Was doing a 2 camera RED Shoot yesterday I had a hardwired timecode cable to each camera both build 30.5 occasionally one of the cameras would lose sync in order to to get it to re jam. We had to power down the camera and my 744T in order to get it to re jam. The other camera never had a issue all day.

I would love to know, and I think it would be interesting all round, to hear what you more technically inclined members would consider the ideal machine on which to install pro tools, adobe CS4 and like programs for maximum performance while still being relatively affordable, say with a cap of $3500. At the pro tools class I attend on Saturdays the instructor, who used to be a tech support guy at Digidesign before they outsourced his job, (another potential thread) says to look for I series Intel quad core processors. I'm not as deep into PCs that I know what the comparisons are but I'm sure some of you will have the savvy to render an opinion or two. Thanks Mick

Can some of you sound mixers post some photos of your batteries? My next upgrade is going to be the "power star" from PSC (http://professionalsound.com/specs/pwr_star.htm) So, instead of a Power Backup system, I'm going to go with this set up, and a pelican case battery. So, I'm looking for ideas on how all of you did it, assuming you rolled your own systems. - Pelican Box? Speak-On connectors? Did you roll your own? -Richard

The process of deciding what gear, where, when, how interests me of late since I'm making the first major shift in gear and cart philosophy in 20 years. Here's one phase of the re-configuration: Shakeups in the RF world got me started thinking about where I needed / wanted to go gear-wise. Have settled on Zaxcom wireless mic system primarily because the SD card recorder seems the most bulletproof idea to cope with an uncertain RF future, and their notion of building a wireless 'network' in Zaxnet: One issue relative to my current/former use of Audio Limited's gear is that I miss the quick & painless wireless plant mic setup. While I have two TX992's o…

Just upgraded to a 744T recently and seeing alot of RF Spray on my Lectros I have moved my recorder as far away as possible from the wireless in my bag and I am powering the 744T on its own np1. Anything else I can do to cut down on the spray? Would wrapping the 744T or wireless in anything help?

Noticed that my amp now shows a red indicator light on the TX side. RX side = green. This is the unit: http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=20075 Troubleshooting, I now read this on the above-linked page: Note: This Hyperlink bi-directional amplifier is designed for burst half-duplex operation. It is not intended for constant transmit or CW operation. Operation of the amplifier in CW mode will damage the amplifier and void the warranty. I think I've damaged the amplifier and -- argh! -- voided the warranty. No! Did a walk test, and reception was better with the antenna direct to the IFB100. Guess I'm in the market for a new 2.4GHz amplifier…

Toward further finessing the cart, I'm thinking it would be great to be able to panel mount the RCA's I use to connect the video monitors (among other things, but this is the first project to come along that makes sense, 'cause it won't screw me up totally if I do it badly) from video village or DIT. I'm thinking two RCAF panel-mounted connectors on the top side, and on the bottom, 2 BNCF's and two RCAF's so I can connect either BNC video cable or RCAM from a balun. Between the connectors is the 1/16" steel "top shelf" of the Gemini Jr. cart. I stand ready to drill holes. There would have to be a "box" on the underside of the shelf for the wiring. I'd have to ord…

So...it's June 15, 2010. Anyone willing to admit to still using freqs in the 700MHz band for wireless or IFB in an American city? Still clear? I haven't seen anything new there yet in the SF area...... Philip Perkins

So I am working on a reality show and we need to record some phone calls that will be coming in to a cell phone. We won't be in a static location so I can't switch to landline use. I can't have any visual cables coming out or anything. Speakerphone is not an option. Offhand I was thinking we would have to conference call a 3rd phone and tap into that one. Either use the hands-free jack or with some JK Audio box type setup. is there another solution I am not thinking about? Obviously something that's easy to execute is a bonus. thanks, johnpaul

I came across these notes from Rane's web site that helped explain how to determine correct matching of pre-amps with microphones. I was mostly interested in the section of how to figure a microphones self noise and decided to check my own mics to the scale. The scale seemed to be fairly accurate as I found my 4073a to fall exactly where the mic's spec sheet listed.... a pretty noisy mic (high output) compared to others. I then looked up the specs for a MK41 capsule and entered it into the scale and those results made sense to me (very low self noise). Lastly, I did the same for a MK012 using a hyper-cardoid capsule and found (according to the scale) it's self noise t…

Hey All, Just heading down To N.O and Texas to cover the oil spill. I will be taking Block 21, 25 and shhhhhh 29? Am I wrong to take the 29. So, my 744T is on the way, and I'm looking at my work flow, which using an HD-P2 was simply removing the card, inserting it into a USB reader on my EeePC and renaming files, prior to backing them up on an external drive. The Eee doesn't have Firewire, google shows me a few cables that claim to convert USB to Firewire and vice versa, anyone used them with any success? Any other ideas? See my other thread in the workflow forum if you're a 744T user with who can help on another issue!. Thanks in advance

Can you really tell the difference? Does it provide similar support to the standard Versa-Flex harnesses? How is the durability? Thanks, Travis Breitenbach

Never touched it. Never (knowingly) heard it. A quick perusal of manual and brochure presents a pretty little package. Whatever happened or did not happen re: the PDR-2000? Users chime in. Would love to know more about this under reported recorder. Preamps, file storage and transfer, reliability etc I mean, drastic jump from the 1000 to 2000, and seemingly on par with the DEVA IV/V (yes/ no?) No comprende?

Searched the forum & Google for reviews/discussion, w/no results, so... Going smaller in every way I can think of. The Comtek Mini-Mite gets me part of the way there. Currently using the Phase Right for the M-216's. User thoughts? In advance, thanks. -- Jan

Hello all, Does anyone have any experience location-recording with the Sonosax (not Edirol) R4 ? I will be recording sound for a documentary shot with the Sony Z7. I will probably be booming with Schoeps M/S or CMIT, and, occasionally, some DPA lavs. For an interview-type situation I will probably have two mic (one on a stand, one in boom). I am in the dark about the AA battery consumption of this device, and especially curious about how quick do they run out with the preamps phantom on. I will be shooting in the summer in a very hot and dry environment, are extreme temperatures demanding on batteries or is it just extreme cold? David

Due to my lack of knowledge about wireless mechanics/physics, I'm asking for help with piecing together the most ideal (for the cost) set-up, parts, and strategy for incorporating an antenna system for cart use. So far, I have thought of getting a PSC Multi Dual...to feed what I currently use ( 2x 411's and 1 SRa) and have plenty of room for more wireless units I get in the future. As for what else is needed I'm not 100% sure about.... type of antennas, amplifiers or not, proper deployment, etc..etc. Please feed me your suggestions

Using my 552 as a back up recorder there are times where I don't record a lot of files, but the other day after doing a lot of short takes, I noticed that the 43 file of the day was mis-stamped in the tape and date fields when I put the files in SD's wave agent. The tape was stamped 361120 and the date was stamped 2036-11-20. Also the Originator time is stamped 07:11:16. All other fields are the same as the other files of that day. When I noticed this, I had only recorded more than 43 file on three different days. Today I tried it again and the 43 was stamped like the others with all the same numbers. As of now, I know of at lease one other mixer that has done the same th…

I'm about to buy either one of these recorders, apart from the obvious (tracks and internal hard drive, or lack of it) What are the practical differences if any in usability? Is the timecode implementation the same? Thanks in advance...........

I stopped by Coffey and LSC today after finishing my soldering class at Local 695 (very valuable, and highly recommended). LSC had a Cooper 208 and a Cooper 208D for sale (appx $7k and $9k). I'm wondering who is giving up their Coopers, or who is thinking about giving up their Coopers, and what they are putting in its place. Yamaha? Mix12? Solice? As tempting as it is to pick up one of these great mixers at a great price, I'm wondering if obsolescence is an issue. Robert

Have my eye on a couple: http://www.server-rack-online.com/shpo1918.html http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/209345-REG/Middle_Atlantic_SSL.html The first is exceptionally robust, which appeals. Quite expensive. The Middle Atlantic shelf, much less so, but affordable. I want one to hold 788t and various small gear, another upon which I can write. This looked interesting, but I don't think the dimensions will actually fit an SKB case -- I think it's just a velcro-enabled insert, and not a 'shelf' at all: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=287880&is=REG What are you guys using? Thanks…

Hi, after considering some options I decided I'll get a SD 744t as my new recorder; I thought that before placing the order it would be good to ask the community for some advices regarding the accesories for this recorder that you think I should get for a start... I'm talking about batteries, TC cables, input cables, etc. Your help will be greatly appreciated as I don't want to miss important things. Best regards, Andres.
