Hey all, Just needed some advice. I have two ALP 700a purchased used from a mixing friend. just wondering what you guys have for a low cost mounting option. I have all my booms fitted with The ambient quick locks so having this incorporated would be the best for me. Is there anything out there pre made and sold by any of our favorite manufacturers? Idea? Thanks for the input. Brian

(I posted this in another thread called "best battery to power my Sound Devices 552" but it may have gone un-noticed, anyone using these batts in general, any good?) Hawk Woods make the new stubby half size Lion NP1 battery. Its 2.4Ah and looks like a nice space saver in the bag. Anyone use these? Cheers Peter Mega http://www.hawkwoods.com/products/details/details.php?code=np-35&mainMenuItemToSlide=5&asi=mr2&asi2=npb-sqn4s

I have a damaged P&G fader on my Cooper 208 and I would like to replace it myself but, I am having trouble trying to remove the channel. Has anyone here had any experience pulling out the channel? I have removed the top and bottom screws, but it still feels like it is anchored in the chassis. Also would anyone know the P&G fader model number? Many Thanks, Kevin

Surprise, surprise! I sent the InstaSnake off to Bill Whitlock (Jensen Transformers) to give us a thorough evaluation of the transformers used in the InstaSnake. Guess what --- NO TRANSFORMERS! We just assumed that these boxes were like the video baluns we have been using for CAT-5 distribution and would have transformers that could degrade the audio. The boxes actually contain merely a circuit board to provide the coupling and routing of the 4 individual 3-pin XLR connectors to the CAT-5 Ethernet connector. So, there is no possibility of audio degradation since we are just talking cable, conductors and shield. Testing still needs to be done to discover the vulnerability …

Hey guys-I just go a 552 and went through quite a few AA batteries on a shoot last weekend. What's the best external battery to get? Getting sick of SVEN screaming at me after an hour an a half of running 3 channels. Thanks!

I did a shoot over the weekend and I had a ghostly little bug with my 302. We shot all day from early morning to night at an old resort. I lost count of how many different scenes we shot in different locations around the facility. Anyhow, during the day we shot a scene beside the pool. I had hidden lavs on the two subjects and my boom in the third channel. The sun was darting in and out of the clouds, and after setting up the shot we had to wait several minutes for the sun to reappear to shoot the takes. As we waited for the sun, I momentarily lost control of the monitoring in my 302. I usually monitor the Return when shooting, and toggle between Mono, Stereo, Return,…

Hi all, Looking to get some opinions on the blocks that are still solid in LA and NY. I have heard 19, 20, 21 and 25 are good in LA. Agree/Disagree? I have heard 21, 22 and 26 are good in NY. Agree/Disagree? Thanks to all who reply!

I would like to know what improvements have been made to version 2 and 3 for the remote audio BDS. Are they justifiable to buy a new version 3, or should I just buy a used version 1 or 2? Cheers, Justin

Ok, two things... FIRST: I'm not a seasoned production mixer, but I was on a set the other day and we were mic'ing up several scantily clad women with these "necklace lavs". They were provided by the rental house . The mic element was apparently hidden in a somewhat octagonal and metallic looking piece of jewelry worn around the neck. While I could not SEE the mic element, it was hard to tell if this was a homemade creation where someone glued the element to a necklace. The cable leading to the necklace was definitely COUNTRYMAN. A Google search for "any combination of "necklace-lav-countryman-mic-etc" yielded no results, just links to forums where other peopl…

So I am finishing up a movie in New Orleans. It's starting to get very humid. Last week we had boat work for 4 days. I remained on a bridge above the action, and my boom op remained on the various boats and barges. Although there might have been room for me on the large "video village" boat, most of the work took place boat-to-boat or completely within smaller boats. Always 3 cameras. A combination of wireless boom and lavs was the only option. Range was never an issue, and on a couple of occasions they took the boats out 400m for drive-ups, and although no dialog was needed for the approach, much of the time I was able to hear what was happening on the boat, with …

Hey all, Just putting some final touches on the new sound cart (Pics to follow) I am wondering what our you guys doing for ramps to get into your vehicles. I went online and found some cool roll up ramps and stuff. Just thought I would ask around. Now, I would like to hear about rolling the cart in as a single entity. I know some of you use modular systems so you can pack it away in pieces. I am going to have it stay as one piece (except for the Cantar coming off). I would love some suggestions, or maybe a couple of pics. The cart is no use to me if I cannot get it into a van by myself. Brian H Rebel Recordings

So I have an IDX NP-L50 that just started acting odd. The JL-2 charger says it's fully charged, the LEDs on it indicate full charge. When I put it in my Fusion, the unit won't power up. When I put it in the shoe for my BDS, nothing will power up. I tried it in an NP-1 adapter with 4-pin XLR and it won't power anything. When I test the contacts, I do get proper voltage. I tried it in the NP-1 to XLR-4 adapter and still get the same voltage (so the contacts are ok). It *seems* the battery fails under any load. I've never seen this happen before, I'm used to NP batteries slowly losing capacity. I often use them for powering my 442 and Lectros, so a certain loss in capacity…

Strongly considering purchasing SD 552. I have a question for users: How is the SVEN system working out for you. Is it easy to change critical functions quickly? Is it intuitive? Do you get used to the SVEN accent? Thanks! john.

Hello, To those that are familiar with these bad boys, I was looking to get some feedback on the regular model, compared to the "reduced sensitivity" version. Is the reduced sensitivity a new idea that is showing well in the field?

A big thank you goes out to Robert Kennedy at Coffey Sound for helping me get all the Zaxnet functions working. It turns out that I had a mix of various firmware versions on my transmitters and the IFB unit. The update process is dirt simple on all devices (you just have to be smart enough to know you need to update!). The first 4 pots on my Deva now control the gain on the mic preamps in transmitters 1 through 4. It's as easy as using the gain trim on my Cooper for a regular mic plugged into the mixer, but oh so much more useful and important when dealing with a wireless on an actor when you desperately need to change the mic preamp gain. If this were the ONLY feature th…

The purpose of this topic has been changed slightly to: -If anyone knows of a microphone that, when used with Zaxcom transmitters, has RF interference issues, list them here. ------------------------ The original post below: ------------------------ Zaxnet can cause RF interference with some mics (as posted in their documentation). A while back, I asked Zaxcom about this they pointed me to a pdf with short list of Compatible Lavs and Compatible Stick Mics (detailed below). What I was really wanting to know at the time is if the Schoeps CMIT5U had any issues. I asked Zaxcom and they said they didn't know for sure so I contacted Schoeps directly and th…

For those mixers using the Lectro 400 series for wireless boom, do you use the Smart Noise Reduction algorithm to reduce the hiss produced by the mic preamp or the mic itself? Or do you keep it off to preserve complete transparency? Thanks in advance, Gabi Cunha.

Hey guys, I'm sorry for this topic. Since this camera appeared I've recorded audio separately from the 5D using a clapboard. My question is, is it possible to feed the camera via my recorder? Is there any issue of giving a line level signal? I definitely hate doing this through the minijack! Thanks in advance, Marco

Noticed that the QRX100 says "AVAILABLE" now on Zaxcom's site. Just got off the phone with Glenn. Out in 4 weeks and incredible price... Single line - $1,800 Two line (2 transmitter) - $2,000 Four line (2 transmitter) - $2,200! Considering a RX900S is $2,000. This is like (2) RX900S Receivers PLUS all the other QRX100 features (and there are a lot of them) for nearly half the price! "The perfect camera hop" ... & MORE! Another no brainer from Zaxcom -thanks Glenn

Hey! Just bought a Rycote Invision mount (#7) to go with my Schoeps (cmc5mk41). Using the GVC to mount the amp parallel with the pole and angle the capsule down.. for low profile operating.. This was supposed to be an upgrade from my PSC small universal mount.. I was really surprised when I had it all hooked up and discovered that it SUCKED!! Handling noise was much more audible, to the point of making it hard to operate in an ENG situation. I went back to the PSC mount as soon as I had time to swap out. My best guess is that maybe the Invision mount is not designed to be used to mount the mic parallel with the pole.. I did not try using the mic at a normal…

Ok, so I'm looking at these 3 boom box units, but I cannot decide which would work for the following applications: When I work as a 3rd or Boom Op for Union gigs, and for Non-Union shoots (mostly goofy shorts with friends where I run audio). I was looking for just a basic headphone monitor and something to send the signal to the mixer, so I was looking at just the basic duplex box http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=832&cat=0&page=1 But then I was also looking at the Remote audio boom cable system, which would be handy if I needed to talk directly with the mixer over long distances or noisy sets. http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?p…

Hey all! I know this may be a little less than what everyone normally works with... but I recently rented out my fostex fr2le unit (everything find on departure) and when it came back, there was only one channel showing on the unit (channel 1 or L). I was thinking it was an arming issue, since I never saw it before, but couldnt find anything regarding track arming, etc. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! Justin
