I needed better access to my CH4/5 option on my 302, so I made this little box! It has a 10K pot (red knob), which works perfectly, and an on/on switch for left or right side assign. I would have put an on/on/on switch so I could have left/center/right control, but my local electronics parts shop did not have one small enough. In the future, I might make a slightly larger box with smaller parts, that would have CH 5 included as well.

I was so impressed with the Lectrosonics sm when it came out. Such sleek industrial design. Now I've come to find it's simply retro. The Tahbes Synchro is from the late 1940s.

We were shooting a weapons test today with the AK74. Since there is nothing else to do here on my FOURTH week of prep, I played around a bit with mics and my recorder settings. We were in a very old, but somewhat large and acoustically dead sound stage in the old tv studio building. The 788T has P48 powering on line inputs, so you can have a nice pad in front of the preamp. I don't know if other recorders offer this, but the 744T did not. It is a handy feature when experimenting with recording directly to the machine. I set up my SM58 on a cable, my MKH416 on a cable, and my MKH50 on the UM400 wireless boom setup (for kicks). I found that with the SM58, I c…

Just rented one of these to try out against my 416t.. Used in a fairly live room, bare laminate floor, little on walls except papers, assorted office furniture. Room size approx 30ftx12ft. Noticed the extra reach right away, magically seemed to suck in good levels from almost twice the distance of the 416t.. Also noticed the bizarre absence of proximity effect. Which is strange at first since you're so familiar with the pronounced increase in bass response every inch closer the 416 gets. Also noticed that when a/b'ing the 20/80Hz cut on my mixer i noticed no difference with the cs-3e. Subject's voice was not the best test voice.. naturally thin and sort…

When the Solice was initially introduced, I mentioned a few items that I thought could use altering. Thankfully, most of these items have been addressed, so I've described those changes the PSC has made and posted them on the Trew Audio discussion area here: http://www.trewaudio.com/audioflow/2009/09/28/psc-refines-the-solice-mixer/ Best, Glen Trew

Here's a short cart story. I've stood up to mix behind a series of carts and stands for my whole working life as a location soundie (34 yrs), except for certain sorts of multicam and music recording jobs. Now in my "AARP Years", I decided that I needed to change out my big heavy Magliner-based "Ship Of Love" cart for something easier to move around and fittable into smaller spaces and vehicles, and that would allow me to sit while recording at least some of the time. As we all know, these are not the best of financial times, so buying a cart was out of the question. About this time a friend who rents warehouse space with a bunch of other movie technicians called and t…

Ah the abuse! I'm just gonna rip/tug/pull/stretch this tiny inanimate object off me like the indignant interviewees do on 60 minutes...because I can, and I look important doing it. I've read that certain lavs cannot be refurbished (fixed) given types of enclosures (at the head). Question: can Sankens be saved, and if so is it financially worth it? It's clearly a wiring fault, buzz. Twiddling cable connection at the head remedies problem, but only temporarily. I've got two that I'm loathe to retire, I've rotated in a couple of new ones, but it seems like a waste? Cut my losses? "JWSOUND Knowledge base..Activate!" Thanks, Toby

I have a possible job on the horizon requiring MS stereo and am wondering if the Sennheiser 418 stereo shotgun would be a good mic to rent? It fits in my suspensions and rycotes which is a bonus, I'm just wondering about the quality of the S channel capsule, I seem to remember hearing it was a little on the noisy side? I would love to get a Schoeps MK8 capsule or a MKH30 for a MS setup but would need a larger Rycote for those and also have heard that handling noise can be a real problem with a Schoeps MS rig? Jon C

Hello all, sorry if this has been discussed before, but I can't find it. I'm doing a job next week and was planning on just using my 788t with the cl-8. The producer has said he has an old schoeps m/s rig so I told him to bring it along to try it out. I don't have an m/s setup myself and have never tried one with the 788t. Just wondering is there an m/s matrix in the 788 and is straight forward to make ms recordings with it. As always input much appreciated. Cheers

Hello to all at this forum and Thanks to Jeff for helping me get this set up. Most of my business involves recording orchestra and jazz concerts. However, I wish to expand other avenues of the business. I have a 702 and am looking for a wireless lav. Is there anything under $1,000 that will sound decent and be an alternative to the latest lectrosonics (411)? Or should I pick up an older 195 off Ebay? Thanks in advance! Don

Hello everybody , I am searching for additional mixer for my third setup which is Edirol R 4Pro 4 ch recorder , but I need some cheap and good enough mixer . So I am thinking about Mackie VLZ 3 1642 , Soundcraft M8 and I just saw Midas Venicce 160 . So if any body know something more about Midas Venice 160 please it will help to choose the right one. I know that Mackie and Soundcraft are pretty good , but nothing about Midas, and price for this mixer is little more than for VLZ 1642 and M8 , so any thoughts will be great. Thank 's in advance . I've been asked to find an audio solution for a new ob/doc about to go into production, situation is this: 1 classroom 1 Teacher 12 Students 3 HDV cameras 1 ENG Sound mixer NO Hard disc recorder NO Money When the pilot was shot there were issues with missing important dialogue from the students because there was only 1 sound mixer with boom to cover all 12 students. Teacher was on radio mic. Most of the dialogue is coming from the teacher, who throws questions at the students every now and then. My suggestion was to group the 12 students onto 3 tables in groups of 4, and use a low profile lecturn style mic (Rode NT6) on a gooseneck on each of the 3 tables, …

The Remote Audio "SHUNT BOX" that was mentioned several weeks ago is now available. It is ideal for cart setups that use a battery and/or power supply with a homemade distribution system. It can also function as a "smart cable" for monitoring voltage and amp draw. Read all about it here: http://www.remoteaudio.com/shunt_box/ . Glen Trew

While configuring my new bag my new Zaxcom trx 900 with STA 150 and RF Trap is bleeding into two of my lectrosonics Block 21 receivers. The Zaxcom unit is on Block 24 on 25 mw power output. If I put my old black zaxcom tx in the bag zero bleed. Zaxcom couldn't offer any suggestions except to move it farther away in the bag. So I wrapped the zaxcom in Reynolds Aluminum foil and the problem went away. This seems like a good solution to me what does everyone think. Also one of the two lectrosonics units was just serviced earlier this year so I don't think it is a bad unit. The bleed on the units is just as bad no matter that frequency it is on.

Sorry for the rather beat up subject, but... I've changed my run rig from a 442/744T combo to a DEVA and I need to change bags. The PEGZ1 I was using for the previous set up doesn't work with the DEVA. The side ports on the PEGZ1 don't allow enough access for the DEVA battery or connectors, just too small. What are you folks using when in a bag config with a DEVA and multiple wires? Thanks.

Dear All, I had the opportunity of adding the IFB 100 to my cart on a stage "Brilliant" We toyed with it in a few different configurations with RED, TRX900/Stereo adapter, RX900s, It's a time saving confidence builder offering many options for TC , program signal and monitoring. We swaped the supplied antenna to a (Tin Can) "waveguide circular antenna".. Without measuring line impediance and VSWR.I would guess 5 to 13dbi. We didn't have a "Bird" or instrument to measure the PO, FS, ERP. The tin can was available, cheap and it gave us a greater distance over the supplied antenna. (The IFB100 proved to be a rock solid delivery system using the supplied antenna a…

Hello, Maybe some of you have had this happen to one of your older 416's.. The pins are loose and wiggle around when you touch them. They're so loose that even when the mic is plugged in the pins shift slightly causing loud taps in the audio.. At least, I think this is what's happening. When booming I hear this when doing a fast swivel move with the mic. Anyone have a fix for this or is a tune-up from Sennheiser in order? I've taken the case off my 416 once before but didn't know how fragile the internals are and closed it back up promptly. Can anybody speak for what the turn around time is like when sending Senn gear back to Connecticut for work? Than…

Hello, I am setting up my 788T for use next week, and am seeking opinions about limiter settings. The 788T gives you the option for "soft-knee" which I intend to use. It claims to start engaging the limiters at about 6dB less than the set threshold. I would like to see what experience people have with this working properly or not. I would also like to ask what limiter thresholds different people have set (-12dB to -2dB), and what recovery time (down to 50 msec) people have used and/or would recommend. Thanks, Robert

hey gang, though i haven't looked into all the dealers/parts etc, can anyone tell me whether it is generally cheaper to build a cart versus buy one? (not including the time factor) i think the customizing ability is a big draw for me to build one in my spare/down time versus buy something from psc or the like. just a simple feeler if anyone can speak from experience. maybe the biggest draw between one or the other is in fact the time it takes to build it... thanks, -greg-

Recently, since the Panasonic 2700,3000,3700 have made a bigger presence after PSonics huge price drop, I have gotten a number of calls from Sound and Camera departments about a pretty hefty 3 frame/120millisecond Video Delay. The poor Post people seem to be squawaking about their audio offset in Final Cut . The flow seems to go like this: Audio Recorder is the master@29.97 (Panasonic is almost always 29.97), to Ambient/Denecke TC Boxes @29.97 applied to the Cameras which are recording AVC Intra Codec w/ TC crossconverted in-camera @ 23.976 (Although Panasonic system freq is 29.97) = 3 frame delay..... we're trying to track this problem and do a proper test/evaluation, …

Hello All, Glad to be apart of this site. I should have been here months ago. LOL. Well I have a question/concern. I do production audio and now I'm starting to get a ton of location sound mixing and recording gigs. I want to setup a sound cart and also would like the ability to use a video monitor on my sound cart with that said I was wanting to know would the transmitter and receiver below work for what I want to do? Also how would I power this if I have no access to outlets. I just need a little explanation/help if possible please. Lastly, I generally work with like the Panasonic HVX or the Sony EX3 type cameras. Just as long as they have a VIDEO OUT i'm goo…
