Hello Mr. Wexler, Considering forums, do you know if direct quotes from this forum can be printed without having to seek the request of the writer? This is considering using in a commercial sense. Do magazines like sound & picture for example ever quote subjects and writings from this forum? and is it legal to do so? and what considerations do you know must be taken into account to have it be legal... Thanks much! Tim

Okay, I'm the FNG around here as it were, but I have a suggestion regarding moderation. It's only a suggestion, and I do know how much work is involved in moderation forums, so I won't be offended either way. Maybe you're even already doing this, but a recent thread has motivated me to give this thought. I think that people should be able to disagree on just about anything and still be able to "get along", as long as when they disagree they stick to discussing the positive value of their own opinion. When it turns to putting down the other person, or even generalizing/classing people who hold an opposing view, perhaps warnings could be issued. I understand th…

Hello Jeff, You hear it all the time so it may not even register much, but this wonderful place is such a treasure to a new professional like myself, that I have to thank you for being so generous with your time and expertise, and being so instrumental to my professional growth. It was a tremendous milestone to have found this site. It gave me the virtual connection to the mentors that I was desperate to find. Having posted a few times, I got the courage to go to the Gallery of Sound Carts event (feeling like a fraud about to be found out) and talk to a CAS mixer whose work I greatly admire, and then met another JW member at one of our Usual Suspects and had a nice…

Anyone else having issues logging in to JWSoundgroup via tapatalk? I am getting a login error where it says that the administrator may have restricted access. Cheers, Jason

Mr. Wexler, A discussion on uninterested third parties leaving comments on posts for sale might be warranted. Other sites do have rules regarding this. http://www.dvxuser.c...-Before-Posting A comment such as "That's a bit pricey" or "such technology is dated" does have the effect of handicapping, or killing a sale thread. These comments I suspect, come innocently intended, from seasoned union pros regarding pieces of kit intended for novices. While knowlege is always helpful and appreciated, the question is: Who is entitled to kill a sale on JWSound? Scott

I've noticed in the WTB/WTS forum that folks are able to change the topic title when something sells. How is this accomplished?

When watching TV I usually can more or less tell how the sound of a certain scene was done, be it boomed, lavs or ADR. But from time to time I watch a scene where I have no idea how they could have gotten the sound they did, so I wonder "how did that sound person pull it off?" I remember that probably the thread that I learned the most from on jwsound was the Classic Perspective thread in which (among much more) I think Jeff described how the sound of those long walks in Woody Allen's Manhattan was achieved. So I thought it would be great to have an entire section on jwsoundgroup where people post scenes from an episode or movie they watched which hey're curious ab…

First of all, let me thank you for this invaluable blog. Great information, and nice people all around. I am a relatively new user and already find myself on here daily. I was hoping you could give me some names of audio post studios and hopefully contact names. I have just been hired as Executive Director of Audio Production for a new company called Palmera Pictures. We are based out of the Dominican Republic and are starting to build a full service Post Production Facility inside the country's premiere and most exclusive resort. In a nutshell, we will have complete Animation and Visual FX facilities and Full service Audio Post production studios. The i…

I was just about to post another reply to the lively thread about Poor Rado's difficulties getting his new toy into service. I agree with what you said about it not really being appropriate, especially as Rado seems prone to issues, and is also intent on not dealing directly with his dealer or the manufacturer, (remember his issues when he bought his Wireless, or his DPA Lav's ??) and many of his concerns seem to end up being operator errors, However, the thread did have some useful value, including the idea that including an approved media with products that record to media would be a good investment for the manufacturers... I think that the replies were bringi…

I've been thinking of this issue for awhile but was spurred to write by a recent series of posts on the topic of a good rental source in London. Faced with a last-minute booking, Nicholas (nhaudio) asked for recommendations of places to rent gear in London. Mike MIchaels immediately posted this response: very recently discussed... try some searching... Probably true but not very helpful to someone seeking help in a time-sensitive situation. Many posts seem to run to a pattern where similar issues will come up again and again but the person making the inquiry isn't skilled at finding the threads and simply asks the question anew. I think the site migh…

I come from a heavily moderated forum that has many rules/regulations to try to reduce the number of scammers active on their site. The way they regulate their "For Sale/Want To Buy," forums is that big ticket items (However much mods deem is high value) require some sort of vouch if possible. If not, the seller should put their real name and/or contact information and have some history on the forum via post count, etc. Another thing would be once an item is sold, the OP can edit their post or put up a new post within said thread stating that the item is sold and lock the thread. Just my .02.

Hi Jeff, I've been experiencing a strange phenomenon with photos when I upload them into posts... they all come in upside-down. They sit on my desktop and in iPhoto properly oriented, but lately, every photo I've tried to upload will initially come in upside-down. I rotate it on my desktop, re-import it, and it's upside-down again... I then rotate it back to its original position, re-import again, and it's fine... I can't seem to figure out any kind of rhyme or reason to it except that there is possibly some kind of embedded metadata that makes the upload engine re-orient the photo based on what it thinks is the top? Any ideas? ~tom taylor

Jeff! I'm building a follow cart for a customer and he has asked for 2-4u drawers.I know you had shown interest in the Adam Hall ones and I just had two delivered. They are excellent and very light weight. They are shipped from Germany and now I've seen them I can thoroughly recommend them. I'll send photos of the cart when it's further on. Malcolm Davies. A.m.p.s.

Hello Jeff, Could you consider having a "Postproduction" category? I know another member suggested this a while ago, to which you replied that "Workflow" sort of served that purpose. I think both could actually exist because it is clear from reading through the topics in "Workflow" that there is a lot more discussion about production issues and themes that AFFECT post, rather than genuinely sound post issues and concerns. I am aware other sites cover sound postproduction in a very thorough way ( Post forum of gearslutz, e.g.) but I have a feeling many JWSound members have, like myself, an interest and active work in both fields, which actually are part o…

Hey Jeff, I just had a quick question, been looking to build my own vertical cart soon, I've been reading old threads about your new follow cart, the 80/20 material, and all that jazz. Anyway my question was, after youve got the framing down, excuse me for sounding naive but what did u use for the base of the shelf and how is it secured onto the frame? Thanks in advance!

Try as I might, I cannot get the clock to display the correct local time. Venturing to the profile page, edit profile, scroll down to Central Time, Save Changes and it reverts back to GMT! And believe me I have tried this many times. It's a minor thing I know, but any help would be appreciated. Enjoy Atlanta... cleve

Hi Jeff, I've been debating whether or not to even bring this up, but it's been on my mind so I figure it must be somewhat important... at least to me, right? I had an abundance of posts from before the site got remodeled that seem to have been lost in the shuffle... it's not that big of a deal, except that I find myself wanting to go back from time to time to research a specific topic or thread to which I contributed, but the "posts" link under my profile only includes posts I've made since the site was remodeled. If there's no way to remedy this, then no worries -- I'll forget about it, but if I'm simply overlooking something, and there's a way to fin…

Jeff: I've posted a pic in the General Discussions section, instead of posting it in My Gallery. So I did post it again in My Gallery, but i didn't find a way to delete it from General Discussions section! Can you do it for me? Thanks Tony Muricy
