Jeff Wexler posted a clear and informative reply to Prahlad Strickland's question about diversity reception. Read it here: I posted my question there, but as it was off-topic I've re-posted here so as not to derail the thread. Lectrosonics' SR manual reads: "...the two channels can be used together as a single receiver in "True Diversity" Ratio Mode for enhanced performance in some environments." My understanding is that in Ratio Mode, the dual receiver SR "favors" the audio signal from the receiver with the stronger signal from the transmitter. If Ratio Mode on the SR is a combination of antenna diversity and receiver diversity, how is it better than receive…

Hi i just bought a used CL9, first time working with it. Im finding very odd the way the trims works, cant find the correct setting of ENCODER MAX SPEED and ENCODER ACCELERATION. I have 24hours to returning it back, thats why i post it here. Sometimes if i add gain to an input with the trim of the cl9 it goes the other way, less db, im finding very difficult to adjust the proper gain. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

We had a good and informative discussion on another tipic lately about battery chargers (Maha-Powerex) and right now at Newegg.ca (hello Canajuns!), they're having a very good rebate for 3 days ont the MH-C9000 charger + 2700 mAH batteries. For those who might be interested... ;-) LinK: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817355014

I want to clean up the outside of an AKG 414 silver. It has a few light scuff marks and a light tarnish. I'd like to try a very gentle test with brasso first to see what happens. Any other recommendations for cleaning AKG silver finishes? thx John

Hi guys, I am curious about the way you organize your kit to lav actors. I usually find myself with the radio mic box in one hand, a belts' bag in another, my tapes around my wrist... and sometimes I go mic up the actors forgetting something... My transmitters are well organized in my cart but I think I should just put everything in a bag/case, well organized. I'm trying to figure out the most convenient set up for me to have everything at the same place. If you have some pictures it might help get a better set up and I'm sure it will be an inspiration to everyone! Thx, Renaud

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed somewhere else before. Just went thru the SD 744t manual, and I am still cofused as to what the difference is between the two formats. I could probably forge a guess, but need to know exactly which one I should be using and what the difference is. Also, another question came to mind today: are you guys generally running in free run time code or 24 hour time code? Thanks for any help -Greg-

recently had a chat with one of the local dealers in my area regarding my plans to acquire two wireless units from overseas forums. he warns me of the risk that many other wireless users in singapore faced when they import units frm overseas. many of the units re-sold in ebays and forums are found to have their serial number removed or scratched as they r believed to be stolen items. just like to find out where is this serial number found on the units? is it true lectro does not service units without proper serial numbers?

Maybe this has been covered but since I am able to vary the gain on an AES input (with channel fader not trim pot) to the bus I suppose this means it is going through an analogue stage before being tracked? Another observation is this: Feeding Ch. 6 in AES mode from a DAT machine I notice that the channel meter on the 664 runs about 8dB hotter than the levels on the DAT machine. Another artifact of the analogue stage? I thought AES protocol was 1:1 in terms of gain. Maybe differences in meter ballistics? Sony PCM R500 DAT machine.

Yesterday, Lectrosonics sent me back the very first SR/5P converted into a (*mostly) SRa /5P. (*I say mostly because there is one more modification coming; the external 5P connector (a.k.a “wartâ€) will be moved from the right side to the left so that it doesn’t interfere with Camera operators who shoot from the hip. The machining for that mod is still a few weeks or so out.) As you can see, the SR-SRa revision took the fixed antennas and swapped them out for the SMA style antennas we see on the UM style transmitters. This is being done for two reasons: first, some users wished that the antennas were shipping out 100% upright or had concerns that the fixed an…

Hi all! I have been working for a company producing educational programs for the last several years. I am now back out in the freelance world and wanting to set myself back up for field audio. I have a fair amount of experience from my freelance life prior to going to work for this company, but have a couple of questions for those kind souls who can share some info. So far I have put together the following gear (some purchased from JW Sound members - thanks!): Sennheiser MKH416P48 with Rycote blimp/deadcat Schoeps CMC641 K-tek 102CC Boom pole Sennheiser G3 lav set with butt plug Lectrosonics U195 lav set with Tram mic Countryman B3 …

Lectrosonics SSM B1, serial # 1626. Unit went missing in the hands of US Postal Service. It was mailed Dec 23 to go in for service at the Lectro mothership. It was sent Priority Insured, but the "insured" part is useless. Initial claim and two appeals all denied. Their explanation why: Since there is no initial scan of the label, their tracking system says they never received the package and hence there is no evidence of them ever having it. Lesson learned - never use USPS to send anything valuable.

Hi, Just bought a Harley, and the noise of the bike isn't the major issue, it's the noise of the wind even at normal speeds. I used to wear a full-faced helmet years ago, so wasn't as much of an issue. I used regular ear plugs today, which was great, but I want something a little more secure and reusable. Any suggestions? I know the union sponsors ear molds once in a while, but I want to be able to hear somewhat too for safety. Thanks, Robert Sharman

Ok so I recently purchased a pair of MK21 capsules and CMR cables to use for car scenes. (it's a collette to TA5 - http://www.schoeps.de/en/products/cmr). I used one with an SMQVa tx and it sounded weird. Boxy and phasey and with a distinct hiss, similar to a mis-wired lav on a servo bias tx. We tested it and found that if the antenna was touching the cable the hiss appeared (it wasn't quiet enough on set to hear if it sounded boxy also). However if the cable was held a certain way the capsule sounded wonderful. Sucks because I wanted to use the rig as a compact Schoeps plant, but now I'm gonna have to worry about proper position of the freakin cable? Reading…

I have been trying to get to the bottom of the difference between AES42 for Sennheiser/ Neumann and AES 42 for Schoeps. I have been in contact with both manufacturers and it seems that the AES protocol is interpreted differently for different manufacturers. It amazes me that the any DMI-2 unit for the Neumann is not interchangeable for the mini DA42 schoeps unit. As for one you need a sample rate converter as well. As this seems like it could be a software solvable issue. what is the feeling about lobbying both companies to see if, we can get both manufacturers to adopt a similar interpretation of the AES 42 protocol, or even if that doesn't …

Hi you all. I have a couple countryman B6 terminated in a TA5f connector for lectrosonic transmitters and I want to change them to Wisycom transmitter with a LEMO3 connector. The countryman is with the TA5f right now, and when you open the connector there´s two little resistors connecting some pin. I don´t know (and I didn´t find anything in google) if I have to keep those resistors if I change the connector to a LEMO3 for connecting them to a MTP40, or just soldering the cables following the pin code and removing the resistors. any help will be helpful thanks!

I recently sold an old MOTU PCI card that I was using for an audio interface with my computer. I need to buy a new audio card and I was wondering if anyone has used an AES card with their Deva/Fusion or another piece of gear for your I/O on your computer? I'm thinking I could pick up a Lynx AES16e card and have that output to my Fusion 12 then analog out to my speakers, thereby using the Fusion as the D/A converters and volume control. Has anyone set up a similar configuration and have it work well? I can't think of a reason this wouldn't work but perhaps I'm over looking something.

When I go to Gotham Sound, they show me these various options for ERX blocks, but I'm almost sure that there is only one block for this system, right? Bad website, I guess.

Thank you MIx for your Sound for Film and TV online event. Several of the production mixers mentioned extensive use earwigs. It sounded like they had a bushel of the things. Enough to cover a whole orchestra or dance troupe. (It sounded like this will be the next wave sound reinforcement for directors to be able to be inside the actors heads). I used to carry 6 of the Phonaks but now I'm down to just 3. Does any one know what the preferred replacements are? I heard there is a range extender for the Roger system that makes them useable, (but still a sizable investment). Is anyone using the Blue Tooth ones? Thanx David B
