I just started a 30 day reality shoot and have been amazed how well the Zaxcom wireless hop performs. "I am very happy with smqv Tx and the absolute convenience of using SR" But back on the point... Running along side 28 smqvs lectros, the Zaxcom is really impressive. The only complaint I have is the battery life of the RX900. Using energizer lithiums I got about 1:30minutes today. That can not be right.

Hi. Working with the HPX 170 for the first time today. Have a lot of experience with various Pani cams, but not this one. Will be strapping a dual sra rx onto the Pani. and running xlr into input 1 and input 2. I'm wondering if any of you know of any ankle-biters I should be aware of since this is my first time with this camera. Are there internal menu settings I should look out for? for example, I see in the manual for the hpx 170 mic level auto control, do I need to disable that, or is that just for the on board mic? Thanks much! John

Does the Nomad record pre fader or post fader? Or does it have an option to do either one?

At NAB Zaxcom unveiled a new feature that combines Zaxnet and the QRX100 receivers in their first attempt at real time frequency hopping to counteract the new FCC approved 'White space' devices. The way it works - You need a dual channel QRX 100 receiver. One of the channels is the audio receiver. The other is used as a full time scanner. It scans the entire 35 mHz band looking for open spaces. When it finds a better frequency than the one you are on, it instantly changes the frequency of the receiver and transmitter to that frequency. It does this on the fly, so my guess is there is enough buffer to cover audio in the fraction of a second that the frequency is …

hi, i'm buying my first fusion12 and i'm looking for np1 batteries too. i'm in italy and i'm having some troubles finding idx batteries at the local stores, so i'd like to ask you if someone experienced with other np1 brands on the fusion. i'm also worried about their size, since i've heard that some np1 batteries, for example, won't fit regularly in deva slot being slightly thicker... and i wouldn't buy batteries that i couldn't use. thanks..

I understand that at least some of the Nomads will have an auto mixer built in. I am curious how this works and how it is implemented. Is it something similar to the Dugan algorithm, or more like the "switching circuit" of the Shure SCM810? Thanks, Tom

Hi there. Has anyone used the AT 1800 dual wireless system as a camera hop? In particular, an AT 1820 system (two end plugs). I am using a SD 302 for a mixer. I know it's not ideal, but it's the best I've got at the moment. I've done some basic tests with it and am not really overwhelmed by the sound quality. There seems to be a fair amount of "noise"... but I was feeding an older camera (GL2) using a beachtek. Is this system simply not good enough or am I not using it properly? Has anyone used this system much? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments.

Hi all. Having an issue with my QRX100 w/IFB and TRX's. I have sent this same issue to Zaxcom (for those of you that will mention it) but I often find the help on here to be just as good and sometimes even a little speedier - no offense to Zax who usually have an excellent service response...anyway. I have my QRX set up to remote control my txs, and it mostly works great. I have them set to the correct frequency, the group number on all 3 devices is set to 5 (I read it should not be 0 or 1, 5 seemed neat) and the unit numbers on the txs are set to 001 and 002 respectively. The QRX is set to remote control UNIT ID=ALL. The units jam to timecode fed to the QRX or set …

I routinely went to format one of my 32Gb Transcend compact flash cards using OSX 10.6.6 disk utility - selecting MS DOS FAT (which means FAT32) and it wrecked it. I was formatting it for use in my 744T which is happy with OSX FAT32 formatted cards. I know the Fusion has it's own version of FAT32 and is not happy with other versions. There seems to be several flavors of FAT32 which I've never seen an explanation for? Anyway the card cannot be mounted in OSX, cannot be seen by Windows 7 disk administration, will not mount on SD or Zaxcom Fusion (FAT32 mirror/backup slot) Just tried formatting it in the MARF slot just but says 'formatting - please wait until format is …

I'm finding I have to crank a lot of gain into my MKH8000 series to get useable levels out of them, even when I'm only 6-10" away from the mouth - I'm talking the trim pot on the SD302 up to nearing the 60 notch (full). Is this normal, to those of you who own them/used them? Same with the Oktava MK012-3, but the noise floor on the mic is atrocious, whereas I get away with turning the 8000 up that high. Is something wrong here?

Potentially dumb question, but for whatever reason its just not getting through the noggin this morning... I have always supplied polyphonic files to post, but a new production have requested monophonic files individually track named. I assumed that if I named the tracks, they would write with that track name when split into mono, but instead they are just coming up with the track number. Is there a way to automatically name the individual files with the track name when writing as monophonic? I don't want to have to import everything into a laptop at the end of the day (nor really is there time with the nature of the production). And just as an aside, how a…

Hey guys, I was at the local soundmart and decided to pickup a CL-Wifi to see if it would make some things in the 788 workflow a bit easier. So far it functions as advertised but I noticed a couple things with it that were bugging me. Not sure how it functions with the iPad. I'm on an iPhone here (which I'm probably getting rid of for non-sound reasons). The track arming feature overrides settings in one of the already existing "Custom Route" options in the machine instead of creating its own routing profile. This could be a tedious thing when trying to switch to a situation in which you'd use the Custom Routing option it overrode. The program seems to get lo…

Dear All, I am thinking to purchase a Zaxcom wireless system, but I would like to know any first-hand experience of it from anyone of you. From Zaxcom's home page, it seems its wireless system quite bulky. Also, I heard that it is quite "delicate." But I may need to use it for very cold and wild locations. Otherwise, it seems Zaxcom has the best sound quality and very secure backup idea. Also, how do you compare Zaxcom to Lectrosonic, which seems has a performance in terms of longer distance between the receiver and transmitter. Any advices? Thanks. King

From a RED guy posting to CML, specifically about Scarlet (their smaller camera) but apparently also about Epic: === All new RED camera bodies a.k.a "brains", use two 3.5 mm jacks to provide Mic level balanced audio inputs. It's a space driven choice- there is nowhere near enough internal volume available to use XLR connectors in such a compact camera form factor. But if you want to use XLR's, attach a PRO I/O Module; which in addition to extra monitor outputs offers two full size XLR connectors for Mic or Line level inputs, plus the option of four channel 24-bit, 48KHz AES digital audio input. Stuart English Workflow Wizard RED Digital Cinema ==== Alas, it'…

Hello folks, I recently acquired a used Cooper CS104 to pair with my sound devices 744T and I'm looking for the right bag. I just demo'd the Petrol 601 and it is slightly too small and the 602 is way to big, so as I see it the following are my options: Porta-Brace AO 1.5X http://portabrace.com/productA-AO-1.5X Porta-Brace AO 1.5X http://portabrace.com/productA-AO-2X Porta-Brace AO Flex http://www.portabrace.com/productB-AO-FLEX2EX Porta-Brace AO B4 http://portabrace.com/productA-AO-B4_5 I really appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks, Michael

I recently bought a Shoeps LC60 barrel filter that is inline with my boom mic. I've been using the LC60 for a while in my bag without problems until the other day. This was the first time I used the filter inline with my 416 while I was using my Zaxcom goldline Tx as a camerahop. The problem is that RF from the Zaxcom Tx is getting into the LC 60 filter. When I remove the LC60 from the chain the RF problem goes away. So it appears that the RF is getting into the filter. My cabling goes from my 416 to my internal K-Tek cable to a short coily cable to the LC60 to a small jumper cable that goes into my 442 mixer. The right angle connector that goes into my 416 is wire…

Have my eye on a couple: http://www.server-rack-online.com/shpo1918.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/209345-REG/Middle_Atlantic_SSL.html The first is exceptionally robust, which appeals. Quite expensive. The Middle Atlantic shelf, much less so, but affordable. I want one to hold 788t and various small gear, another upon which I can write. This looked interesting, but I don't think the dimensions will actually fit an SKB case -- I think it's just a velcro-enabled insert, and not a 'shelf' at all: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=287880&is=REG What are you guys using? Thanks…

After power up, the -10, -20 LED blinks green 4 times to indicate 400 Compatibility mode. Then they blink alternating red. I get no audio signal, no pilot tone to the 411A. Any ideas what's wrong with it? Am I overlooking something? I will call Lectro in the morning but I would like to ask here as well. Thanks in advance.

Hey Everyone, Just read aobut the new Lectrosonics Quadra IEM unit they are introducing. It's based on the D4 system you may have worked with or heard about. See it here: http://www.lectrosonics.com/Press-Releases/lectosonics-debuts-quadra-digital-wireless-monitor.html So hear are my thoughts on how this could be a really cool product for us in the Film / TV business. (oh and please try and control yourself Senator, I may actually ask a few questions in this post without calling the manufacturer !!! gasp !!) I already use a D4 in my setup. Tx in my bag (or Cart) and D4 RX on the camera. So i Could send a mix on 1 or 2 channels to camera, my Directors …
