I thought I saw a photo either here or on one of the FB pages of a multi-bay slot-loading charger for 6 or 8 NP-50 (Fuji) batteries as used in Lectro SSM transmitters (and the new little Zaxcom one, I think). Search as hard as I can - I can't find it again. Does anyone have a link? Thanks, Nick

Hey Guys, I'm going through my stuff and was testing out my CL-8. I'm sending tone to my 788 that it's attached to from my lectro receiver. When I adjust the fader on the CL-8, I hear some kind of digital or harmonic artifact while the tone is running. I thought it might just be in the headphone circuit or something, but I did a test and it is being recorded. Here's a sample of what I'm talking about: https://file.io/zu2r3cSp6ufU Does anyone know if this is normal with a CL-8? The only thing i can think of is that it's adjusting it in steps instead of like an analog fader and causing some sort of harmonic to be audible. When I adj…

Hi, can the Lectrosonics UT700 handheld work with any other Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid receiver in the same block besides the UDR700? I'd like to use it for bag work with a UCR411.

Hi all. I’ve been wanting to add filtering to my set up for a while and am considering a few options. Currently running a PSC RF multi with SRCs and a RF Venue diversity fin. 12ft, and 50ft cable runs for cart use only. Performance has been adequate, but I’ve seen a lot of ppl post they haven’t been super happy with this combo, and I think I could be getting more out of it if I was blocking out unwanted rf noise. I’ve been thinking of either upgrading my distro to the audio wireless DADM (built in filtering + ability to have an active antenna on a single channel, or both - unlike the rf multi) Or adding the new audio wireless rf filter/bo…

I getting more into cart mixing and am finishing my cart. I am selecting my monitors at the moment and wants to stay away from 19’ rackmounts to keep my cart light and small. I thinking to get 2 very bright 7” field monitors and add a 3rd 5” “that I already own” when I need it. Here is my question: When VTR sends SDI down the cart do they just loop through lets say 4k DCI 23.976 or do they down convert to 2k or 1080P. There are many monitors to choose from but SDI INPUT is up to 2k signals. DO you have your own converters? How often do you get wireless receivers?

Hello, this is the second shoot in a raw where I encounter issues with Battery eliminator from Lectrosonics from rental house equipment. Woobling noise in the receivers. Both problem solve by switching to batteries. Strange thing is that the transmitters and their problematic battery eliminator were both different models. Last month an old UM200 with its 9v batelim (rx R1a) and this month a more recent SMDWB and its SM batelim (rx IFBlue) Both almost similar noise although much louder on UM200. It happened at any voltage stage of my power system: switt VLock 180wh on vlock plate and xlr4 output. The vlock plate output is point to point here but it also provide …

Hey everybody, I was just thinking about a small issue I come across almost everyday while shooting with my 788/CL-9 Setup. Every now and then, let's say 2 out of 5 times, the CL-9 doesn't power up when I turn on the recorder. So no LEDs, faders and knobs don't do anything. It is connected though because when I unplug the USB cable, it says that the CL-9 got disconnected. When I plug the USB in again, it usually works fine. Sometimes I have to do it twice and sometimes the CL-9 mutes all the outputs after booting. I don't think it's a flaw that only my setup has because I had the same issue last year on a different 788 with a different CL-9. Since I'm pre…

I picked up a used MKH416 and suspected it was fake. I read this is a real problem. I don't have another legit one to compare, so I contacted Sennheiser with the serial number. They said that number was indeed assigned to a mic manufactured in 2017. I hesitate to share the number. But I thought it sounded off so I opened it up and this is what I found. Looks nothing like the photos of circuits I have seen online. A black tube where the copper housing should be. Machining, painting, and even serials look clever and precise. Comments? I bet this same number may be used on other fakes.

Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum, and I mostly do small crew documentary work, so plenty of experience with sound, but by no means anywhere close to an expert. I just bought a brand new Sanken COS-11D with a HICON 3.5mm locking Sennheiser termination. For the life of me, I can’t get the connector to lock onto a SK-500 G4 body pack. Tried it with a SK-100 G3 and it works, but no luck on the G4. The provided MKE2 that came with my G4 locks onto the G3 and G4 no problem. The retailer I bought from has sent me two different COS-11Ds now, and they both have this problem with the HICON connectors. Also, the Sanken COS-11Ds both work and sound great, they just won'…

Hi all, This is my first post here -- I'm actually a classical music recording engineer, but since my main hardware device is a S.D. Scorpio, I figured this might be a better forum for finding some informed opinions: Occasionally I find myself working on projects that involve sound reinforcement or additional electroacoustic material where it's very useful to have the mixing functionality offered by the 8-series recorders. Recently I have been thinking of getting a better control surface for my Scorpio so that I can use proper faders and be able to more quickly and efficiently mute channels etc. Out of the options currently available,…

Hi everyone, I need some info urgently about the PSC sound cart, as I could not bring mine so I am renting one on location for a feature but I will get it very last minute. It is a full cart (similar to SC-4 listed on B&H but much older). The PSC website is down or not accessible from where i am. I have the 18x17 inches dimensions of the shelves but not the heights available. I want to buy tomorrow morning plastic crates that will fit and/or have some wood ones made. What are the heights between the shelves? I know shelves 2&3 might have height adjustable but between what min and max? Thank you so much in advance for those who can res…

It is great to see that Aaton have announced the Cantaress at NAB. This will be their new full size fader panel to use with the Cantar X3. The announcement comes just as the Cantarem 2 compact fader panel is about to hit the sound shops. Cantarem 2 has 12 faders, is no wider than the Cantar X3, using Aaton's magnetic fader system but perfected to a smoothness that rivals P&G by running super comfortable faders on polished steel rails. I used a pre-production Cantarem 2 at the BSC show in London a couple of months ago and it was impressive. I was at Aaton in Grenoble two weeks ago and the production version has had some tweeks that make the faders really silky smooth. …

Aaron ‘Cujo’ Cooley, C.A.S. has posted an incredibly thorough review of the Zaxcom RX-8. I am re-publishing this here for our JWSOUND members. It is a long read but well worth it. Cujo has a lot to say about the RX-8 because there is so much it can do in a really small package. Test Driving the Zaxcom RX-8 By a Non-Zaxcom User… Aaron ‘Cujo’ Cooley, C.A.S. March, 2022 Back in 2020, during the early days of Covid, my colleague, fellow sound mixer, and good friend, Scott Beatty and I made a couple of videos where we talked about Dante integration in the modern set-sound workflow. These two videos seemed to jump start …

Hello, I am about to purchase a set of IFBlues and a T4 transmitter. The seller (JBK audio) has rightfully convinced me to buy the VHF range rather than any UHF band. We are not used to it much in France but everything he said makes sense (eg: superior range than UHF, no worries about crossing band with my UHF wireless mikes, etc..) The only drawback for me seems to be the length of the antenna: 38 cm. On cart it is fine but I always have my cart set in a way that I can switch to bag very quickly, and I do most of the time features that require that. How really flexible is that antenna and can it and would it fit "circled" in the front pocket of my s…

Is there a portable transmitter, that would work in a location sound bag, for Sennheiser IEM? Doesn't have to be stereo, though that wouldn't be bad. I'm guessing the Senn IEM's do not work with G3 transmitters, but have not had the gear to try. Thanks

The use of GNSS syncing has been discussed here before, but in the context of SMPTE linear time code... Ignoring completely for a moment the LTC format, what if camera and sound recorder manufacturers used the GNSS 1PPS signal to simply write the start and finish times into metadata tags? UTC timestamps can be written to the nearest hundredth of microseconds. Couldn't that information be used in post-production to solve syncing and drifting issue? Sound tracks could be padded or chopped before being merged to video (and <hack!> time stretched if needed). Frame rate settings on devices would be irrelevant and no more jam sync needed! When sat …

Hi fellow sound people! I'm looking to upgrade my wireless game as I'm starting to get more involved in the narrative world. I've used the g4 ew500 modded system up to this point, and I'm looking at a reasonable budget alternative that still allows me an upgrade path if work keeps coming my way. For the receiver I'm looking at wisy mcr54, very solid piece of equipment. For the tx I was looking to get second hand sennheiser 5212-ii's because of the size, bandwith, compatibility with mcr54 and PRICE. An all-wisy setup is too steep of an investment for me right now, but I haven't tried this TX and in my area I don't have any rental or colleagues that …

Curious to know if anyone has owned both and if there’s a difference in technology enough that the 200 version might be the better investment? Other than physical differences, factory support for repairs etc. I am looking at specs in manual and is it correct the ifb100 is 100mw output and the ifb200 is 10.4mw output? Waiting on confirmation from Glenn as it might be a typo.

I had a few but always very annoying issues with my CL-12 connected with 688. It had a low power issues, firmware update requests, it was slowing down my Wingman to unbearable speeds. Is some of you using the CL-12 with Scorpio ? Do these troubles remain or was it resolved ? Many thanks for any feedback.

Had a question about the antenna load indicator on the comtek BST 75 - when I connect my RG8X cable to an external antenna (whip or sna) I have the indicator flashing, and in the manual it states the following: ANTENNA INDICATOR: Flashes when transmitter detects coaxial cable shorts and open conditions, bad antenna load. When I plug the bnc whip directly into the unit it’s solid and doesn’t indicate a bad antenna load. I will say even though the indicator is flashing with an external antenna performance seems to be normal, but I’m curious if anyone has more info about what it means by open conditions / bad antenna load, and if there’s anything I ca…

Can anyone here point me to a source for replacement foam windscreens for Deity's w.lav Pro and w.lav Micro? I keep losing the damn things, and attempts to find replacements online have resulted in a lot of oversized windscreens. Deity send me a few the last time I asked, but have so far been unresponsive to my emails and support requests. Thanks! Louis

There isn't much discussion online about Glensound products that I can find, so I thought I'd ask? If anybody here is using them. As I'm considering the Glensound AoIP22: https://www.glensound.co.uk/product-details/aoip22/ https://www.gothamsound.com/product/dante-two-channel-interface

Hello everyone, I hope you are well. I have this problem: The phantom power of my 633 does not want to work, it always works without problems, it has not been hit or anything, I always take very good care of it. All other functions work perfectly, the TA3 and XLR inputs work with wireless microphones without problems (Sennheiser G4). The phantom power only works on 12V with a Rode NTG3 microphone but when I connect a DPA microphone it does not work on either 12V or 48V. I have measured the XLR inputs (1,2 and 3) with a multimeter and it shows 10V when it is in 12V phantom mode and it shows 4V when it is in 48V phantom mode. I've done a hard…
