I've tried powering two Lectro 211s from one battery source and it causes them to emit a high pitched whine. The noise is there whether of not the receivers are plugged into the mixer and is not audible in the mixer if plugged in. You can hear it in the air like a television set with a bad flyback transformer. I would like to power all four of my 211 rx and my mixer from a common source but this sound can be picked up by the mics and is really annoying. Any ideas? I'm powering two of the rx with two separate leads from my BDA with caps installed on each lead and there is a faint whine with that setup. I tried tapping in two more and the whine gets …

Anyone ever have this problem with a Sennheiser MKH series mic. It never had a problem(i.e. I haven't switched the low cut off in awhile) but I had difficulty switching it off the other day.

The other day on set we had two actors trying to carry a large box of pennies across a small room. The penny box spills, hilarity ensues. What I did not realize was that the spillage of the coins caused the wireless boom to drop out. Quickly I checked both actors ISO's, and the sound was there. By Take 3 the drop out was happening at the exact same moment, I had had enough, went hard-line boom, and all was good. 1. My wireless boom was on Block 19, the actors were on Block 20 and 21 2. The drop outs happened at pretty much the same time; as the pennies were spilling onto the carpeted floor(I would say about a 1 - 1.5 second disappearance of the signal) 3…

Hello jwsounders... Just after some feedback from SD302 users out there if I may. I usually use a PSC Alphamix, sometimes use a SD Mixpre when I'm on a simpler gig, and occasionally use a Wendt X5. Just recently, I bought a second hand SD302. The first night I used it with a Rode NTG-3, and thought initially that it seemed to be a little gain 'hungry' compared to the other 3 mixers I use, and I also noticed quite a lot of hiss. I didn't get to use the 302 again until a few weeks later, this time using it with a MKH416, and again I noticed that I really needed to ride the gain hard, even with my fader almost fully open just to get a healthy level (sit down indo…

I have some Sony lavs of the type that terminate in 3.5mm, with the screw-on lock to secure them to a transmitter's input, and I was wondering if anybody might know of some sort of adapter I could use to convert them in to XLR. I was originally planning to build my own adapters but I couldn't seem to find any threaded 3.5mm inline jacks, only panel-mount. If it's not locked down, I'm sure it would come unplugged every time an actor shifted or fidgeted or anything, which is obviously no good. Any ideas?

Anyone else who tried the Rode Blimp find them extremely heavy? I even removed the included cable and just use the boom pole's cable directly. It still feels extremely heavy to me. I have used the Rycote Kits and can't remember them being so heavy. My boom op is being a good sport about it, but yeah he's complaining.

New R0DE mics are shipping with an unusual spacer ring that may prohibit an XLR connector from securing into the mic. The ring is installed in the output of the mic. Hi Folks, Still enjoying my 552-centric setup. I used the backup recorder today for the first time in a little while and noticed something odd: the left -30 led on the meters blinks intermittently (thought not predictably) when the recorder is engaged. It blinks whether or not a signal is present and even if all the faders and trim pots are all the way down. Even if all the tracks are panned right, the left -30led blinks. It happens more frequently using the SD power brick than on battery power, but it still happens. When the recorder is not active, there's no such signal on the metters. Also, a quick check on a hardware spectrum analyzer shows no errand signals…

I just got a PowerEx C9000 along with some of the Imedion rechargeables (2100 mAH, which come pre-charged), and I'm a little confused by the manual as to the best procedure for charging, discharging, and breaking in batteries. I don't believe you 'need' to break in the Imedions because they come pre-charged, but I'm still a little unsure of what everything means on the charger and what the best charging rates would be for batteries. Anyone have some suggestions for how to best operate this charger?

Just a simple question for all of you. Is your audio feed to video assist allways a mono feed? I have a customer asking for a specific function from one of our mixers and I want to be sure to have his/your needs covered in the future. Thanks Ron Meyer Professional Sound Corp

I don't currently own any ZaxNet-capable gear but I'm considering it for the coming year and was wondering how you early-adopters are doing with the 2.4GHz band.. Since everything from cordless phones to wireless routers use that band do you have much issue with outside interference? - Can you scan the 2.4 band for clear channels ala lectro? - Have you ever received complaints from locations that you're jamming their wireless internet? (I've seen this happen with video Tx) I was on a location scout at a working hospital yesterday and noticed some pretty beefy looking 2.4GHz antennas mounted on some of the walls.. Made me think twice about the idea of bringing …

a mini-review after first viewing I had a chance to play with the JoeCo Blackbox Recorder today. I will give my mini-review and a link to the JoeCo site where you can read all the features and specifications. Scott Ray was showing the unit at Hollywood Sound Systems and Scott is the distribution rep for the device, much more knowledgeable than a salesperson but not a highly technical person, not the developer. So, there were some things that remained unanswered. The unit is very small, single rack unit height and width but quite shallow depth. There are no physical knobs or switches anywhere on the face or the back --- all controls are presented as touch sensitive b…

Hi All, Office Depot is selling 7" analog/digital tv's with built in lion batteries for $40! RCA i/o, detachable antenna, 1/4 female thread at the bottom, decent picture. They also have 3.5" tvs for $20, but they don't receive analog (ie, Canatrans) transmission. The 7" is a great deal. I already cleaned out one Office Depot. It's called the 'Digital Prism". There's also a 9" for $80 but I haven't tried it. I'm sure they will only last a few weeks but what the hell. Best, Billy Sarokin

Hi all, first post to the board although I've been lurking here for a while. I have an issue with my PSC M4 A+ and I'm wondering if any of you might have some insight? I was on a shoot, and when I went to change my batteries I couldn't get the mixer to power up. I realized that one of the contact tabs from the bottom of the battery bay came loose. Is there an easy way to repair this? I looked online for any reference material and haven't come across anything. Or is this something that I should take in to my local shop and have them repair? It seems like it could be a pretty easy fix.

So I know that Zaxcom recommends LaCie firewire drives. I'm currently using the rugged drives, for mirroring, on a reality show where we will easily roll for more than an hour at a time. I also am recording tracks that are mostly empty because I *might* need to call them up without stopping the recording. So far it's been 8GBs+ per day of audio. I know the mirror process can take some time to catch up, but it takes almost the whole hour of lunch to catch up for the morning, and at the end of the day it doesn't seem like an hour will do it. Does anyone know where the bottleneck is? Is it in the process of converting to the Wav format? Basically I am wondering if upgrad…

In the market for a new recorder. Own a 744t and like it, but want a deva/fusion/hsp82 multi xlr in, touch screen style recorder. Without bias, how do these two compare? Is the price difference with it? Havent used Zaxcom, but read and heard that they are the best of the best. I have used a Tascam HS-P82 and felt it was a decent recorder. I am in the market for a new recorder and decided on the Fusion, since its a similar recording setup with CF cards to the Tascam. I am looking at the 10 and 12...is the extra 500 worth two more tracks? I wont be recording at 192 ever, so this doesnt affect my decision. What features are practical? DVD burner and other fe…

The 552 TA3 outputs are Active balanced according to the manual, which is different from the impedance balanced on the 442. I use these to feed my Zaxcom Stereoline transmitter with my current 442. What exactly is the difference between the two, other than a 6db difference between active and transformer balanced, and is this going to cause any ill effects with the Zaxcom transmitter. Im more or less concerned about any noise penalty with the difference in level. Thanks for any help!

I've got some new Tram TR50 lavs that I've just started using with some older Lectrosonics Tx's and Rx's. They sounded fine (well... like every other Tram) when I was using them hardwired with the power supply. I've tried them a couple of times with my UM200C transmitters, and they are very noisy and require the gain on the transmitter to be turned up almost all the way to light the -20 LED. Are TR50's one of the mics that they changed the wiring scheme for servo-biased transmitters? And if so, how should they be wired to work with my older transmitters?

Just got a mixpre for a light 4 channel package. 744t channel 3-4 level setup default 0db Mixpre limiter set to maximum +18. 744t overloads. What is a correct way of setting this? Reduce 744t input or decrease limiters threshold? I expected both units to work together since they are made by the same company. Are the levels mismatched? Thanks and sorry for the greenhorn question.

Hi all, I can't find the complete description of the Deva's Hirose 10 pin connector: ground pins are not described. I used another cable I have as a reference (it uses pins 6, 8 and 9 for ground) and wired the new cable like this: OUT 5: pin 1 hot, pin 8 gnd OUT 6: pin 3 hot, pin 9 gnd But it does not work well: - OUT 5 has a lower than normal level and some "weak ground" noise (it goes away touching the Hirose conn. chassis) and I can hear the processor thru it (using the screen for example) - and OUT 6 has a higher than normal level. I can't use the other cable because it is wired for my sound cart (long wires, heavy, etc.) and I need the new cable to work…
