Hi Folks! I have a Sennheiser MKH 418 M/S mike, and sincerily, although it has a beautifull sound, I'm very unhappy with this mike's self noise, specially the S capsule, which is really high to my standards. I'd like to have suggestions about the most silent stereo M/S mikes, in order to choose a new one! Thanks Tony Muricy Rio de Janeiro

Hi folks! I have a Sennheiser MKH 418 M/S stereo mike, and although it has a beautifull sound, I'm very unhappy with this mike self noise, specially the S capsule, which is usually very high for my needs. This is more noticeable specially when I record nature and/or more quiet and delicate atmospheres, but even for urban sounds I find it's background noise very high and annoying. I'd like to know which are the most silent M/S mikes in order to choose a new one for me. Thanks Tony Muricy Rio de Janeiro

I am about to start a new traveling job. Do any Ktek Boompoles fit into a 1510 Pelican case or a 1550 Pelican case?

I know I've seen the answer to this question on here before, but after countless searches I can't seem to find it. I have UCR411's and UCR201's - which would be better to use for a camera hop? I *think* I should be using the 201's because the 411's will be able to handle having the transmitters closer to them in the bag than the 201's would. Is that the right thinking? *edit* fixed a typo. Using 411's, not 401's

I met a fellow sound man on a job last week and he went off on me about my using Lectro 401s' as recievers in my bag! I went from Sony to Lectro about a year ago and it was what I could afford at the time. I have had zero issues with this setup.... an hm 2 smvs' and 2 401s' block 19. The only possible shortcoming is the permanenet antannae ! This gent weny on about increased range with 411s' and 401s' are only for camera hops? I see lectro says that same thing in their literature. Am I wrong using 401s' in my bag? Thanks for your thoughts/advice on this matter, JHW

Hi I'm looking to upgrade my radio system and Im favoured towards 2 Lectroconices systems. Most of my work is documentary and reality based shows with a basic bag kit of 2 to 3 wireless radio mics. I'd appreciate advice and opinions from current Lectrosonics users, it's a big investment after all!! Im guessing the advantage of the SMQV is the longer battery life over the SMV. But it seems to me this is really only an advantage when using the higher power outputs. Is longer battery life a better option than smaller size? Then... are the LMa or UMa a better option than the SMV or the SMQV? And if so why? Now receivers? One SRb5P two channel recei…

Hi, I am currently using older Block 21, 22 and 25 gear. I have not followed the latest news about which blocks have been or are likely to be ineligible for production use, but I am beginning to shop for new gear. The new Lectrosonics multi block gear appeals to me and my current use habits lead me to think the B1 band will be a good choice. The little bit of recent reading I have done suggests that the C1 band (blocks 24, 25, 26) has been sold off and so should be disregarded for new gear. How about A1 vs B1? Thank you.

I am having a hard time to find a not too stiff but nevertheless stable mic cable to use with my double MS setup - my dealer first sold me a couple of seven-conductor-XLR-cables that where extremely buckling resistant, and the alternative ones he offered after werent not much better in that respect. Does anyone have recommendations which cable manufacturer and cable types to check out? Obviously, this is about seven-conductor mic cables. Thank you very much!

I see in the Which microphones do you carry on your kit? thread question there are several who have both 416 and CS3e and I'd be very interested to know how they compare please? I've been meaning to arrange a comparison myself but have never quite managed to get around to it yet. And this leads on to another question - rather than divert the original question of the thread I thought maybe I should start a new thread? Is this a better thing to do - start a new thread in this case or not? thanks Mick

Hello everybody, I have been following discussions here for a long time and find this place a valuable source of information with many experts and just want to say I really appreciate this site and all the knowledge people share. I am about to do a long term field work, probably in a remote area, and want to make an ethnographic movie. Topic: everyday life of a local musician(s). So the highest audio quality is most important. Any interview can easily transform into a musical piece. So far I have been using SD 633 with a pair of DPA4006s or 4060s as an AB for recording musical performances. Sometimes using 4060s as spot mics - together with us…

Hello everybody, what do you think would be good to get as a monitor that can record as well. It's not an absolute necessity for our jobs but could be nice. Also good to be able to zoom on screen to check lavs. The pix E5 or E7 are discontinued and hard to find used. Atomos or Shogun are extremely noisy. Blackmagic video assist a bit less but still. What are your thoughts?

Hi all, I wana buy an MS stereo boom solution for my documentery and reportage jobs. At the moment I am working mostly with an Neumann RSM 191. Great sound, but very sensible at handling noices, wind, RF influences... I also do not like the extra Matrix box. Just one thing more in my bag, that can break in the fild. I was thinking to buy an used MKH 30 + MKH 60. I like Sennheiser, but it is an heavy and big solution. I do not understand, why Sennheiser does not make an 8 from there new MKH8000 product line? Maybe Shoeps? ...generaly I am not shure tu buy an all in one MS mic or an two mic solution. Is the whole system more sensible to wind, because, the si…

This is a popular dutch tv show. I was wondering which radiomic they use and which pattern? It doesn't sound like a omni directional because it's not picking a lot of movement noises. http://dewerelddraaitdoor.vara.nl/media/309850 I once used a sanken cos11 for a sitsown interview like this bit it picked up more clothing noises than these ones. Very curious to know!

They have the modular system, the supershield systems, and the custom fit to a specific mic system... I plan to have a shotgun for exteriors and a hyper or super for interiors, so the shotgun could stay in the zeppelin to make it quick to get to work. So, not so sure if I really need a system that I can reconfigure with a modular setup, but I do like flexibility if I decide to use it for something different in the future. There seems to be a pretty good price range from $300 - $650, but not sure what to pick (or why I might select one model VS another). And to top it off, then they have their newer Cyclone series. Help?

I own 5 Sanken COS-11 lav mics of various vintages and was wondering if anyone knows what ranges of serial numbers include the various versions: s, x, and d? It would be nice to know what version I'm really getting when buying used, or even new! I found no information about it on Sanken's web site. In case there is no clear answer, I'm going to share all but the last two digits of my serial numbers and encourage others to do the same. Perhaps we can reveal the break point in serial numbers for the different versions. 909XX - black COS-11s 940XX - black COS-11s 982XX - black COS-11s 1057XX - black COS-11x 1136XX - white COS-11d The only way I know what …

I am looking at a Schoeps kit for documentary work. Currently have only MKH 416 and DPA 4063 lav. Many situations don't work with these mics: Stationary single person interview (3-10ft to subject) – Can lock in on subject at +/-15 degrees – Usually inside but sometimes outside. Walking, outside interview with Steadicam (6-12ft) – Subject can get off-center, maybe +/- 30 degrees. Discussion with 3-5 people (6-12ft.) - Spread across 120-180 degrees – Often in a barn, winery, or outside. I know it is preferable to use much shorter mic-to-subject distances, but if you're talking with farm or vineyard workers on-the-job, they don't easily stand …

I'm the "documentarian" for our garden club. Used to shoot just photos of guest speakers, I now want video. I have a Canon Vixia HF G10, but like anything, if I want to get the speaker, I'll need a mic. Since we do hands-on work in our field (sometimes IN a field), I'm looking at a wirelessa lav mic kit. Second, I'd like the presenter to also take questions from the audience, so now I need a handheld mic. Third, I have a Rode shotgun mic that I use for my children's school performances, I can use this for background. Lav, handheld, stereo shotgun: that's 4 channels. Budget: $500 $1000 $1500 (firm) This is MY mad money and I'm at the level of pain and doub…

I am using all MM400 TX now and have polled a number of people off group and want more feedback, I have found that RED Band Countryman B6 is the best choice for all situations with MM400 With the Sanken cos-11 I have found that I tend to reach for regular type about 60% of the time and RED Dot rest of the time. I don't like the noise floor of mm400 if I have to turn in up past 11 ( 40%) with a softer spoken person on a RED Dot What are most of you using with MM400?

I have recently acquired 3 of these and they all seem to be in working order. They came with a WRT-27 xmitter which is in the STL 900 MHz band. They sound fine here in the shop. Is this a silver version of the ECM 50? Are there power supplies with bayonet mount still around? Thanks, Ty Ford
