Hey Everyone, I just got a 788T and am wondering how you usually set up your boom op comm feed. I didn't realize when I bought it that it doesn't have the same option as the 552 as far as a private line communication option. It seems you must buy the $2,000 control surface (CL-9) in order to get any sort of private line comm to your boom op, and even then, I'm not totally sure. I got the 788T with the CL-8 controller. I'm thinking of just running my boom out analog 1, into a small headphone amp box, and then to my boom op. What are you guys doing? I had thought about also just making a TA3F to 1/4" female cable, but am not sure how annoying this would be to…

Hello, all. I'm new to JW, but I've been following the discussions via RSS for a few weeks (creepin'). I'm looking to rent a Nomad 6, 8, or 10 for a one-week short film production in western Virginia in December. I looked around online, but didn't see anything for rent. I emailed Zaxcom support, which quickly responded with Gotham and Pro Sound in NYC. I was hoping for something closer -- possibly in NC? Anyone know of a place that might rent a Nomad in VA, DC, MD, or NC? Apologies if this has been discussed here before -- I searched "nomad rental" and didn't see anything.

I've been trying to find this by searching the web, Lectro's home page, and here... looking for the part that sits around the XLR connector on the plug-on transmitters. Is this something that could be picked up at a local hardware store? Anyone know the part number, or proper name/specs? (yes, a call to Lectro on Monday, but this went missing today, and I'm shooting tomorrow as well) Thanks in advance!

Sorry in advance if that's the wrong place to put this thread. but I really need help on this. Are there anyone have Taiaudio's person-in-charge email ? I made a payment for two sets of Wisycom MCR54 bundle. and the sell person only told me they don't have any wisycom in stock. and I asked my money back. But no one really talk to me. Thanks in advance if anyone knows their emails. Hiro

So I'm using my new CL Wifi today on a shoot for Hasbro Toys. I have some sync sound to record later, but most of my work today will be playback of a 30 sec track. I was hoping to spend the day sitting at craft services, far, far away from the lighting crew. Sadly, I have to sit at my cart, and move my entire arm to hit the play button. A serious letdown. Uhhhhh.... My arm....

Hello fellow sound people! I've been looking into finding the perfect solution for traveling with my gear while having it as compact and functional as possible. I had an orca OR-26 until recently but its quality was rather lacking and the padding wasted a lot of space. Also it tended to fall over, which ja bad because I use the trolley/case as stand for my audio bag when doing interviews. So right now I am using a Peli Air 1535 case with trekpak insert - and its ALMOST perfect. My issue isbthst the case is just large enough to get my essentials in there, but not everything that I need for bigger gigs. Also the wheels are tiny and t…

Maybe I'm missing something but I cant get my 788T to save input 2 routed to track R pre fade. It keeps jumping back to post fade.. Any ideas? posting here while I wait for SD to get back to me.. Seem to have to go through my routing menu a few times to make sure everything saves correctly. Maybe I just need more sleep!?

I've come back to the Allen & Heath MixWizard 14:4:2 mixer. I've looked at Cooper, love the Sonosax , the Solice all at the top of the food chain for DC powered mixers. I'm not totally positive but I believe this mixer will run on the auxiliary DC backup .The mixer features are numerous. 10 mic inputs, direct outs, inserts, 4 buss, mix matrix, aux sends ...... Price point at less than $1550. I've used the 01vr96 on studio productions, great mixer but I'm a little challenged on doing the inverter route. I would value this forums opinion. Thanks. I've been noticing that my 788 has started sounding a little distorted when it's only hitting its peaks at around -14 dbFS (around first yellow LED)... I thought to change the meter scale and it didn't seem to alter anything. Is it just for reference or does it actually change what the VU reads? Also opinions on distortion thng would be great too lol. I checked all my radio inputs and they're fine as well...

Hello mixers! I’m thinking on upgrading some equipment and I would love to hear about the new DPA lavaliers with the “core” label. How are they compared to the classic ones? Are you using them? Which model do you recommend for narrative and interviews? Currently I’m using the DPA 4061 for all my lavs but I’d love to upgrade to the core of it’s worth it. Thanks in advance. Manuel. I have 2 older Rycote conn box systems, and the NC3MZ connector pulls apart - pins come out with the mic when disconnecting. Is there a fix, or just replace connector? Best, Jim Rillie Production Sound Mixer

I found some nice small cases from MCM Electronics: http://electronics.mcmelectronics.com/search?cataf=&view=list&w=22-15405&x=-840&y=-88 They are $9.99 but if you use source code A30601 you can get them for $7.99! till Aug 4. I bought a few and they a fairly rugged. They come with grid foam liners and a pressure relief valve.

I'm looking at a PSC RF multi SR six-pack, the slightly older model with the D-sub connector on the back, to give me addition receiver capacity should I need more than the three slots that the SL6 provides. Receivers in my SL6 have the audio output set at -6 and this works well for a range of levels in. With the SRc in the PSC rack and plugged into input 7 of the 688, (line only), I needed to increase the output level of the receiver to +5, (ie the highest), to feel reasonably comfortable that the iso levels were not too low. Is this the experience other users have had with this or similar setups? Thanks Dudley

Is there a tap/recorder device that, once hooked up to your phone, will automatically activate to record both sides of a conversation? A.

Thought I’d share a new favorite piece of kit I picked up last year for the purpose of ambient recordings on documentary projects. The siriu 5c traveller folds up super small, and making recordings while not freezing up my body trying to be perfectly still has been a welcome change haha.

So it sounds like I will be awarded my first gig overseas...to rent or not to rent? That is the question. I've heard customs can be a major pain when traveling with gear. A friend of mine suggested fedex, shipping everything to the hotel, but that kinda makes me nervous. Does anyone know of a decent rental house in Germany? Or should I suck it up and bring my gear with me. Any thoughts or insight would be helpful. Thanks, Andrew

I am looking to rent 2 Sanken CUB 01s for a shoot Tuesday and Wednesday in NJ. I have tried Gotham, Pro Sound Services, and Lentini, and they either are out on a long term rental or don't have them. The CUB 01 are my first choice because we are shooting a continuation of scenes that we shot in December in the same locations. The new footage will be cut together with the older footage and I want to maintain a continuity of gear. Does anyone have any ideas for other rental houses in NY? One place recommended I call Coffey Sound in LA and see if they will ship them out (if they have them). Thanks. Marc

I've been using a BST-75 for years without ever thinking about it. I have 12, 216 receivers tuned to ch 41 and they've worked perfectly until recently. I am working on a big set with lots of other rf from various departments and the director has complained that he experiences loud intermittent squealing while he is on set. I want to change the channel to let's say 44, because I know that another mixer has had success in a very similar situation with that channel at that location with virtually the same equipment from all departments. What do the 10 switch positions translate to on the channels of the receivers?

I want to monitor the sound at the recorder. I have a monitor input on the Shure FP33 and was wondering if I should feed the mixer monitor input from the 1/4 headphone jack output of the Marantz PDM 617 or should I use the RCA. Basically if you were me and had this gear, what would you do? (please don't say sell it;) Thanks for your time, AKf

I’ve noticed that over the past few years of general abuse my HM butt plug unit has gotten “loose”- it rotates a bit after being plugged into a boom or mic, and with certain booms I get a bad connection sound when its rotated or not quite positioned correctly. Is there a way to tighten it? Can’t see any obvious way to disassemble the xlr connector portion of the unit. I’d love to try and tackle the issue without having to send it back to the mothership- anyone done this on their own before?
