A mixer friend and nomad owner had the misfortune of his nomad unable to boot in the middle of a shoot running a recent version (not sure wich) using reccomended transcend cards. He called me in panic and i couldn t really give hime any instructions on what to do. It did not seemed to be a power issue. Screen stayed black but would slightly light up. I know you can boot the machine from the software on the card but i don t remember how? It was a weekend so zaxcom was closed. What would you do other than say shit happens and order another machine for the day.... Thanks

All of my wireless kits are Sony branded and each unit covers channels 30-36 & 38-41 (566 to 608 & 614 to 638 MHz). Unlike other brands, Sony did not (at least to my knowledge) offer any kind of trade in program for TXs or RXs that were in the range that are no longer legal as of last year. Because of this, I'm currently stuck with three sets of UWP-D11 transmitters and receivers as well as one URX-P03D two cannel receiver and one UTX-P03 plug-on transmitter. That's $2,830 worth of useless wireless systems sitting in my office that have essentially no future. I'm frustrated about this and don't understand why there isn't a way that Sony or …

I started out as a mixer a few years ago (after learning from other mixers and from this very forum!) and bought my first set of wireless: four very cheap but well kept Lectro UCR205D with four UM200C. Since then, I’ve upgraded - first some Audio Ltd 2040s and more recently a lot of Wisy gear. I kept two of my 2040s and gave away/sold for cheap the rest to fellow mixers starting out. But what to do with those very reliable, extremely sturdy but heavy and outdated Lectro units ? I’ve been trying to figure out if I can use the transmitters for some IFB-like use, but this well-loved yet mostly useless drawer in my gear vault raised this question for me: what do yo…

I am using Shure, I think, 226s or something rather, but the wire keeps failing on me so I have to get it replaced at customer service over and over. I am looking for good field/listening over ear headphones with high durability because I am always listening to music and the wire needs to be able to withstand my routines.

Looks like the nut on the Lemo connector may be a little loose and is causing mic disconnection. Does anyone know what type of nut is used on this? I'd like to buy the right tool to tighten this up instead of sending this back to the mothership if possible. I just tried calling Zaxcom but it appears that they are gone for the day. =(

I've just recently moved to Oakland, CA from Europe and I'm buying some wireless channels to use around here. I'm eyeing on Sennheiser 2000 to be my new addition for my sound bag. What block would you recommend to buy? I'm working mostly in Bay Area? I appreciate all thaughts! Thanks!

Working on a public-affairs documentary. Almost robbed a few days ago. Neighbor, a TV camop, has been robbed twice this year while on stories. Not isolated events. Some guns. Plenty of you have heard the stories. So lots of rethinking going on. Key questions: Should we shift or just drop this story? If we continue, how can we stay safe? [Edit: To be clear, this isn't war photography, "hanging with criminals while they do crimes," or anything. Just following some public-health and similar people while they do their work. And also, load in and load out of buildings in neighborhoods with increasingly brazen smash-and-grab theft and robbery.] But the question I'm …

Hi friends, I could use your advice. I have an SD744t and a MixPre-D. For mics I have a Rode NT4, an Usi stereo pair, 2 JrF contacts, 1 JrF hydro, and 1 Aquarian hydro. I'm going to north Australia (Cape Tribulation) in July and want to record mainly ambiances of the rainforest and beach the sound of a cassowary yelling at me I'm wondering what gear you would bring on a trip like this, so that I may consider upgrading or investing, Since I'd prefer to stay away from the Cassowary's deadly claw, I'm thinking maybe Tellinga parabolic system. Alternately I could maybe find an animal specialist that could work with me to find one and get the sou…

Hello All, So I'm on the greener side of sound only having been doing basic interviews, gathering wild recordings, and the like for about 2 years. I have no formal training (like many of you out there) but I have found myself obsessed with sound and have the bug. I landed a good gig and want to go wireless to and from the camera as we will be running around like bats out of hell. Being tethered is doable but not advised. The last time I did this shoot my snake was broken three times, cam opp had no desire to pay attention, and it looked bad for me. I am very diligent about moving with the camera guy, but its almost impossible. This is what I will be using as …

I have the MixPre 3 and Im looking for the most compact/cost effective way to power the unit. I know that there are at least a dozen ways to power the MixPre 3 from battery sleds to Hawkwoods HiRose/L Mount adapters Im trying to decide which would work best in my case. Does anyone have any experience with any of the solutions below, Im currently using a Samsung S8 phone charger connected to the MixPre 3. I'm a YouTuber mainly so Im not mobile but it would be great not to limit myself and be able to change position of the tripod occasionally or even go mobile if needed. I've listed the top solutions for my workflow which would choose in my situation if you have other optio…

I'm looking to purchase a good indoor mic for indie shoots. I'm considering the MKH50, but wanted to get the opinions from this forum on any experience you may have had with this mic. What other options do you recommend? Thanks! Darlene

I've been buying stuff and fluffing up my toolbox with the usual barrels, adapters, cables and connectors. Any secret weapons we should all know about for typical or atypical situations that you're finally ready to talk about? Any 'once in a lifetime' war stories are welcome.

Looks like I've got the opportunity to travel to Guatemala and India/Nepal within the next few months. I want to record every crazy sound and ambience I come across to add to my personal library. If anyone else does field recording I'd like to know what your travel setup is like. I'll be backpacking so I want to keep it super light. I'm thinking along the lines of a 416 for spot FX and perhaps the BP4025 for ambience. Both pistol gripped. Is there a blimp that will work with both of those? I'd love to buy a 302 if only it had an internal recorder. The new Fostex r302 seems like a good option, but I'm open to others. Cheers as always.

I have the KT Systems harness with the waist belt and the light weight Porta Brace harness without the waist belt and have had a bad neck/upper back lately. Anyone got any suggestions?

I currently have the Microtrack as my transcript recorder, which works fine as long as I am stationary and plugged into AC power. It sucks for on the run transcripts because of battery life. I use on of theose energizer cell phone chargers to continuiously supply power on the run, but when In record pause for a lengthy period of time It went into charge mode and I lost a recording in the process of moving locations. I looked at the Edirol R-09. Interal AA batteries are the best for ENG bag work, but the unit seems very fragile for the rigors of bag work. I see here some have mentioned the line in jack breaking !! Can this unit stand up to field bag work ? The Zo…

I'm just curious, having never used one, but Trew has a bunch of Lectro M-150 and M-152 lav mics available (and they've been there for a while now) for $100 a pop. Are they any good? Worth upgrading from the lame Sennheiser stock mics that come with a G2 set? Or should I just spring for a pair of B6's?

hi guys, again i look up for you guys for your experience and knowledge.. i m about to start a long project of documentary work apparently needing a lot of solo work booming/recording for single system recording. i m considering getting a sd 302 since production wants only 1 boom + 2 lavs (lectros smqv's, cos 11's with a dual hybrid reciever). potentially sending wireless through a new lectro sma bodypacks /dual reciever on cam... my main question is: what boom/mic setup would you optimally use for making lightest / better performance kit for long days of booming. i m thinking a mkh8050 all around mic with a carbon fiber internal cable boompole... wh…

Hi everybody, I'm soon going to buy my first boompole. Sometime ago I tried an Ambient QX from a local rental company and I liked how it did perform, so I'm thinking about ordering this one. Can anybody post about their experience with their QX poles? What are the pros and cons of using them? I'm mainly concerned about stiffness, handling noise and how smooth, durable and reliable the joint connections are. I WON'T be using the pole with an internal cable, and I'm in Europe. Thanks in advance for the input.

Hi all, Need to send some shotguns out with Sony Z7Us and EX3s for Doc-style shooting, was wondering what your favorites were. Have had decent results w/ 416s and Me-66s. Anyone out there have experience with the Sennheiser MKE 600? Other recommendations? Thanks!
