I would find it very convenient to be able to have remote access to the compact flash card for my 744T. Instead of reaching around behind the machine to insert and remove the card, I would like to have an adapter plugged in to the slot with a wire leading to a compact flash reader, or something of the sort. That way I could have the flash card in a more accessible place. It would also cut down on the risk of a mishap when inserting a card because I woudn't be regularly plugging directly into the machine. It would seem something of the sort ought to be available but I haven't seen anything in my searches. (Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.) If it's not ava…

I got my first DPA 4098 (goosneck style) microphone today and I have been putting it through its paces. I already had glowing reports from Whit Norris and Jan McLaughlin, who both have these amazing little microphones. Whit has been using them with Lectrosonics transmitters and loves them, Jan has been using with Zaxcom transmitters and has not reported any of the anticipated problems with respect to the lower voltage supply from Zaxcom transmitter. The theory is that with lower supply voltage (they are rated to require 5 vdc and Zaxcom xmtr puts out 3 vdc) there would be an increase in self-noise floor and a decrease in overall headroom (dynamic range). So far, in the si…

I thought I'd start a new thread so it would be easy to find and be more easily searchable. So far the Quantum alkaline AA's are looking very good; 2.2 Ah for the Quantum versus 1.2 Ah for a Panasonic AA at a heavy drain (SM transmitter) of 400 mAh. That's an 83% improvement. (!) The second run is at 500 mAh and I got 2 Ah. This is an SM drain toward the end of the battery life. Pretty impressive. I still have to run the Panasonic at 500 mAh but it will probably only make 1 Ah. Adding to my original post, the Panasonic at 500 mAh made 1.1 Ah while the Quantum made 2.0 Ah for an 82% advantage again. It looks like the Quantum claims are very real. In an SM at 1…

Hello Everybody, I am in the market for an IFB system for multiple clients to monitor the program audio. Aside from the cost difference between Comtek and Lectro (in their latest generation, not the old stuff), are there any other "real world" benefits between one and the other? Thanks, Steve

Due to the responce on the JW sound group we have decided to make an optional fader attachment that will add 8 more rotary faders to the Nomad. The panel should allow for both fader control as well as Zaxnet control of wireless transmitter gain. We will announce price and delivery at a later time. Thanks to all for your feedback. Hi Everyone...I purchased two Denecke TS-C slates in May of '06. Recently they have been giving me and camera fits. What happens is they try to re-jam themselves. Sometime several times each day, sometime never. I Can't take it any longer. Has anyone out there had problems with these small slates?.

Yes, as if we need yet another thread but given Nomad lite is essentially a 664 so far as inputs and track counts and most of the features. Thought we could do a rough comparison over which one might be for some people over another. I've attached some pictures for size comparisons. Zaxcom's Nomad Lite does have some nice features like NeverClip and their "soft knee compressor" vs. SD's hard limiter. Obviously the size is different. The weight of the Nomad is 3.8 pounds without batteries vs. 4 pounds 12 ounces on the 664. Sound Devices has a good history of reliable machines and easy to use menu structures. Nomad changes the game with the way the unit mixes (eg. 1 gai…

I have been using 4 x 411A's with a UMCWB coupler for the last few years but am now finding I need higher wireless count and want to invest in multiple SRc receivers and either an Octopack or PSC Six PAck. I have relied on my 411's for 10 years now and am still a little hesitant to replace them with the small dual channel receivers.. I want to hear reports from people in the field using SRC's.. should I have any reservations about moving to them over the 411s..? Sorry if this is being discussed already but I didnt find anything much on searching...

I thought perhaps it would be better to continue discussion of the new RX12 in its own thread, rather then in the NAB '14 thread. Quoting Glenn: I have some questions about some of this functionality: For remote control via Nomad, I'm assuming this is done VIA Zaxnet only? Perhaps there will be a separate "remote control" with full-time monitoring and dedicated hardware controls at some point in the future? For "remoting", is there some kind of single connection for audio or are we talking about a large multi-conductor snake? Is there some kind of way to get more then 8 channels of AES audio into a Zax recorder, or would we have to add analog lin…

Glenn, I am interested in adding/replacing some wireless to my kit (currently Lectro Venue - 4x21 & 2x22, along with one each 411a, 6xSM, 2x400, and a plug-on). I am interested in the TRX900AA for wireless boom due to its flexibility for recording and IFB reception and AA battery usage. Is there some sort of quality difference between the QRX100 mentioned above versus the RX900? I like the idea of buying one receiver (which also seems to be an IFB transmitter) and 2 transmitters with the IFB reception option. The QRX100 is described as for use with a video camera. Any reason it can't be on the cart or in a bag with external 12v power? It also appears to h…

I took deliver of my 633 this morning and have spent about 3 hour playing with it and setting it up below are my initial thoughts and observations: Bag Choice: I got it to fit into my 302 Petrol bag but it was too small for my needs. If I was doing a simple 2 wire and boom gig straight to camera I may choose this bag but does not offer me enough space for everything I need. I have a large selection of bags and think the Petrol 601 is the best choice. I needed 3 of the bottom pillows in the bag to get it to sit high enough but with a small amount of velcro it is very secure in the bag. I have 2 SRB comtek IFB and all needed parts on the bag with plenty of space to ad…

Hi gang, I usually just lurk and sponge off of the great wisdom here, but I've been wondering something lately and wanted to pose the question. I've been looking at portable recorders lately. I'll probably be purchasing one soon (most of my work has been recorded in-camera lately. I'm not doing major stuff yet that would require a Nagra or SD788 or anything). I just wondered what everybody's take was on the huge price difference in recorders. Here's an example. Assuming all you need is a basic 2 track portable digital recorder, it seems there are quite a few options. At one end, the Marantz PMD670 is a 2 channel recorder that saves in MP2, MP3, and 16 bit PCM aud…

I have a couple of Sony UWP wireless systems and I love them. However, I've found that the biggest downside to using them is that few rental houses carry mics wired for Sony. Here's my question: would it be possible to make an adapter that allowed G3 wired mics to be used on a Sony UWP transmitter? These links from Sanken make me think that it is possible: http://www.sanken-mi...index.cfm/11.27 (Diagram for wiring a Cos-11 pigtail for a Sony UWP) http://www.sanken-mi...index.cfm/11.25 (Diagram for wiring a Cos-11 pigtail for a Sennheiser G3) The wiring styles are different (2-wire vs 3-wire) but it looks like the only physical difference in the wiring…

ALL TEST WITH WHIP ANTENNAS SIZE BLOCK 22 AND FREQUENCIES SET BLOCK 25 I just received a zaxcom qrx200 RX. It seams a little heavier then qrx200. Buttons feel better. Fitted fine in my qrx holder. I installed and fired it on. It has the same menu as qrx100 with added block selection option. I set it up to block 25 and started a scan. Scan is a lot slower. Maybe a little faster then lectro but slower then qrx100q. It does not make any difference to me since I never scan. I just scroll through the freqs and find a clean one. The lack of heavy intermodulation with digital signals allows me to just select random clean frequencies. As far as sound I used AES and di…
