Anyone own a wireless handheld that will play as late 1980s talk-show mic? The sample they have looks like the SM58 cylinder-type with a small antenna out the bottom. Hoping for one that's be able to be received with my Lectro block 21/22 receiver. Thanks, Robert (818) 304-3066

Hey gang, I think one of my Li-ion batetries went dead for my Sound Devices. It is an off-brand NP-F970 battery. I don't remember which one and the battery itself does not say. What happens is you install it into either a SD 702 or 744T and the light on the SD unit blinks for a bit then turns solid indicating that it is fully charged. When I disconnect AC, the unit will not power up. If I turn on unit with AC attached, then pull the AC, unit shuts off. My other 3 batteries work just fine. I am assuming that this is toast and I should just pitch it and get a new one. Anyone one have luck with re-conditioning these kind of batteries? Do people try to sa…

hey now, i'm looking for the best matching product number (was leaning towards rycote windjammer, but open to suggestions for anything that fits over the bd5 snugly/functionally). ideally i'd snag a couple of the w20 r1's, but am on a tight budget for the next few months. do not have a need for a blimp, as these will be run with various coincident pairings of various schoeps caps. bonus points for something besides the standard grey/black/beige (flair works fine for this situation/application also somewhat crunched on time for special ordering purposes, so more bonus points if someone has a pair to part with or…

Spent some time today looking for a Right Angle TA5F solution besides buying the Lectrosonics one (which isn't cheap) Does anyone have another source for this kind of connector? Thanks Nick

I've just heard that there seems to be a problem with the Fostex DV40 reading the BWFs from the Tascam P2. Everyone is mystified about why this is, but for now this is not the machine to use on a film shoot where the audio will be synced in a normal telecine bay. The use with any sort of video shoot or film shoot where the audio will be synced in a computer is fine. A bummer, to be sure. Philip Perkins

Hi, Can anyone share experience using EcoFlex 10 Low-Loss Antenna cable. It has really good technical references. I am curious how easy is to wrap a cable on a long distance if it's not on a reel drum. Thanks Noni

I did a 2x mic stereo 743 car to car rig that worked great in practice but had some squirrelly reception issues to work around. I was able to rig a sharfin antenna to the 743 and transmission was awesome. Curious if anyone here might have run into this as it seems not to be as cut n dry as it should be. 2x 414 modules in my nova. I noticed when setting a 414 module to stereo mode in my nova i had to reboot and follow a weird sequence in order to get it to work and also for a secondary wireless to work in the same module. 414 no1 - rx1 n rx2 all set to zhd96 and all 4x ch receivers show green = good reception 414 no2 - rx3 set to stereo and rx4 set to…

Has anyone had any experience with this themselves? I know that this is mostly a camera department concern for some, but sometimes they ask us to do it(not the case here, however). We are shooting on 2 HVX cameras recording to P2 cards, and the camera guys can't figure it out, even with the manualsand reference books. They can't find the proper menus to allow this to happen, and apparently just connecting a Firewire cable doesn't do it:) Anyone know the procedure and menus to make it happen? Or even a link? Thanks

Here's a question I can't find an answer to. Is anyone using the Cable Techniques RX Emergency with a Sound Devices 302 and a Sennheiser G3 wireless? Does the combination work or does the Senn not put out enough level to operate with the RX Emergency? The RX Emergency is supposed to need a line level input to work, according to Cable Techniques' specs.

Is there such a thing? A 1 or 2RU rack mixer with decent pres (at least 6) and direct outs, and, preferably the sort of flexible in/out/moni routing we've come to expect in mixer-recorders? I found a Yamaha box that was made for installs that did a lot of this (AC power is ok) but it required a laptop to run it. Ditto for boxes like RME/MH. I have a rack mixer that does a lot of this (Ashly 508) but it's too big for what I have in mind. Like, a very simplified 01v96 in 2 RU? thanks phil p

Hi folks, Here's the problem. I am sending audio to 2 X F900R's (via RF links) and the camera's are sending wireless video signals (1 on each cam) to the director. I am not sure what brand the video Tx's are, but they aren't Modulus, Canatrans or any other big name I've ever seen. These little buggers are adding low-level "hash" to the audio (at the best of times) and big noisy intermod at the worst of times. They are frequency agile (anywhere from Ch 14 to Ch 69) but they seem to cause me problems no matter where they are set (my on-camera Rx's are in the 525-550 mhz range, TV 23-27-ish) The possible clue to my solution is this...the units have 4 diff…

Apropos of recent posts about switching to NP-1s for powering a bag, here's another variation on a home-grown power harness, created for my son's bag. Goals were: modularity, powering the entire bag, hot-swappable batteries and flexibility in battery choice. After seeing various posts on globalmediapro v-lock batteries (Thanks, Oleg!) and looking at pics, we realized having an integral d-tap connector might make for a simple, fairly secure bag power connection. Turns out that two of their 95wh batts will fit comfortably in the back pocket of a Petrol PEGZ-2 bag. Not wanting to be completely locked in to the globalmedia batteries, we cannibalized an IDX a…

Having a strange issue with my 205's and a Panasonic Varicam... I am running the 205d's as a wireless hop to the Varicam, or really any camera recently that I'm working with i.e. XD, HDX900, etc...Mostly ENG run and gun type stuff. The only camera I have issue with is our Varicam. A few months ago while covering an NBA game, the 205's died while rolling...lost power all together. Fresh battery and nothing unusual as far as circumstances go. Unplugged the Hirose powered down the camera and still no power. Ended up tethered for the rest of the night... This happens randomly with no warning at all. Macie had the camera on their bench to test and ran power to le…

Hey All, I am doing a gig in a couple of weeks (all interviews) and they send daily mp3s to a transcription service. I own a Zoom H2 that meets the mp3 bitrate specs. They are shooting on a Canon C300 so LTC will be sent from that and I'll be tethered to the camera. I still want to record second system in case something goes wrong so I want to send a second output from my 442 to my Zoom H2 and record audible time code to one channel on it and the interview on the other on a mini-trs cable with an XLRF on the right channel for the program dialog (transcription specs require right channel) and a BNC on the left channel for the timecode. Unless someone sees so…

Hello, I need to pick up an extra wireless set, and was looking at 19 or 25 for use in Los Angeles. If I take these blocks to the UK (specifically Bristol area) and license them per use, would I have greater success with Block 19 or 25 in terms of the blocks being crowded blocks or not. Thanks, Robert

Question about my antenna setup. Here is the hardware - 2x SNA600a dipoles (set to block 21 length) - 2x 10' of RG58 antenna cable - Audio Wireless DADM226 antenna distro - 6 receivers, all a mix of SRbs and 411a's... (block 21 only) The question is: would there be any benefit to inserting a block 21 passive filter (such as a PF25) into the signal flow? Would it be redundant in any way? There are times when I have 8 channels going at once, as well as 2x IFBT4s (also block 21), so the frequency space can get a bit crowded. Thanks!

Hi There and greetings from Scotland There is a thread on the METACORDER Forum regarding High Freq Whistles, I have eMailed Jim at BLACKBOXVIDEO http://www.blackboxvideo.com/ . He has kindly eMailed me the following info, it is of interest to anyone who is powering multiple toys from one source. Hello Brian Thanks for your Email - good to hear from you. It is true that the problems of whistles when using equipment powered from switch mode supplies is caused by "hash" from DC-DC converters. This is an increasing problem as more and more equipment uses switch mode power supplies for light weight and improved efficiency. Put simply, t…

http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_prod_no=MR1000&category_id=3 This is a 1 bit/5.6MHz (Not KHz) recorder with a 40 gig hard disk. Is there any discernible merit in recording at this resolution? -Tom
