I wanted to use one of the aux busses of my Cooper mixer for a playback-mix but noticed that the dialogue came through the speakers too as it was on the other aux for Comtek-monitoring. Is that normal behaviour that much of a crosstalk? I used the direct out instead and it was clean. It just takes away the possibility to have more than one source on the playback-speakers (thats what I would need today ...) Cheers, Matthias

I am running into a frustrating issue with my new set up and I haven’t been able to find out Much about it on line because the DCHT is so new. I know I’m doing something wrong and hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. I am trying to route just the boom to my boom op and the mix to my director - both of whom are monitoring through M2R’s. I am using a 788t with a CL-9. The DCHT is plugged into outputs 1 and 2. Right now I am trying to route all this through the 788 routing menu. Originally I routed all the inputs to the right channel and the boom to the left channel. Then on the M2R of t…

It is my understanding that an Antenna Combiner combines multiple transmitting signals to a single antenna. An Antenna Splitter splits a signal from a single antenna to multiple receivers. For example the Shure PA421SWB or the Audio Techinca MCB4 combine the signals of their respective monitoring transmitters to a single antenna. I know that in some places a Combiner also refers to a Splitter, but generally speaking you "split" reception and "combine" transmission.

Is there a way to get the Sound Report from the HD on a 788? When you create the report, it saves it to the HD and the CF card. When you back up the Folder on the HD with the report in it, it does not copy over the report to whatever your backing up to, or so it seems. It only copies the Report over the one time you create it to the CF card.

Greetings all, All the recent buzz with digital mixers and I'm looking the other direction mainly because there are times where AC is not an option. So, looking at Analog Mixers I have questions about the AD256 / AD146. I've seen in person the AD149 but did not get a chance to listen to it or work with it. Curious why the AD256 is less expensive than the 149? I'm sure both are top notch performers and the 149 has an advantage if you want digital outputs, but is there something in the type of Mic Preamps on the the AD149 that make up the price difference?? Thx

My first feature film involved powering the camera (Mitchell BNC) off a rotary converter, which supplied a 50Hz pulse for the Nagra as well. I suppose the rotaries have been consigned to history books, but I was glad to have had experience with them. Here is the Wiki page that describes them: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotary_converter The one I used for film work had a couple of beefy 12 volt lorry batteries as the power source, which powered a DC motor. This turned a three phase alternator which supplied the energy to power the camera motor. I assume that the rotary supplied 110 volts (I can't remember) for the American Mitchell; but the pulse…

So I’ve been using a Sonosax SX-ST semi-regularly (not mine) and there’s a few things that still mystify me. Maybe some of the long time Sonosax users can enlighten me here. No output limiters? Really? I was surprised and asked Sonosax about this and was told that since it has always-on input limiters that one would never overload the output unless using a large amount of fader gain. Well then! I suspect the guys at Sonosax have never tried to mix a scene with mumbled whispers plus action even if that action is an unexpected folder slapping a desk or someone accidentally kicking a chair... when you’re adding 30dB of gain to pull out some ridiculous whisper just…

Hello, I just receive my first zaxcom system (QRX 100 and TRX 900 AA). I m an AUDIO LTD user since 10 years and I m happy to try new things. What are your favorites settings concerning the dynamic part, the expander part and the filter part of the TRX 900 (use with microphone)? I know it depends of the situation but I m sure that you have a basic set up. Thanks for your help. Olivier

Since so many new wireless products are going digital I thought it would be a good topic to discuss Lav mics that are designed to overcome Digital transmitter RFI. I know the Sanken COS-11d is one that comes to mind but what are some others? What are some that should not be used, like the Sony ECM-88?

I got some Belden RG-8X mini coax from a friend and I'm having a devil of a time finding a compatible 50 Ohm BNC connector and corresponding crimp tool/die. The cable has "YR44192" and "0988" printed on it, but neither seems to correspond to any of the usual four digit cable codes in the Belden catalog. It's a gray PVC jacket. Diameter is only very slightly wider than Canare star quad. Is this cable stock familiar to anyone and can anyone help? Thanks! Regards, Noah Timan

Hi everyone, Does anyone know of a place to rent a Comtek PR-216 receiver on a Saturday here in LA? A production I am working with tomorrow decided last minute that they need an additional one. If anybody happens to have a PR-216 that they wouldn't mind renting out until Monday, and lives near the Culver City area, please let me know.

Hello fellow recordist. Ive recently purchased a SD SL2 to complement my 833 and im struggling to get good reliable range when using. The setup is lectro's src's recievers 26, betso bowties and or whips. SMQV transmitters. Im also running 3 block 24 transmitters in the bag. Those overload lights drive me pottie, after turning down the rf sensitivity and a few tunes to no improvement I ended up flicked them off! . I'm just finding the sl2 very sensitive to outside rf and really inconsistent range. . On my current Job im carrying my reliable 688/sl6 combo for the days I need more range. And on the same setup and tune It's by a country mile more reliable. The…

Browsing Facebook this morning I find: And here are some preliminary spec/test results (that Rycote posted on Facebook...I have no inside info). I asked about the no filter/EQ/rolloff line, and Rycote wrote "will have to get back to you on that one with some updated testing" so perhaps they're still tweaking (or just haven't published) that...

A local Camera Rental shop who's gear I encounter every so often supplies Ambient ACL-203 Red Lockits with their packages, and send out an old Aaton Origin-C+ timecode generator for the AC's to walk around with to jam the Lockits on camera. On my jobs, the Audio Recorder is the TC Master, and I usually run out a cable for jamming instead - but I'm wondering if I can just jam the Origin C+ from my SD970 and use that? I have the one-page Aaton user guide for the device but it's unclear about jamming to an external source (as opposed to Comparing an external source to it's manually-set internal generator). Can any one shed any light on this? Of course I can manually set the …

Hey Guys, I have a bag with a Mixpre 10T in it and 4 channels of UCR411a's and 1 TRXCL3. I have always kind of had RF issues, certainly not great performance as I have had in the past when using this gear in other situations. Im just using the 1/4 wave antennas thats come with the UCR's and TRX. The TRX seems to do mostly okay but my lavs can be really spotty to the point I don't trust them as much as I need to. I do not work in an area where there is a lot of RF around, quite the opposite in fact as I work out on a massive ranch most the time. So nothing local is messing with me. I've cleaned up cabling as much as possible, and lift…

Hi everyone! I'm going to shoot a features film in Rotterdam. I've seen this: https://www.apwpt.org/regional-info-k-u/netherlands/index.php Reading this, it seems to be quite open but anyone has experience to share in the country or the city? I had the info that using wireless systems between 530Mhz and 690Mhz will work without problems but I'm using wireless between 470,100 and 537,575 Mhz for to mike actors and between 823 and 863MHz for IFB. Has anyone experience of this operating frequencies? Many thanks by advance, Bruno

I was wondering what’re SMQV users’ general level setting for DPA6061. I recently bought a 6061 from Pinknoise and asked it to be hardwired to TA5F. But I found it’s so sensitive that 15 appears to be my highest level on SMQV for normal dialogue. For any shouting, even 8 can lead the level meter on my Rx to reach the overmodulating sign(square sign). Is it normal? I’m very confused, considering 6061 is already the reduced-sens version of 6060, and I can’t help but doubt if the wiring is missing some necessary resistor.

Hi all, I've tried to search for this and couldn't find a thread, please let me know if you've seen one already. As a director I'm trying to find the golden director's headphones for being on set: - On ear (over ears) - Lightweight - not too large or bulky, because I would want to take them off and on and hang them around my neck when not rolling - Wireless - but not bluetooth, because it needs to have an adapter that plugs into the 1/8" input on a comtek Is there such a thing? I've been searching far and wide for this and haven't come across anything yet. Most wireless headphones seem to operate by bluetooth to connect to phones and…
