I purchased a D4 system a bit over a month ago for reality/travel show work as a wireless to camera hop and while the audio quality and range are superb (really great on both counts) I've had a few problems. Here's the thing. I've been using 100 series Sennheiser radio mics with custom attenuated cables as camera hops for years, and they sound great. I've blind A/B'd them with 411's and the difference is imperceptible. They've never failed me either but when I put them on a camera I always get a comment about how cheap they are or musings about how much rental I'm getting for them. So I spent close to 4 grand on a D4 system. The first problem I had was the size of t…

Does anybody know how much this mod cost including shipping to Germany? Also how do I get around customs if I send my stereo set? Is there different way to go? I heard something about Neutrik RF xlr that does prety much the same thing. Thanks

I am an excited new owner of Zaxcom's wireless boom, comprising the TRX992, RX900S and IFB100. I have just finished a 2 day commercial where there was a lot of Steadicam work. We had problems with the Steadicam's video feed via the "Titan TxRx Transvideo" and I got the blame for using my IFB100 on 2.4 GHz! Have any of you encountered the same problem? This is worrying especially after getting excited by the possibilities of Zaxnet. Is there a way around this problem? Alan

Had a problem recently with the Pnasonic HPX 3700 (P2 Varicam) When plugging 2 Lectro 411's into the Hirose DC output the camera immediately went into record, this happened several times until I switched over to internal batteries and abandoned the camera power.. Anyone have a similar experience? I'm expecting its some wiring issue with the Hirose connector. Jonathan

Hi team, I know this subject has been covered in the past but I thought I'd beat the horse again since it's a new year and maybe some new opinions and usage reports have developed... The lectro SR receiver as an in-bag dual mic receiver.. In my quest to make a fully-functioning over-the-shoulder rig that doesn't rack up chiropractor bills I've been considering getting two of these to replace the usual allotment of 4x individual radio receivers.. I know some of you have at least tried this route (Mr. Farr, and Mr. Durfy?) how are you finding the overall performance? How often do you miss your 411a's? Once in a blue moon or every time you use the setup? …

I am building a small ( as in first ) cart and looking at the different approach that you guys are taking in building your RF distro system. Since i have to remain ready for bag based work and will share equipment in between the to type of jobs, here is a breakdown of my equipment. 5 Lectrosonics UCR411A, mounted in a Portabrace RM multi deluxe with DC distro ( ending with an XLR4 for power thru cart distro or NP1 cup ). Sound Devices 788T with CL8 ( one day it will be a CL9 ). Comtek M216opt7 ( for boom op ). Lectrosonics LMa TX ( for Camera hop mono ). Here is my idea thus far: An SKB 12 rack space containing Receivers and recorder. One R…

Hi , Firstly thanks to David Waelder for the review of this system in the 695 quarterly . I have been looking at this system for a while now with the view of buying one , however at present i run a lectro sm/denecke ps-1 and i was surprised to read that the lectro system that David compared with the zax system seemed to be as good . Surprised only because everything i had read lent towards the zax being the best . Anyway , because i run a fusion the zax system has advantages but i am concerned about the ifb . Is the 1 watt antenna amp a zax product or aftermarket , what is it? , how much? and how much power does it draw . Also is the trx700 the same au…

Gentlemen.. If anybody knows about this I dare say they will reside here. My friend has a couple of AKG 451's, I've always quite liked to use these (in a live environment) but now they develop noise after about,.. well anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes and therefore are now rendered redundant. Do we have any experience of this issue ? It would be nice to be able to restore them to their former glory and put them back to work.. All the best

If anyone is using them, ie neumann, sennheiser or schoeps, I'm interested in hearing opinions about performance and if they are viable for field use( bulk of external power unit without a 788 or programing unit, speed of setup, etc). I cam across this article http://www.ejvaudio.com/docs/MicPaper.pdf What I've gleaned is that, without a preamp, there is less self noise/coloration and if you record a signal at a low level, there is no detriment when raising it in post. Additionally, there is no frequency loss down the cable. With the advent of DSP algorithms in the superCmit these microphones are starting to look more interesting to me and what I'm looki…

Hi Folks, I am trying to find out if there is a way to lock the menu on the RX 900S like you can do on the TRX 900. Does anyone know of a way to do this? I am using them on a reality show in a pouch that the camera guys wear on their waists and they lean on the buttons and change the freq. It hasn't become a problem yet but has the potential for disaster. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Rob P

Was working a commercial shoot recently and had a female talent who had a very strong mid-range voice. I had a B3 in her hair (worked great), and boomed her with an AT-4073a. The AT mic has a fairly mid range brightness to it that I've usually found to work out fine in the end mix, except for this specific talent. There were plenty of times I could hear some of her loud areas crunch a bit as if it was peaking, however my meters were well within limits. Since I don't have any onboard EQ control with my ENG mixer, would this be a case of needing an option for another boom mic of a different characteristic? Perhaps this might be a quality issue with my mic pres? I g…

I'm looking to replace the bottom base connector on my K-Tek Avalon boom pole. I was wondering if this is just a Switchcraft B3M connector, or is it some modified version of it? The part was quoted at almost $100, whereas the B3M connector is $15 at any online electronics part store. Could I save the cash? Thanks!

Hey Gang, I've been looking at Jeff's gallery of carts, looking for some inspiration for the following issue: what is the best cart set-up for using an 01v96? I got my hands on a lightly used one - have started to wrap my head around the internal routing structure of the mixer - and was only now aware of how deep the mixer is! If I wanted to go the SKB route - I'd HAVE to get the shockmount version - just to fit it inside! I know Rastorder is an option - but more $ than I was hoping to pay for a cart! I'm starting to look at the magliner carts. Maybe an SKB on a magliner? Thoughts? Ideas? I don't want the cart to end up so huge I'm gonna regret getting…

I have a Powersonics charger for one of my 33 Amp Pelican case batteries. The charger takes a 2AG .60 inch or 15mm size fuse (picture below). Even Pacific Radio couldn't help me. Any one have an easy source of where to buy these in Los Angeles? Thanks in advance. RL

For anyone who has experience using the DV824 in the field, could you give me any tips based on your experiences with the machine in the field. Building my cart based on this unit as I got a really good deal on one via a friend of mine. Any way that you may utilize the machine that made your day go a little more smoothly. Any particular way that you may have setup the machine that seemed to work better than others. Any pitfalls to look out for. Any problems that may have occurred in post with anything you gave them. Stuff of that nature. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank You, Jason Hemmerlin

Hi all , just joined last week. I have a question about the SD 552. I have read a lot of posts from last year when it first came out. I see nothing new lately. Those of you that have used it, are you happy with its functions? mainy I would like to know about the quality of the recordings. I do not do much recording most of my work is strictly video with audio recorded to camera. Thanks for any info you may have. Want to upgrade cannot decide on a used 442 or new 552? Tom

Wondering if anyone has any info, or knows where to find info about portable antenna systems. More specifically, the systems used by military personnel. The kind usually poking out the top of backpacks that soldiers use for communications. I'm looking to use that kind of antenna system integrated with a Lectro Octopak for a mobile wireless setup. Thanks

I'm on a doc out in SF, set-up my bag yesterday in LA and tested everything before hand. Got in to SF last night and today I went to test out some workflows and now nothing is powering up. When I plug the np cup adapter straight into the 744t, the 744t powers up fine. I'm not sure what could have happened in between yesterday and today but the problem seems to be with the Battery Bud. Anyone experience anything similar and possibly know a fix? I currently have one output powering the 744t and one output powering 1 Lectro 201 and 2 letro 211's. Thanks

I rented a Lectro Sr camera hop from a pro audio place in NYC and they gave me (actually the producer, who picked it up) block 28. I had a conversation with the rentals manager who assured me that block 28 was clear and I would have no issues, even after I discussed the current laws with him. I have been on another shoot all day and have not really had time to deal with this, but I am more than a bit concerned. What problems or issues should I expect to face? Thanks. Marc
