Hello, I have seen several mentions that talent mic to mixer frequency ranges should be below a hop from mixer to camera frequency ranges. Is there a technical reason or is it just a habit? Thank you.

I need some advice. I am doing a show in which the director wants to speak directly to the host during a take to feed him some information. At this point i have pretty much nothing to do that. I am looking at using either a Phonak Phonito rf earwig or an inductive neck loop. Here are my questions: 1- What is the usable range of an RF phonak phonito earwig? 2- Can i use a comtek, LEctro R1 or Sennheiser G2 with an inductive neck loop, enough gain? I have a Lectro UH400 that i could use with a DYnamic mic ( on/off switch on it ) and use it in IFB mode to feed an Lectro R1a receiver. So, what do you think, Neckloop or RF earwig? THank you

Hello group, just acquired the CL9 for cart-based work.. how do CL9 users create a private line from Mixer to boom-op and back. I didn't realise the limitations of a line-level Comm return. Also didn't realise that, when using the headphone out to the boom-op he monitors the same as I.. I thought of the following workflow: The boomie has a passive boom-box connected thru a snake, the headset-mic is a dynamic mic.. well, there's the first caveat: to be able to listen to his comments I need a micpreamp to crank the mic-signal to linelevel to be able to use the Comm return on the CL9.. the only small battery-powered micpre I have is the SD302 (!), seems like a bi…

A friend of mine has an Akai reel to reel tape machine from the 70s, which is a consumer machine that would play stereo/quad tapes. It is now displaying a constant white noise of sorts whenever it is powered on, whether or not it is playing a tape. No signal comes from the tape when it is playing, however all mechanical evidence of it working seems to check out ok. The noise comes from the built in speakers, as well as all outputs including the headphone jack. Has anyone here experienced this sort of issue and found a solution other than bringing it into be repaired? He is a DIYer so can do simple repairs if he knows where to look. I myself am curious so I thought I'…

Hi All, I thought we had a discussion on this, but couldn't find anything. What's the best way to remove tape residue from lav wires? Thanks! Phil

What are you using? I've been using a small gutted CD case to carry around my tape and scissors. I like it because it's compact and soft enough to squish down a little in a case. It works okay, but nothing is secure within. This became a problem on a recent job involving a sail boat in some rocky waters. Time to move on. Thanks.

From another forum a member brought up this problem: " Tascam 60D - can't turn off mics I've recently purchased the Tascam 60D to use w/ a DSLR. Many nice features, however I've plugged in several microphones (both phantom & non phantom), and can not turn the volume off using the front pots. With the pots completely off, I'm still getting signal in the recordings. The pots seem to kick in at about 11 o'clock. I spoke to Tascam, and was told that was the way the pots work! This means that all mics plugged in are always somewhat live, even if potted off! Admittedly, I've only had the unit for a few days, and could be missing something. The aud…

https://www.newsshooter.com/2023/07/06/tascam-dr-10l-pro-with-32-bit-float-recording-timecode-support/ Battery life has gone up from 10.5hrs to 24.5hrs (based on two AAA lithium batteries) Has a high-visibility OLED display, with lots of physical menu buttons for navigation. Has a headphone output so you can monitor the audio before/during/after recordings. Has an app for Android and iOS phones, you can add metadata (including project name, scene name, and take number) to the audio file. The app also gives you visual confirmation of the input audio with a waveform display over time. You can name each DR10L Pro via the app, for ea…

I do the sound and media at my church. We are currently using a TASCAM CD-RW900 to do all of our recording. It is not getting a signal right now. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what it could be. By the way, this piece of equipment is brand new and was working perfectly a couple of weeks ago. Thanks.

Just finished a shoot with a tascam 60D in combination with a blackmagic cinema camera. Both provided by the same rental company. Now in post we find out that the drift is quite big, about up to two seconds already for a 10 minute clip. I ruled out the blackmagic camera a bit (can this be a camera issue anyways?), since the rental company says and showed me a zoom H4n/blackmagic combo shoot with just a couple of frames drift (10+ min clips). Tom Duffy, if you read this, is this firmware related maybe? As far as I know it was the last version (rental company says, didnt check myself). I do like the small thingy, but the 2 seconds is way too much.

Looks like a possible cart recorder...? One rack space. Madi/ Dante, smpte, word clock I/o etc. 64 tracks of 24/48 or 32 tracks of 24/96. http://news.aesshow.com/2015/11/tascam-da-6400-captures-64-tracks-in-single-rack-space/

Here is another sort of cool cheap digital mixer / recorder. It does support some sort of MIDI MTC timecode, but looks like it only supports "Music 30" which I'm guessing is appropriate for 44.1k music projects. I could see using this as a backup recorder and for sending scratch track and IFB audio feeds. It looks like the smart channel strip controls are intelligently laid out and proof that one doesn't need to resort to iPad interfaces to achieve basic digital mixer functionality. It also has some interesting playback abilities, with marker / locate functionality, MTC master, and simple CD playback for wrap music.

Hello,One of my location soundmen accidentally used an improper voltage setting on the power supply (powergorilla - used 16V instead of 12V). The unit powered up fine but we were not getting any input on any of the 6 channels, line or mic input. Upon checking the battery I immediately switched off the device. Set the proper input voltage setting (12V), but the unit would not power up - an error message keeps appearing - SYSTEM ROM ERRSwitched to the included 12V power supply, still the same SYSTEM ROM ERRAfter updating the Firmware to v1.31 the unit powered up okay.BUT I am still not getting any input on any of the 6 channels; MIC or LINE input; LOW or HIGH gain, phantom…

Hello All, Question, how successful have users been sending a mic level feed out of their 442 into the xlr mic in's on the Dr-100. I have not played with every variation of gain structure yet just wanted any hints if anyone had them..... So far I seem to overmodulate the unit with good meter'd levels. Probably need to experiment more with the low med high gain button. Thanks for any tips.....Not sure if I want to keep this unit......

One of my DR-10C's has just started acting up, where after it's been off for more than a couple of minutes, "DATE TIME NG" appears on the display at powerup, then the unit goes straight to the date and time setting page with everything zereod out (see attached pics). I'm assuming that this is because the internal date battery is dead? the AA batteries are all good, and it has latest firmware. It's been sat on the shelf for probably near to a year, so it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case, but anyone had this happen? Anyone ever replaced the internal battery? I'm in the US (brought these from the UK) so I'd rather avoid sending them in for service if at all …

Tascam Dr-40 anyone here using one? Are you able to name files and if so how easy/fast is it on the fly? Thanks for any input. I did read the manual but it doesn't go into much details but again I could have missed/overlooked info. Nicole

Been searching everywhere for an answer to an issue with the DR-40's dual mode and was hoping someone could clarify. If I run +4 line signals into my DR-40 with the EXT.IN gain set to 0, then there's no way to get a safety recording because I'm assuming it only attenuates the unit's preamps, and not the line input signal itself. If I'm missing something, please let me know, I'd love to have that feature but I understand if the unit wasn't designed to support it like that.

here are some pics of my recently arrived tascam Testing phantom power and pre amp. things to note: the xlr inputs are extremely strong--not TOO difficult but force is required after pushing the clip down to pull the XLR off Using an NTG3 +48v on the tascam with 4x fresh eneloop 2000mah at 24 bit, 48k i had about 3 hours and ~5 minutes before it died. I have a sampling between the mix pre d into the recorder and without it if you guys want to listen, though there is a computer in the background and its pretty rough. Still it does paint a pretty clear indication of the tascam's preamp vs the Mix PD

Hi All, A customer brought in a Tascam DR-60D and Canon 5D Mark II camera to figure out a noise problem worth mentioning here. It seems that the DR-60D is emitting more digital noise from its converters than the Canon 5D can shield. Details are here: http://www.trewaudio.com/audioflow/?p=4978 Glen

Hi folks, a search didn't answer my specific question (to follow) so perhaps this thread might go on to serve others with their own specific questions on the DR-60D as and when. So, I'm thinking of picking up a DR-60D as a very cheap and very portable 4 channel recorder. I like the idea of strapping it to the end of a boom for 2 channel FX recording - but my question refers to potential 4 channel use and its 3/4 input. Has anyone used the 3/4 mic in fed from the unbalanced (-14dB) tape out of a Sound Devices (302, 442 etc)? I understand of course that I could go (attenuated) mic level out from a SD302 into the 3/4 in but was hoping if the signal out of the Mix Out wa…
