Hey! Just bought a Rycote Invision mount (#7) to go with my Schoeps (cmc5mk41). Using the GVC to mount the amp parallel with the pole and angle the capsule down.. for low profile operating.. This was supposed to be an upgrade from my PSC small universal mount.. I was really surprised when I had it all hooked up and discovered that it SUCKED!! Handling noise was much more audible, to the point of making it hard to operate in an ENG situation. I went back to the PSC mount as soon as I had time to swap out. My best guess is that maybe the Invision mount is not designed to be used to mount the mic parallel with the pole.. I did not try using the mic at a normal…

Allen and Heath have a new FW mixer coming out. I was reading a bit through the manual. Can be clocked via adat or FW. Can send pre(including high pass) or post eq down FW. 2 parametric eq per channel. Midi out. 48watts and a bit over 2 feet wide. MSRP 1500£ Seems pretty cool http://www.allen-heath.com/zed/zed-R16.asp

Ok, so I'm looking at these 3 boom box units, but I cannot decide which would work for the following applications: When I work as a 3rd or Boom Op for Union gigs, and for Non-Union shoots (mostly goofy shorts with friends where I run audio). I was looking for just a basic headphone monitor and something to send the signal to the mixer, so I was looking at just the basic duplex box http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=832&cat=0&page=1 But then I was also looking at the Remote audio boom cable system, which would be handy if I needed to talk directly with the mixer over long distances or noisy sets. http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?p…

Hey all! I know this may be a little less than what everyone normally works with... but I recently rented out my fostex fr2le unit (everything find on departure) and when it came back, there was only one channel showing on the unit (channel 1 or L). I was thinking it was an arming issue, since I never saw it before, but couldnt find anything regarding track arming, etc. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! Justin

Hi guys! I'm working on a feature this summer which is being shot on a Canon 5D mkii. I will be recording my boom and lavs into my Sound Devices 744T and sending a wireless output from the 744 into the 5D to use as a guidetrack. The 5D has a stereo 1/8" input with manual gain control (64 steps). How have you guys out there dealt with this type of connections? How are you dealing with impedende issues if any? I guess if you are pluging a microphone directly into the camera there might be impedance issues. But how about when I send line level outputs of the 744T to the 5D? Should I be worrying about impedance matching and getting a converter? Also, as I might want to…

Hi all, Has anyone heard of frying their Rx900s Receiver with the 12v out on the Red? This output is unregulated and seems to me that if the receiver got to much juice it could cause major damage. Glenn from Zax do you have an answer? Will it damage the unit. Second question is how is the runtime on the aa Lithiums. I know someone who has modified the zax unit so it shuts down if it sees to much voltage. I have a job on monday that requires me to use it and I would like to avoid using batteries if possible. Thanks you, and I look forward to all the input. Brian

Hi guys! I'll be doing production sound for a feature this summer in France and have received a technical requirement list from the production and am trying to figure out my best option. I'll be recording to my Sound Devices 744T and sending a guidetrack from it to the camera. I have my boom mics and that side covered but what I don't have is any kind of radio mics. The production have asked for two radio mic kits and have also asked me to find out a good yet decently priced video transmitor to send the camera signal to an external monitor. They have $1000 at my disposal to buy or hire the two radio mic kits. This is not much so buying two sets of high end kit…

Hi folks, My 416 and K-tek K152 pole at full extension took a fall today. It was leaning in the v of a tree's branches and a gust of strong wind blew it out of the v and over it went, ouch!! It was in a K tek mount with a Koala Fluffy. It landed on the side of the fluffy, which offered some protection and thankfully and the 416 still works. The pole seems to be okay too, not showing any fractures in the carbon fibre. It landed half on grass and half on gravel road. The 416 however, sounds like it should but seems to be hissing more than usual (I think). I compared it to my Sanken CS3e (which is rarely used, in its box) and the CS3e sounded like it was hissing alot too.…

So I've decided that I'm going to go with the DV824 I recently bought. Selling it and am going to buy something else. I'm looking at the Zaxcom Fusion or the SD 788t. I feel that these 2 are probably the most comparable as far as units that can go in the bag for ENG or on the Cart for Film and or commercial shoots. Wondering how people feel about these recorders. I'm already partial to the SD as I have used it out in the field and I'm quite familiar with it, as well as being an owner of other SD gear, that I love. So, there's your topic, talk amongst yourselves. Thank You, Jason Hemmerlin

Ok, so I do a fair amount of network live shots and have decided that although I love my COS11's. There are times when I really don't like the omni pattern. Tuesday morning we did a liver with two guests, man and woman. Man is wearing button down shirt-has good voice and projection. Female is wearing lower cut shirt and has little projection-soft spoken needs way more gain. So add to that they are side by side and either one could jump in at any moment so have to leave the pots somewhat open, and the sat truck parked outside has a fantastic low level rumble from the on board genny. Was able to get the fridge off. Live shots tend to be straight into the camera with rarely …

Any thoughts? Same size as Cs-3. Mid weight between Cs1 and 3. They say longer reach. Is this a sports mic? On camera? Curious... http://www.sanken-mic.com/upload/pdf/en/cs-2_press_release.pdf

Has anybody out there taken their SD302 apart. The headphone connector on mine has gone south again. Hate to spend the $100 plus dollars they charge to replace it. I don't know if I am alone in the fact that these connectors don't last. Most of SD stuff is pretty good. I talked to someone in the service area, they don't advise individuals taking them apart, nor where they interested in using my supplied connector assembly to fix it right and no advice on taking the 302 apart. He did mention that there are vertical circuit boards on the ends along with horizontal circuit boards in the center. Thanks in advance. David Rogers

So it sounds like I will be awarded my first gig overseas...to rent or not to rent? That is the question. I've heard customs can be a major pain when traveling with gear. A friend of mine suggested fedex, shipping everything to the hotel, but that kinda makes me nervous. Does anyone know of a decent rental house in Germany? Or should I suck it up and bring my gear with me. Any thoughts or insight would be helpful. Thanks, Andrew

I recently bought my first clapper and used a Dry Erase Marker made by Whiteboard but it doesn't erase all the way. After I try to erase the writing with a cloth there is visual residue of what I wrote. Is there a better maker that I should use. Or a better way to remove the writing. Thanks, Andy

Hi all, i'm putting together a recording rig to gather sound effects. I've got the 744T as my main recorder. Can you pros let me know where i can find info on using Sony camcorder batteries vs. generic ones. Do you recommend only using name brands? Are there potential problems i should know about with the cheaper batteries? Is there a risk in using them with my Sound Devices? Do they have the same power output over time as the Sony's? Does anyone know the difference in life span? if you have any advice for me i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time, P.

Had a hold of the beast today and an insight into it's design. Very clever, compact and well thought out in a practical way. Have not had a listen but hope to evaluate soon. Not a cheap addition at US$3,800 mike

I would like to use my lemo to xlr 744 TC in and out cables when working with the RED. Although I thought I read somewhere that the Lemo TC wiring on the RED is different than the Lemo wiring for the SD 744. But when I look at the proper Lemo TC wiring for the 744t and compare that to the Lemo TC wiring in the RED manual it appears the same. The only difference is (I think) that you can wire the RED balanced or not balanced. Has anyone use their 744 wired TC cables with the RED successfully. Thanks, Andy
