...... Philip Perkins

So, When I look at the RF meter on the rx, with tx off, I see a substantial reading (75% ish). When I push the menu button, the meters drop down to almost nothing (which I assume to be the actual reading) Anyone else see this?

I have not been successful in jamming my SB-2a to A Ex-3. I've followed instructions in the manual, talked to other sound mixers, tried to different cables that I know work. Nothing.... Something Im missing. I am feeding it my wireless Zaxcom so all is well with Audio getting to the Camera. Might be the Camera I guess? Stumped Brian H

Hi I’m looking to build some new eng break-away cables and I want to use a 5 pin for the return keeping separate left right return so I can monitor the split return. I am using a neutrik 8 pin quick disconnect. In the past I used three pins of the 8 pin for left send, three pins for right send, and two pins for the return in which I summed the left and right together. So my question is when using an 8 pin how do I configure the pins. I am assuming I use two pins for hot and cold left send two pins for hot and cold right send, then I am assuming that tie the send grounds together giving me five pins. Then what do I do with the return – assuming I…

Hi all, I am after a mic for interior use. I use a Schoeps CMIT and I was thinking about getting a MKH 8050 or a CMC641. I would be using these on a boom so I would get the filter modules. I have used both these mics in the past, but I haven't had the ability to a/b them. Are there any people that own both these mics any can give me their preference? Thanks Steven

I have a job coming up where I need to put 4 or 5 Lectrosonic receivers in a bag. Someone mentioned to me that placing multiple receivers in a bag close to each other can de-sensitize the receivers a bit, causing a decrease in range. Is this true? And if so what can I do about it? Is there an optimal bag layout for multiple receivers in the same bag? I will be using block 25 and 26 and block 21 for my camera send. I also will have slight separating of all the receivers in the bag. Basically a piece of thin foam so the chassis of the receivers don't touch each other. Thanks in advance Bob

I'm considering adding a MicroTrak II as a backup "bit box" for my FR-2, and am going to need to go from the 3-pin XLR Digital Out on the FR-2 to the RCA plug S/PDIF in... Can I use a cable like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/353774-REG ? Or- will I need an adapter to handle the conversion to S/PDIF? TIA - John

I recently bought a AJA Digital to Analog converter (AJA HD10C2) so I can use my analog monitor with cameras with HDSDI/SDI Video outs. I am now considering buying a HDMI to SDI/HD-SDI Video converter (AJA HA5). The tech at AJA told me that with some but not all DSLR cameras that I will be able to see the video on my monitor until the DSLR camera goes into record mode and at which point I will loose the video to my monitor. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this and with which DSLR cameras. Thanks, Andy

Hi, Regarding AA batteries.. any reason not to store them loose in a bag? I tend to put what I need for a week (maybe 20-30count) in a small zippered pencil bag and call it a day.. never had a leak or combustion or anything like that. I guess I figured due to the axial design of AA battery the odds of the contacts coming together in a way that would be hazardous was slim to none.. 9volts get special attention towards the terminals, I've had them start to heat up in my pocket before.. lesson learned.. Do I need to treat AA's the same way?

I have recently come across this ICOM receiver and was quite impressed by the fact that it can tap into almost any wireless frequency. A colleague showed me his and I sceptically tuned it into a Sennheiser G2 and Lectro UM400 to find that the signal reads well. I was wanting to find out what you guys think about using it as an IFB or a directors monitor as there would be no need to purchase a separate transmitter. The cost is very appealing and in these economically retarded times, it may be quite a good system to invest in.

I'm rewiring the bag for the production company I work with often. I have four UCR 100 receivers and the matching transmitters. I've been using a loom that I made that had the following wiring. xlr: pin two hot, pin one jumpered to pin three, pin three shield. 3.5mm ts: (I'm actually using a trs but only using tip sleeve) hot to tip, shield to sleeve. This gives me plenty of gain but seems hissy to me. My research on both Lectro and Sounddevices sites doesn't give much info. I have a Lectro adaptor cable with the 100 ohm and 4.67k ohm resistors to compare against http://www.gnarlywireless.com/product_accessories/PDFs/mc100xlr_cable.pdf but with that cable I have t…

Having a strange issue with my 205's and a Panasonic Varicam... I am running the 205d's as a wireless hop to the Varicam, or really any camera recently that I'm working with i.e. XD, HDX900, etc...Mostly ENG run and gun type stuff. The only camera I have issue with is our Varicam. A few months ago while covering an NBA game, the 205's died while rolling...lost power all together. Fresh battery and nothing unusual as far as circumstances go. Unplugged the Hirose powered down the camera and still no power. Ended up tethered for the rest of the night... This happens randomly with no warning at all. Macie had the camera on their bench to test and ran power to le…

If anyone is using them, ie neumann, sennheiser or schoeps, I'm interested in hearing opinions about performance and if they are viable for field use( bulk of external power unit without a 788 or programing unit, speed of setup, etc). I cam across this article http://www.ejvaudio.com/docs/MicPaper.pdf What I've gleaned is that, without a preamp, there is less self noise/coloration and if you record a signal at a low level, there is no detriment when raising it in post. Additionally, there is no frequency loss down the cable. With the advent of DSP algorithms in the superCmit these microphones are starting to look more interesting to me and what I'm looki…

Hi all, Has anyone had any experience shooting with this camera, I have a job on Wed that we are using 2 of them and I got a call from post today to talk about a few things, it does a 24bit audio recording that post would like to use as a master? Any fan issues, this seems like a newer version of the F35 that I have worked with before, it is using the same back panel/controller interface. Anyway, thanks in advance for any help.
