Hi all, I wanted to know from other QRX100 owners if they have experience similar problems with their units as I have. I am currently using the unit in an ENG bag with a 442 (I do not trust the unit on a camera YET) power through a Remote Audio BDS system. Setting are single mode, LED lights on the side are off, power save mode is on, AES is off, normal mode, IFB off, no option board, and current firmware is 0.93. What has happened is the unit would be fine for a few hours; maybe 2 or 3 then the screen would lock up on the boot-up screen with the LED's lit up green. No audio would pass through. Solution would be to recycle the power. This has only happened onc…

So I thought I posted this a while back, but I guess I did something wrong. Anyway, I'm looking for any ideas of a good small mic pre I could use in my sound bag. I currently have an MM-1 but really I want something smaller. To give an idea of the setup I have a 442, and on occasion need an extra channel for a fourth lav. So I got an RX emergency, but find that using just the rx at +05 isn't quite enough of a signal. So I'm turning the knob on the RX emergency up all the way and I'm justgetting the level to where it needs to be, but don't have anymore room if the talent starts to get quiet again. And sometimes turning up the gain on the tx is not really a grea…

So I was watching the behind the scenes stuff on the latest Resident Evil film and saw this....... I realized it is customized for the film, but all the metadata and everything is great. Is this the Denecke/Zaxnet slate? I don't recall ever seeing any pictures of it.

We ran some tests on the newly-enabled audio recording aspect of the Arri Alexa today. I'm happy to report that they did a MUCH better job on sound than RED did. The Alexa allows a pretty wide range of trimming of the each channel of input levels (separately), using the whole height of the display in that mode. (I was able to trim up a -10 input to nominal level, for instance.) The audio output is similarly precise to set (or can be switched to a fixed level mode). When you go back to the "home screen" there is a small audio meter above the TC display--good for a confidence check. The audio plays out the TRS mini jack in E- to E and record--the sound was good but th…

I'd like to get a case for a mid-sized audio console that isn't going to fly or be toured, just used locally by me. So far all the cases I've found are standard ATA types, which weigh as much as the board. Since I have to hump this thing by myself I would love to find something lighter, at the expense of air-ship type ruggedness. The console is 40.5 long, 22 wide and 5.5 high. Any ideas? phil p

Hello, I am playing around with the cart, and am looking for a better solution to run laptop/iPod 3.5mm into a single XLR input on the board (summing L/R). I'll take advice as simple as making a 3.5mm TRS to XLR cable, or going through something like... http://www.fullcompass.com/product/368970.html What do you think? Robert

Does anyone know of any reasonably priced handheld frequency scanner/receivers that cover the entire frequency range of Lectro wireless systems, including the new frequency blocks? Either new units or ebay-able discontinued models would be fine. Thanks in advance. Dave Wendlinger San Francisco, CA

Anyone using one, comments, thoughts etc? Looks like a good alternative until Zax bring out the TRX700 replacement (?) that has zaxnet control. You can find it here: http://www.areitec.fr/areitec-pico48-phantom-power-adaptor-zaxcom-wireless-produit-395.html Thanks, Chris.

The other day I had a problem with stray RF from a video transmitter getting into my boom. Here is the situation I was on a shoot and the camera had a video transmitter mounted on it feeding video only – I’m not quite sure what frequency it was operating on because the label was missing but the camera operator told me it is in the UHF band. Anyway I was using my 416 on a pole, with an internal coiled cable, and a short coiled cable from the bottom of the pole into my mixer, and everything was fine. The issue I had was at one point I switched to Schoeps on the same pole and I started picking up occasional stray RF (a fairly loud hiss and a low level high pitch whine c…

Hello everyone, Before starting with my query I would like to say that I've been a passive member for a while now, and I truly enjoy this forum. It is extremely informative, and some times just plain entertaining. I’m currently working on a documentary show that takes place in an oil-drilling rig and I’ve been running into some issues with my wireless systems and I would appreciate it if some of you guys could weigh in on the issue. This is my setup: 552 mixer with 3 Lectro 211 and 1 205d, all on block 22. I am using 3 UM200c and 1 UM 250B. As a camera hop I am using 2 LMa sending to an SR5p into a Sony camera on Block 25. The place where I am…

Hey guys, I'm trying to get a Comtek 72 Timecode link working for a playback job. It seems every time the timecode signal stops (from the transmitter) IE... stop start, pause, etc... The Receiver turns off automatically. It also seems to turn off automatically if the volume is below 50%. Seems like perhaps its the same function that turns the unit off when you disconnect a pair of headphones. Has anybody else had this trouble when trying to setup a TC link? I'm feeding the transmitter from a 442, and PR72B receiver is feeding a Denecke TS3 with a simple unbalanced cable. Is the cable too long?

Hi Folks, Any idea who does service on these mixers these days in the US, I used Reg Webb in the past but I do not believe that he is in the service end of things anymore as he looks to have moved on to sound mixing. I have an 4S series II that I am looking to have a sticky meter replaced on before selling. Thanks in advance.

I've read of a few guys/gals doing this with their Fusions and Devas - swapping out the smaller knobs/fader caps (whatever you want to call them) for the larger (but older model Deva) knobs. I always liked the knobs on my 442 - but the small ones on the fusion are not as user friendly to me. With the 442 ones, I can spin them from the top, rather than the side, which means I can easily turn 4 of them at a time with two fingers from each hand. With the Fusion, I seem to be stuck using a couple of fingers per knob, or my thumb from the side. For those of you who have swapped them out - do you find they making mixing/adjusting easier? -Greg-

Maybe somebody has a better solution, but this is where I am going.... I'm looking for something, approximately a Pelican 1500, that will open flat (as opposed to the lid being 90 degrees). My thinking is to make a portable charging station now that I am all rechargeable. Space-wise I think I could do it in a Pelican 1500, if I had the top and bottom. I can use something like the heavy duty velcro to mount everything. I might be able to dremel down parts of the hinge on a Pelican and make this work, or is there another solution? It's a mess to set up the chargers on the floor of my hotel room, then pack it up in the AM, then reset it at night. Right now I could be using…

I am presently using Sound Devices timecode sync cable XL-LX to jam slates, etc. Description of the cable from the SD website: LEMO®-5 to XLR-M and XLR-F cable for time code jamming of audio and video equipment with XLR connectors; for SMTPE time code; 25-inch to XLR-M, 14-inch to XLR-F Occasionally I find that I also need to jam a Denecke SB-3 box. To accomplish this I've been unplugging the SD cable and plugging in a dedicated Lemo-to-1/8" cable. However, with the layout of my cart, it's a real nuisance to plug and unplug the lemo connector on the recorder. I'd like to solder up a pigtail that would just be XLR to the 1/8" connector used by the SB-3 and leave…

it used to be easy mic cables and a few gazintas/gazaoutas and we were set and then came ta3's and ta5's, timecode lemo and bnc, balanced, unbalanced, stereo, mono, padded red cables, sennheiser cables and now arri cables how do folks organize all these cables so they are findable and don't take up a pelican 1650 case ?

I need a TC cable with 5pin Lemo -> BNC to get code in and out of video cameras for jams to/from my Deva or SD machines. Has anyone tried wiring a cable with the + wire going to both TC IN AND OUT pins so that it will work either way? It's just for jams, not continuous feeds.

what do you use for screaming talents when you still need lavs? I find that with my TRX900 and DPA4063 I smtimes run into the situation where I need to bring down the gain to "0dB" and still get to high levels. Is there any inline attentuation available? The other thing is that although the DPA4063 can handle SPL up to 138dB before clipping (specs) I often have the feeling that it might not be the mic input of the TRX but rather the lav itself that is distorted. With a B6 - do you use the red (-10) version for screaming or even the blue (-20) one? Matthias
