Not sure if anyone else is fed up with a producer coming up to you in the middle of shooting a scene and asking for an IFB. Then I hastily grab a pair of crappy tangled headsets and then make sure batteries are charged and then hand them to the producer. I have not tried these new bluetooth headphones, but I'm sure it is possible to say have one bluetooth source or wireless frequency which can be amplified wirelessly and then the producer walks up you and you hand him a set of just cans that he switches on and away they go with decent sounding audio no less. Anybody out there trying this or have tried and failed? Example: http://www.amazon.com/Bose-AE2w-Blueto…

A couple of sites are showing the use of the Brite View Air SyncHD as a way to broadcast HD signals up to 100+ feet: http://nofilmschool.com/2010/11/air-synchd-wireless-hi-def-video-village/ http://www.cinema5d.com/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=22803 Over at reduser.net they started talking about the ASUS wicast as a solution, but quickly turned their attention to the Brite View: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=51483 One of the posts to take note of was from the cinema5d site: "Hello Users of Cinema 5D! This is NOT an OFFICIAL Brite-View press release, however... There is a camera specialized unit in development with: Camera Mounting Ability Battery …

I have had aseveral requests lately for a second headset. Someimes I am able to give the producer a set of cans they can plug into the monitor (sdi) , but I realize I should invest in an IFB setup. My question is which one? I have used Lectro r1's and they seem really well built. I see they now have frequency agile IFBT4 and R1A. Does anyone have experience with this setup and what else in addition to tx and rceiver would you recomend. Earpiece/power ac&bds cable? Thx in advance for your input. JHW

On my current show the producers want a wireless ear wig for the talent. Does any company make a self contained system that using a walkie talkie. I know I could use a Comtek and induction loop but I would prefer to just give the producer a walkie talkie and not be involved in it.

Hi All, I will be heading for Europe in a couple of weeks, specifically Italy, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and UK. Does anyone know of a "frequency finder" for these areas?? I will be using minimal RF devices, just booming interviews mostly, but want to be able to throw a wire on if the need arises. Thanks -Jason

Hi all, Im not sure if this is new, but I just came across it and was wondering if anyone uses it or thinks it might be a good/bad idea? http://www.teradek.com/ Many of us use iPads for cl-wifi or script reading etc. anyway, so why not use it as a monitor as well I thought? Plus no BNC trouble for one man bands and it can stream to an iPhone as well, so boom ops with personal monitor attached to the boom maybe? I suppose its not very cheap but neither are small HD monitors. What do you think? Taskin

I'm working at E3 at the LA convention center over the next few days- It's pretty much going to be a free for all with all the crews from around the world being there. Does anyone have any tips on how to stake your claim with your wireless mic frequencies.- I have a presenter walking around wearing a lav and using a wireless handheld to interview people. I also will be using a Zaxcom stereo hop to camera- tho I'll keep a breakaway cable handy just in case. I have a list of frequencies that the venue is using so I'll stay well clear of those, and I'll start off by finding the best frequencies I can and I'll never switch off the transmitters so if anyone else scans ne…

I've been using Sennheiser SK5012 transmitters paired with EK 3041 receivers because they're cheap on ebay. But it's old tech. Do they sound better than cheap current generation systems? Or is this the best bang for the buck? I'm guessing the analog amp circuitry is good since these were high end models, but that better transmission quality exists with newer digital radios.I have them paired with DPA 4060 lapel mics.I've also messed around with lectrosonics MM400 transmitter and CR210D Receiver. Also deals to be had on these. Seems like its wireless tech is newer. Not sure which is better. Besides audio quality, I'm interested in compact size, long battery li…

Hi All, Hoping to use my Sennheiser G3 bodypack for live PA use - a public speaker/presenter standing at a podium giving a corporate Powerpoint presentation. Medium sized meeting rooms/halls with stand mounted PA system. I just have the standard G3 lav that came with kit - not good, I know - feedback prone too. Any suggestions for stage use lav under these conditions? Cardioid versus Omni, brand, models, etc. Thanks very much. Best regards, Dave

Hello group. I once was able to look up laws and licensing for using wireless mics in the UK here: http://www.jfmg.co.uk/ But that link is no longer active. Can anyone help shed some light on what a visiting recordist needs to do when shooting in the UK? This document has been helpful: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vPn_iMiK1ux6aWtnh5fGphATnNj-dBnVtfDW8ZaE9LE/edit#gid=0 but am wondering if I still need to purchase a license etc? Thanks in advance.

Hi Guys! I've been a Lectro user for many years, but now I'm thinking about buying new wireless mikes for me, and I'm considering new options. Among all the qualities I need from a new wireless system, there's a very important one I'd like to ask you about, which is based on your personal experiences: general maintenance costs and workaround times. This is something that may be very high! I like Lectrosonics very much, as I find their service usually fast and reasonably priced, not to mention the general quality of their gear. But what do you say about other wireless companies, like Zaxcom, Audio Ltd, Sennheiser? I'll apreciate any feedbacks you can give me about …

Hi I did this gig yesterday at a large conference center. For some reason I got major radio-interference on my boompole mic, wich was wired with a standard XLR. Meanwhile my wireless lavs were not effected at all, so strange. After checking all my gear I asked a guy who worked there and he tolled me they had a wireless internet access in that particular room I was getting interference in. Could that somehow have gotten into my boom signal, through the cable or maybe even the mic? I've never experienced this before. Thanks / Rasmus

Hi all, I have 2 audio ltd mini's tx both with sanken cos 11 and CXIR receivers. The problem is that I hear the noise modulating after the dialog. I hear it in both receivers so the mic, receiver and transmitter doesnt seem to be the problem..,Does this sound familiar? I don't know what the problem is, on location it's hard to hear, but when testing at home in quiet space I can hear it very softly. Anyone experienced this??

I need to get a pair of wireless mic systems for basic ENG production. My budget is around $2,000. I'd love to get the Lectrosonics 400 series, but that's outside my budget. I've considered the Lectrosonics 100 series or maybe even the Sennheiser EW 100 series. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi all, I've tried to search for this and couldn't find a thread, please let me know if you've seen one already. As a director I'm trying to find the golden director's headphones for being on set: - On ear (over ears) - Lightweight - not too large or bulky, because I would want to take them off and on and hang them around my neck when not rolling - Wireless - but not bluetooth, because it needs to have an adapter that plugs into the 1/8" input on a comtek Is there such a thing? I've been searching far and wide for this and haven't come across anything yet. Most wireless headphones seem to operate by bluetooth to connect to phones and…

Are there any attachments for K-tek Booms similar to the Loon Wing that will allow for a plugon transmitter on the pole to have some protection. I have seen this: http://www.pro-sound...egory_Code=Ktek Which I cant find it on the Ktek site though. But wanted to see if there were any other designs out there? Something custom maybe?

Hi all, Was wondering if anyone had any experience with the VT4026 adapter. I would like to use this between my Schoeps CMIT-5U and a Lectro transmitter. I know there is the Denecke but its too big to attach at the tip of the boom and the VT website says its for VT microphones. But surely it could work with other mics no? www.vt-switzerland.com/en/vt4026-phantom-power

Hi everybody, I'm new to the group (this is my first time posting.) I've searched for answers to this but didn't see anything on this specific topic, so here I am At this point, I'm using Sennheiser G3s for my wireless. I was hoping to run them from my bags power distro (Remote Audio BDSv4, with NP-L7 batteries) so I bought Sennheisers DC2 power adapters and Remote Audio BDSCPT output cables. Now, I wired up one of my wires, but every time I've used it I've gotten low level background hum. I've heard that this is a common problem with these adapters, has anyone else here had this problem? And if so, how did you fix it? I'm open to any ideas!

Hi all, I've been working as an assistant and boom operator under many different local mixers recently and I've come across a technical setting that I dont understand. Lots of mixers set the output level on their wireless receivers to (-20) and make up the gain on their mic preamps rather than setting the input on their mixers to line and leaving the output at say 0. I've read the technical information and guides on the (specifically) lectrosonics website, and they state that the receiver output attenuator does not affect the signal to noise ratio. Do people lower the output gain in order to achieve greater dynamic range on a voltage level, or is there a different reason?

Okay... Now that feeds to HD cameras have become a very common subject and a concern for many of us, I thought I'd start a new thread to "update" the topic. Here is my personal issue. I have 411 receivers. If you set the "test" tone at 00 (0dBu) on the receiver, it's output level is -20dBFS. When I am sending a feed to camera, I like to set the UM400 transmitter so that my -20dBFS tone shows up as -20dBu on the receiver scale. That way I will never engage the limiters on the UM400, which I think suck, even if I do hit the limiters on my recorder. Problem now is that the transmitter is outputting my tone at -40dBFS into the camera. SO even though I like to reco…

Hello all, (First time post sorry it this is covered already) I want to know what people are using to wirelessly monitor the “tape“ return from camera. Stereo/mono? Cheap or expensive? Brands? How do you do it? Working on run and gun shows generally and the productions almost always use the hot mix im sending to camera for broadcast. Used kits on large reality/documentary productions before with the IFB transmitter attached to the camera and have had the option to monitor my return feed. This was great, however i had no individual control over the IFB send, which was a real problem sometimes. My personal kit I have no opti…

Joe Pfeil did a fantastic short video showing how easy and how quickly you can set up your wireless with Zaxcom Nova. No need for Wireless Designer, Freq Finder, etc., just a few simple button presses and you're good to go. The video is very short (since the setup is very quick).
