Hey everybody, I was just thinking about a small issue I come across almost everyday while shooting with my 788/CL-9 Setup. Every now and then, let's say 2 out of 5 times, the CL-9 doesn't power up when I turn on the recorder. So no LEDs, faders and knobs don't do anything. It is connected though because when I unplug the USB cable, it says that the CL-9 got disconnected. When I plug the USB in again, it usually works fine. Sometimes I have to do it twice and sometimes the CL-9 mutes all the outputs after booting. I don't think it's a flaw that only my setup has because I had the same issue last year on a different 788 with a different CL-9. Since I'm pre…

Hello, I am thinking about power supply distribution etc. and considering how the popular distribution splitter boxes use 6 Amp Polyfuse Thermistor overload protection. I was curious to learn what the overload spec on the batteries I use. I looked up some specs. IDX NP-L7S 14.4V Lithium-Ion NP-1 Battery (68Wh) : Maximum Discharge Current = 4.8A/53W with Battery Protection: Over charge, Over discharge, Over current, Temperature. Sony BP-GL65 14.4V Lithium-Ion V-Mount Battery (65Wh) = could not find any information at Sony Pro I previously owned a camera system and when its technology was rendered worthless the V-mount batteries retained good…

Hey Guys, So, I was trying to record a timecode audio track on my Pro Tools rig and noticed that the output timecode signal on the 744T is always on. Even in record run mode, it is still outputting a signal. When I read it on a slate, it reads a static number, but when I plug the signal into an audio track, there is an audio signal coming out. Does anyone know if this is normal? Is the 744T just outputting the same number over and over? I had thought the audio signal would just mute when dropping out of record, but apparently it does not. Am I missing something? -Matt

Hi all, i'm putting together a recording rig to gather sound effects. I've got the 744T as my main recorder. Can you pros let me know where i can find info on using Sony camcorder batteries vs. generic ones. Do you recommend only using name brands? Are there potential problems i should know about with the cheaper batteries? Is there a risk in using them with my Sound Devices? Do they have the same power output over time as the Sony's? Does anyone know the difference in life span? if you have any advice for me i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time, P.

Hey folks, long time lurker first time poster. [edit: I actually forgot that I posted a few times on here before, so this isn't strictly true] I currently have a Sound Devices 552, but I'm making the sideways move into a 744T, since at the moment my work is mostly about recording rather than mixing. My question is about the case - at the moment I have a Portabrace which fits the 552 perfectly...I'm not sure which model it is exactly. I'm wondering if a 744T would fit in there too? What is the difference in size between the two machines? Cheers!

Hi Guys, I am about to venture out in the woods this weekend for a shoot. Problem is when doing some scouting yesterday I forgot about the whole idea of Ticks and had 8 of those little bastards all over me yesterday. Moving on, What should I do if My Rode Blimp gets ticks in it? I mean Yes I know I could spray my Blimp before hand with an anti tick spray. Kind I am using is Permethrin. But I wonder how it will affect my Mic. I am going to be Spraying the Blimp (without the mic in it of course) as directed for clothing ( A few hours before you head outside) But I still just wonder if I don't know, like, fumes from it can affect my mic? or something, I don't know Maybe i a…

I am cross-posting with the Zaxcom site support group.... I've been loving the Mix 12 for nearly a year now... but one annoyance, possibly unique to mine, possibly not...... Occasionally, my soft control buttons stick - and bad... the slate button and the talkbacks. Each incident takes my eyes off of the ball for a few seconds. It appears the holes cut into the panel might need a mild shaving. To do this would require taking off all of the knobs. Are there others out there with this experience? The pleasure of working with it far outweighs this problem, but I'm just putting it out there: The tolerances of the holes that are cut might on mine might …

Inspired by the build of simon's and pascal's bag i feel like giving a try to setting up a bracket for my lectro sr on top of my nomad 12. The idea of keeping it all closer to the body would be a real back saver unlike my current setup. Do you think the zaxnet antenna tx would interfer with the whips reception? Is that gonna be too little physical separation between the recorder and the receivers? The ideal setup would be two sr, one np1 and one power switch. I know that this is a HAT case but i feel like some people would be interested into knowing this as well. Thoughts?

My channel 2's gain is fixed on my Nomad. When I turn the gain up or down, it goes immediately back to a fixed position. I tried switching transmitters and receivers, but the problem remains on channel 2. That leads me to believe it's a problem on the Nomad itself? IMG_8916.MOV

I’m trying to remote roll a dv-824 and a PD6 simultaneously with one switch. I was reading in the fostex manuals about how when certain pins are grounded the functions are supposed to be activated.. IE RECORD, STOP.. I built a switch with a 3PDT toggle to control a GREEN/RED LED and separate ground to record and stop pins for two machines.. The LED works fabulously, but sadly the devices are not responding.. Does anyone know what I may have done wrong? All the connections are going where they are supposed to according to the manual.

Hello, I was searching for some other information and stumbled upon a statement that suggests that 470-512MHZ may be auctioned off in a few years. Is this idea accurate? Has the FCC made their intentions clear? I have recently purchased, and continue to shop for, radios below the 600Mhz line and am wondering if we are going to be squeezed from the bottom in 2020? Thank you. http://blog.rfvenue.com/2015/02/17/how-to-future-proof-your-next-wireless-microphone-purchase "The FCC would like to auction the T-band (470-512 MHz) around 2020. That is some time away, and the fate of remaining wireless microphones there is unclear. The FCC seems t…

Hey guys. Seached the internet and couldn't find anything. Basically my problem is with my comtek pr-216. It gets really really hot and drains the battery like crazy. I mean I use two batteries for one day which is something I have never knew could actually happened. I bought this comtek used but seemed in great shape. He had bad battery connectors because it had some battery acid on it. I took it apart and cleaned the terminals and I thought that would work but it still gets really hot. Anyone have an idea? Spanks

My cart isn't 19" so I need to find someone that can make me a custom made aluminum drawer. I've seen some company in the U.S. That makes these but can't find any I Europe. I I bought a half rack drawer but it's made of steel (weight a lot) and isn't really the right size. Anyone here know where to look? I'm located in Sweden. Kind regards John

Some thoughts on another board would seem to suggest that the Tascam HD-P2 cannot handle a tre Line level input (even though it's supposed to). Any comments from the knowledgeable people here? Thanks.

I hadn't heard of this company before, but they put together a pretty interesting portable recorder shoot out: http://www.wingfieldaudio.com/portable-recorder-noise.html#samples I found this link over at www.dvxuser.com today. I can imagine how this may not be scientific enough for everyone, but I thought the variety of recorders they tested is more through than usual. I think it's interesting how different the built-in mics sound (and how poorly the Tascam mics sound). The 702 is the clear winner to my ears, but there are a number of inexpensive recorders that hold up well, especially going line in. Also check out the battery life shoot out on that site: h…
