I was using my set up on some 2nd unit work the other day when I ran into a problem with what I believe is a phantom power supply issue and I was looking to see if anyone else had run across this. We were running 6-7 channels most of the day, one or two booms and 4-5 wires ( @ line level ) and during a set up change we noticed a high pitched whine coming from the boom channel and the mic was not passing audio at all. We heard this sound on both the PFL and the fader, re-patching the cable changed nothing, swapping the boom duplex and re routing the cable did not change it, power cycling the recorder did not change anything and switching from genny power to my 12 vol…

Howdy. I lav'd a coach the other day in 20 mph winds. I put a hairy fuzz ball on a tiny cage over a sanken cos2 (I think it was a cos2), and clipped it onto his sweatshirt collar on the downwind side - not so good. I then took a tram and taped it with mole-skin against the inside of his sweatshirt at sternum level, mic facing out - not much better. Anybody have any tips for lav'ing on windy days on open fields when talent is wearing a sweatshirt over a polo shirt? Thanks! John

Probably, it won't be on our shopping list, but I could not resist to post it here. When it’s not possible to have an experienced sound engineer on site, the d:vice™ can act as a ‘mini sound engineer in your pocket’. http://www.dpamicrophones.com/microphones/dvice?utm_source=DPA+Complete&utm_campaign=fe8196725d-WW%3A+d%3Avice+launch_25-April-2017_Broadcast&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_a141748c6e-fe8196725d-317003577&mc_cid=fe8196725d&mc_eid=f8806e2db6

I just got around to getting a PSC antenna distribution box this January and finally got it hooked up inside my mixer. I was testing the thing out and yes it helps with my Sennheiser paddles. I had this old Radio Shack antenna laying outside in the back yard for 15 or so years. I brought it in and tried it out. It took the power from the PSC and worked better than my paddles.

I just became aware of this announced product from Zaxcom ... I don't know why it hasn't made it into our community yet as it seems to be a real game changer, particularly for those working with 4 channel video cameras. I am posting the press release here so that we can think about what this new receiver is all about. I know everyone has been talking about the Lectrosonics 4 ch. receiver (and Octopak ... I like that name) but it looks like this new Zaxcom receiver does a whole lot of things in one box. QRX100 Four-Channel Camera RF Audio System At the 2009 NAB Show, Zaxcom will demonstrate a new technology concept, the QRX100 four-channel RF audio receiver. To take…

Not sure what happened with the original post but I did place it as the new site was coming to life....?? I did receive a few feed back posts, so the images were there.. for a while. Here is the repost of the images of some "handles" or wings that I made from 1.5mm aluminium angle ( 20mm x 12mm ) They are great for name bars and protection of the control surfaces on my 788t and my 552... Not shown in the images, I am starting to use "cup washers" to decrease the chances of the countersunk holes being pulled through by the screws.

HI all I'm contemplating the QIFB upgrade to my QRX100/TRX900 camera link, and I'm somewhat confused about a few of the functions and the required cables etc... To get the return audio into the QRX100 at the camera end, is that using the 5P XLR audio out (on ENG/EFP cameras) or the 3.5mm mini-jack to the audio input on the QRX? Is the return signal going to be a mono mix or can I select Ch 1 and/or Ch 2 separately? Can the QRX100 send back to the TRZ900 TC and return audio at the same time, or must I choose one or the other? At the TRX900 end, if I plug my cans into the audio/TC connector I can only get a mono mix of what my 788T is sending to the TRX…

Just had some great customer service from Portabrace- The plastic clips that attach the carrying strap to my 7 year old 442 case broke and I thought that I'd end up spending $45 on a new strap. After nearly going out to purchase a new strap I figured that maybe I should just purchase new clips instead. Sent a quick email to Portabrace to see if this was possible and if I could order metal instead of plastic. Not only can they supply the clips- they are sending them out to me free of charge and haven't even billed me for the shipping. Gotta love great customer service like that.

Those who have gone down this road, did you order Mcmaster part #2108T22 or 2108T25. It is the different between a .79" diameter or .87" diameter. The .79's would fit snuggly. Just curious how snug. Thanks!

I'm changing up the monitor situ on my cart (again). Adding a pullout screen and using a Decimator Design DMON-6S as a multi-viewer. There are a few monitor options out there, but only a couple that I've seen on rigs. The DataVideo and the one offered by Rackmountmart.com are two I've seen in use. Here are the links: http://www.datavideo.com/us/product/TLM-170PM http://rackmountmart.com/rmLCD/lcd1U17-018.htm If anyone has any experience with these, or any others (good/bad/indifferent) please let me know. Thanks and much appreciated.

I am trying to «compress» my soundbag to be as light and small as possible. I will be ordering a custom bag and i am now testing the «layout». Trying to make it really really compact. Is there a minimum distannce between rf receiver / antenna distrubution / bowtie antenna and sennheiser g4 camera hop? In other words will the performance be a lot better if there is 20 cm vs 5 vs 2 cm from say bowtie to g4 ? Any reason not to have the two rx receivers and the distro almost touching eachother inside a «pouch» ? See picture of my initial plan. (Antenna distro is filtered between 470 and 700 but my g4 hop is in the same range )

I just received my ZMT3-Phantom 2 transmitter with a QRX200 receiver to go along with my Nomad10, it's an exciting time! However I have a couple of questions about the general workflow. I've used the tone generator from the transmitter to set the trim coming into the mixer (currently analog, I'm having a digital cable made, but it's not yet ready) . I have the faders setup as normal (controlling mix), and I can, of course, adjust the transmitter gain from my Nomad, however I can't tell what the gain is set to from my mixer (which makes sense, as it isn't sending zaxnet info back to the nomad), but it makes it a bit more difficult to set levels. With a hard wired m…

Dear all, I would like to share with you a comparison I made between 2 M/S setups : 1) Sennheiser 8040 (M) + Senn MKH 30 (S) 2) Sennheiser 8040 (M) + Neumann KMA 20 (S) A noisy afternoon in a city park - recording was made yesterday. I used a mixpre-6 to record, low cut at 80. Format is 96k, 24b Since the Sennheiser mkh30 has more output than the Neumann (about 3-4db), I adjusted the gain of the mkh30 in post. mp3 and FLAC files here :https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aWROVVwZsagyaB8oTKPbR0cod5WA7-MT?usp=sharing I have more test recordings which I still have to decode. Once ready I will upload these…

Is anybody using the RF Explorer with OS Catalina 10.15.7 ? The RF Venue site says the latest software version for the Explorer is not compatable with Catalina and wants you to download VirtualBox to use it. I think you can also download Touchstone Pro and use it with the latest Software. If you are just using it to do a location survey the $50 for the Pro version might not make sense. I see there is the standard version of Touchstone which is free but seriously lacking in features. Any suggestions for a first time user would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I want to monitor the sound at the recorder. I have a monitor input on the Shure FP33 and was wondering if I should feed the mixer monitor input from the 1/4 headphone jack output of the Marantz PDM 617 or should I use the RCA. Basically if you were me and had this gear, what would you do? (please don't say sell it;) Thanks for your time, AKf

What (light, cheap) headphones work well with Lectro R1a RX? I've had cheapo Sony old-school "walkman" style foam ear headsets for my Comteks for decades--the "fi" of the headset seems to work well with the "fi" of the Comteks. But these same headsets sound really terrible on R1as. My regular Sony V6 types sound good with the R1as, but I'm not going to hand those out, and they are too big to carry many of them around. Something in between? What do you like? thanks

I've been trying to get a hold of them for months for a repair via email and phone with no responses whatsoever. Phone goes direct to voicemail, emails go unanswered. Maybe just a temporary shutdown due to COVID?
