I thought perhaps it would be better to continue discussion of the new RX12 in its own thread, rather then in the NAB '14 thread. Quoting Glenn: I have some questions about some of this functionality: For remote control via Nomad, I'm assuming this is done VIA Zaxnet only? Perhaps there will be a separate "remote control" with full-time monitoring and dedicated hardware controls at some point in the future? For "remoting", is there some kind of single connection for audio or are we talking about a large multi-conductor snake? Is there some kind of way to get more then 8 channels of AES audio into a Zax recorder, or would we have to add analog lin…

The Zaxcom website now has a fairly extensive explanation of NeverClip technology as is used in Nomad recorders. It's a good read and there is an audio file demo posted that demonstrates the extended dynamic range provided by NeverClip technology. NeverClip Explained NeverClip Demo (audio) Even though I put both links here, I would suggest for anyone who is still not sure what NeverClip is, should do the reading first before listening to the demo.

Just got the new thin cable DPA 4063. It has RF problems with digital zaxcom Trx900la. I have old 4063s with the old thicker cable and they are all fine. Anybody else having a similar issue?

Just got the AudioLTD 1010 digital system. Thanks to reddingaudio and AudioLTD for sending me the system for testing. I will take my time and really test it against Zaxcom digital wireless. It is a little more complicated to test on the field without the TX recording to cover my ass so don't expect anything in the next 2 weeks.

so I was requested by Rado to do a test of frequency scans on block 21 with my Nomad on and off, I did the same with block 24. Bloc 24 with Nomad powered off Block 24 with Nomad powered up Block 21 with Nomad powered off Block 21 with Nomad powered on nothing special done with this test. bag was sitting on my kitchen counter, Nomad switch off, turned on BDS and powered up receivers and did a scan. Then turned on Nomad and re-scanned. Looks to be some RF in block 21 after the power up. Not sure if Glenn has anything scientific for this. My SRa's are fairly close to the unit as you can tell from the photos and i could move them away…

I just saw this on Zaxcom's site --- looks like Zaxcom will be changing the game, again, when Deva 32 is released. Hopefully by NAB we'll get a look at this. ZAXCOM.COM

I got my first DPA 4098 (goosneck style) microphone today and I have been putting it through its paces. I already had glowing reports from Whit Norris and Jan McLaughlin, who both have these amazing little microphones. Whit has been using them with Lectrosonics transmitters and loves them, Jan has been using with Zaxcom transmitters and has not reported any of the anticipated problems with respect to the lower voltage supply from Zaxcom transmitter. The theory is that with lower supply voltage (they are rated to require 5 vdc and Zaxcom xmtr puts out 3 vdc) there would be an increase in self-noise floor and a decrease in overall headroom (dynamic range). So far, in the si…

Hi - I'd like this topic to focus on real and practical hopes for equipment we'd like to see in 2015, or perhaps 2016. Recorders. Mixers. Mics. Wireless. Anything. Practical and real hopes. I'd like to have a compact linear fader panel from SD for 16 channels of analog audio from line level sources, which will feed into 970. If this details into something silly, I'm going to delete the thread. So please let's keep this sensible. Robert

Nomad as a mixer.... 1 2 3 4 7

For those with real world - tho limited, I'm sure - experience with the Nomad: how realistic would it be to use the Nomad as an ENG 4 or 6 channel mixer to camera, in addition to recording ISO tracks internally? Could I eliminate my mixer from the bag and go with just a Nomad and wireless setup?

Today, at Gotham Sound's Bagging Rites event, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Ofer Menache from Orca Bags, and the opportunity to check out their product line. Here are some pictures: Orca Bags: OR-30 (front), OR-32 (back left), OR-34 (back right): Waistbelt: OR-30 (for small recorders [Maxx/633]) + Waistbelt: OR-30 in a Pelican 1510: OR-32 loaded with Nomad + FP8: OR-32 with Nomad + FP8 + 6x UCR411A: My buddy Max Futterman wearing the loaded up OR-32 and harness: Myself wearing the OR-32: The small Orca handtruck: The Orca Quick Release System: So here are my overall impressions: All the Orca products I w…

It looks like we're not going to see Deva32 as soon as we had hoped, but when it does arrive, it looks like they have made a wonderful conceptual change --- a recorder that will not be confined to just cart based work as we saw last NAB. This is exciting (I hope more details are revealed but Zaxcom might save it all for NAB).

Read more: http://www.timecodesystems.com/products-home/ultrasync-one/ From official Facebook page, about connectors: "It's a mini COAX rather than a mini BNC. The official connector name is DIN 1.0/2.3 and is an off the shelf connector available from most electronics hardware suppliers. Two cables are provided in the box to BNC (for timecode and genlock) and more will be available."

So, I just wanted to check up and see if people are still enjoying using their TL-40's and 801's/ 802's? How are they holding up? Well built? Sounding good, working fine? I'm asking cause last spring there was lots of talk about people receiving faulty mics (myself included), and lots of problems, but some seemed very pleased. Have they got it sorted out by now? Is it worth taking another look at these mics?

Here is my review after a great day of work. I am going to start with the charger. I really like the Aluminum case with locking connector. I have had 4 IDX chargers fail in the past. The AudioRoot charger is small size and perfect for traveling. The strong aluminum case will withstand a lot of abuse. The LCD screen with charging percentage is great. It gives me clear indication on the charging state left compared to the IDX charger which leaves me almost clueless. The battery cup is small and locks the battery very firm. In my current setup I have the NP1 cup on the bottom of the bag. I had a few cups that were a little loose and a small bump on the bottom of my b…

I was checking out the heavy bags post, and thought I would share my recently put together light weight bag. It's great for direct to camera Documentary / Reality style mixing. I replaced my 442 for the substantially lighter Mix-pre D. Channel 1 is my boom. Channel 2 the 411A RX. Channel 3 and 4 from the SR RX. D4 gets AES signal from Mix-Pre D. D4 acts as Camera hop and IFB feed (director gets Quadra IEM portable receiver) and I loose one more piece of equipment (comtek TX) from my bag. Petrol PS607 bag is just the right size. Whole bag runs off of a battery conveniently located under the mixer. Some days I need t…

Yesterday I found some interesting equipment authorizations on the FCC web site. They were granted in the last two weeks, and the information in the filings matches wideband versions of the SM transmitter, with references to both single (SMWB) and dual battery (SMDWB) packages. FCC ID search here: https://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid of particular interest were FCC IDs: DBZSMWBA1 DBZSMWBB1 DBZSMWBB2 DBZSMWBC1

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT I've seen these on ebay and wondered if anyone has any experience of them or anything similar, as my 520Mah iPowers aren't lasting very long in the Lectro UM450s I'm currently trialing, it may be I can't get a decent battery life from the UM450, and I have to try a different tx, but these might be worth a shot......

So lectrosonics I know you are about to release the WM. thanks I will take two 26's and two 21's. What's the next new piece of gear? My vote is for a big brother for the 788t, 71616t? It would be cool if it was cart format, perhaps the recorder is built into a control surface, all the features of the cl9 built in but for 16 channels. What do you guys think? Sound devices do you have any comments or ideas?
