I'm looking to build it a low cost field setup for sfx recording and was wondering if anyone had experience with the dr-680s recording at 192khz through a USBPre? Or, is that recorder not reliable for good enough and should be replaced by a 702 or 722? ---------- If someone has a used 702 or 722 FS I would be interested in buying. I am located in Seattle. One project I am gearing for is pitch shifting recorded whale song, hence the 192khz record rate.

Thinking of getting a boundary mic to use as a plant mic. I had a job the other day, reality show, where there were 7 people sitting around a picnic table, three cameras one on an extremely wide shot so booming was not an option. I wired 4 main talkers and it turned out just OK. So I was thinking if I had a CUB-01 I could have put that out in the middle of the table and may have had better results. Would that have been a better option? Other than that shoot I don't think I have a lot of use for one but I'm assuming that if I get one - like most things - I would use it more often. I was thinking about the CUB-01 - how does the that compare to other's boundary / PZM mic…

I have been noticing that block 19 is increasingly short on clear scans in the NYC area (I have 3 411s in this block) and have been thinking either Lectro wideband a-1 or the 941 SRC block reblock 2 smqvs to 941 (if possible) may be a viable upgrade? Any thoughts from the collective brain trust?

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with the Lectrosonics SMQV transmitter. I am buying a new wireless system and I am considering a SMQV vs the UM400. I haven't ever really been in a situation where I needed the extra boost of power (250 mW). But I was thinking it might be nice to have at some point if I ever needed the extra range. Any idea what will the extra power get me in terms of distance? Is it worth the extra money? Thanks

Searched the forum & Google for reviews/discussion, w/no results, so... Going smaller in every way I can think of. The Comtek Mini-Mite gets me part of the way there. Currently using the Phase Right for the M-216's. User thoughts? In advance, thanks. -- Jan

Hello. I'm new to this forum and also to audio recording. I make music and develop game assets in my spare time and I'd like to move further into sound effect recording. For some time I've had a Zoom H4N for some basic sound effect gathering but I've been disturbed by noise level and background sounds. I also visited a shooting range which was obviously a huge disappointment and some internet searches reviled that recording gun fire requires quite a pricey setup and also a lot of knowledge and experience =) The end of the year is approaching and I will be able to put some money on a decent setup to replace the H4N and I've spent the past three days researching and…

I am currently using G3 wireless for production sound. I have 3 sets that I use for a combo of mic'ing talent and wireless hops to cameras for scratch. I recently had a TX go out on me. It was working one second and would not power on the next. This has me thinking about taking this opportunity to move to lectrosonics. Two factors leading me towards going lectro: 1) Better range, 2) less scrutiny from producers / camera ops for using G3s. While I would LOVE to pick up a SRB + (2) SM transmitters, it is not in the budget as I primarily do post work these days. What I am considering is a used UCR210D/UM200C, which is more in my budget. My question: is this …

Hi folks, I'd appreciate very much if anyone here wouldn't mind to share their thoughts about the upcoming upgrade that I'm seriously thinking to do. I usually do a few weeks of research before buying anything expensive, and I thought opening this thread and read people's thoughts about buying the bundle of Wisycom MPR52 receiver with x2 TX (MTP41s) for £3k new I'm based in London (UK), and I mostly do bag work on my own (loads of short films, documentaries, corporate, online content...) and sometimes I assist as 1st on mid-budget productions or/and 2AS dailies on big productions. I've been working for almost the last 3 …

I have about 12 prototype thumbscrews for all the SM series belt clips. It is a small disc with an Allen setscrew embedded in it to replace the current Allen setscrew and wrench setup. The prototype can be tightened and loosened with just your fingers making it easy to add or remove the belt clip. I can't find the original thread where I said we'd take a look at this. Anyhoo, the first 10 readers that send me a mailing address will get a prototype to play with. They are not anodized and pretty but they work well. Best, Larry F Lectro larryf@lectrosonics.com

Here's the latest info on availability of the Sm belt clip thumbscrews. We only heard back from one beta tester but since he liked it we ordered 2500 parts. Best, Larry F Lectro <Hi Larry, We have 2500 of the thumbscrew wheels on order that are due 8 July, which will have to go right back out for anodizing (Ifigure back in house & ready for assembly on the 15th or 18th). I'll make a boatload in mechanical assemblyimmediately following receipt and they should be available for shipments on orbefore 22 July. I'm sure a whole bunch will go out by themselves, soinitial usage will likely be *very* high. The thumbscrew wheels are 4-week lead (FYI). If it…

Been using a Thumper quite regularly on a show I'm just now completing. After so many rentals, I'm thinking of purchasing or building my own. The PCS unit that LSC rents out is not for sale...it's a build only for LSC and it stays in rental. Anyone have any suggestions or a possible line on an existing thumper system? Thanks.

For those that have Thumpers in their equipment package, what brand, size, watts, or type are you using?

Hello all, I was working in the loews hotel in philadelphia-I had a setup using my 442, 2 sanken cos-11 hardwired(its the model sanken that has the battery capsule that you can use phantom without the battery, or use a battery with phantom.) and star quad cables. What I was hearing was a loud thumping sound that would cause both the channels peak light to pop and my level on my master slam to almost full scale. It did not sound like typical rf such as repetitive drum beat. It sounded like a pretty intense thump that randomly happened at different intervals . I switched phantom off and put batteries in the lavs and I heard the thump once or twice but luckily i n…

could you guys with a Nomad 12 do me a favour and check your Nomad for a noise that my brand new N12 got? Switch on the Nomad, have your faders down (doesn´t matter if there is any source connected) and listen to the Nomad itself with headphones volume all the way up. I´ve got a ticking noise every 2 seconds. This noise get´s recorded and will be on the tracks. I have checked the recordings on my laptop - it´s there. I even got a replacement N12 from Zaxcom - same ticking. Thanks for helping and listening on your N12 in advance. Matthias

thought I share my findings: had some random ticking on my CMIT on a 742. Turns out that Zaxnet commands sends gain 30/31 all the time back and forth. Thats where the ticking came from Small turn on the fader cured the problem

Hi all Can't help but think this has been discussed before but a search didn't turn up what I'm looking for. I'm curious as to what the time delay required to align a UM400a radio and boom mic ( around 12 to 14" from subject). Was hoping to dial it in on my 788t. Thanks

I do nature sound recording as hobby and have done projects where the dialogues I recorded were synced using plural eyes. The only time code I knew was punching in and out in my day job. Now I have access to a SD 702T and am wondering how do I use time code with a C300 camera. We will have a manual slate for the takes in the project. Though I have read the C300 manual about timecode, I have no idea how to go about it, as I have never done it. Can someone please be kind enough to answer this basic question. I don't have access to any other hardware like timecode buddy etc (never touched it, just read in this forum). How do I learn? I hope the experts here can atleast…

Young Will and I did another of our budget-challenged music recording + video jobs last evening, and we tried out something new in response to a change in the camera dept.s gear. In the past we'd done many shoots like this where there was a mongrel assortment of prosumer and pro video cameras working, and all of them could A: roll for a long period of time (like a whole music set) and B: could have their internal TC generators set to a specific time and then started manually. This is what we refer to as "3-2-1-GO sync". It's not frame accurate for sure, prob a few seconds off, but it gives the editor a pretty close idea of where in the concert they are, and then the ca…

Hi There, In video situations I ussualy pull TC from the camera to feed my 744 in external TC mode/ rec run. At the moment I use a breakaway cable + a BNC for TC. I would like to simplify this to a single cable, however I am weary of TC bleed into my audio signal. I would like to avoid a lockit box solution in a single camera setup ($$$). Does anyone know if there is a particular cable make/ configuration that can handle TC and audio without bleed? I would like to be able to run at least 100'. Bartek

I just received an interesting call from post. On a multi camera shoot with one Amira and 2 FS7s, the time code was off by exactly 1 frame. The Amira was back 1 frame and both of the FS7s were forward by one frame. Timecode was sourced from an SD633 at 23.98 using Tentacle Syncs to jam. The timecode did not drift. It stayed exactly one frame, even after re-jamming. I worked with this same crew last year with the same cameras and the same editor. They said they did not see this problem last year. Finally, the cameras are opened by different operators. What am I missing here?

Anybody see anything wrong with this scenario? ( other than range ) Use Jumpstart LTC to jam the Denecke slate, then transmit from the slate time code back to the cart. Slate becomes the master time code source. Either jam camera with Jumpstart at the same time the Denecke gets jammed, or put a receiver on camera with the transmitted time code for the slate, or run it like its a film camera and not bother. 2nd slate gets a receiver. I've tried it out and boom recorder and the flash memory back up are happy . Thought of fishing voltage off the slate, to power the TX, but haven't looked into it yet. Also thought about having the TX only power up when the stick…
