Hi Jeff, I posted last Saturday in I think it was 'current' as I was looking for some help in the SF area that day. I got two replies, but they were too late. Might it be worth one new forum on the system, for things that are of an urgent/sos nature? Just a thought..... Kindest regards from Moss Landing, near monterey... off to SF tomorrow - what should I take my lovely wife to see? We have just Friday I believe.... Kindest, sb

Hello Mr. Jeff Wexler, Hope this finds you fine, This is Hari,Production Mixer, from India I had seen your excellent work in MI-3, I remembered your write up about the Octava mics I am helping a friend, who is shooting a feature film in Africa in fall 2006, with a sound gear/setup The budget is low, Can you suggest a basic gear for such a shoot? Recorders, mixers, lavs, boom mics (shotgun, hyper), tcslates, talkbacks and all accs The locations is desert (exteriors) and some interiors and vehicle shots I do not have much experience of feature film setup/gear? except knowing the individual equipment The production is NY based, so rentals are to…

Not exactly a sound issue but the special effects coordinator on our show didn't come to work friday because he fell asleep at the wheel thursday and totalled his new F250 truck. The police said if it wasn't for the size of his truck and the airbags he wouldn't have made it. The Producer, who up to this point has been a very unpleasant person to the whole crew has offered free rooms to any crew who have a long drive home. I can't remember the # of stories like this I have heard over the years. Feel free to add yours. I'm sure there are many more.

"I have created the first group, Society, Politics and the Planet, in the anticipation that the section on the Main Board is going to be retired. Activity there should begin to take place HERE, in this GROUP." Any thoughts on when you plan on retiring Society, Politics and the Planet from the main board? I'm looking forward to getting my audio oasis back.

Jeff, Not sure how much effort it might take, but I have been reading about an iphone theme for SMF2.0. If it's possible this would be a great way of accessing the group. Completely understandable if you don't want to mess with the forums on this kind of level. You can read more about it at http://www.farfromperfection.com/smf4iphone.html This specific mod appears to be no longer in development but should work with the current version of the group. this is the SMF discussion on the topic where they discuss and have modified versions of the above mod to continue functioning. Hi Jeff and Gang, No big issue but I thought I'd mention that when I've been posting today I've been getting some messages after I send the post (see below) : The posts seem to register fine. No problem for me but thought you may like to know. Anyhow, thanks and hope you're having a good Labor Day. Jeff, With your new layout, when I cut and then paste a section from another web site, all of the HTML formatting clutters up the text. Is there any work around established on this -- besides not copying text from other sites? RL

Hello Jeff, Could you consider having a "Postproduction" category? I know another member suggested this a while ago, to which you replied that "Workflow" sort of served that purpose. I think both could actually exist because it is clear from reading through the topics in "Workflow" that there is a lot more discussion about production issues and themes that AFFECT post, rather than genuinely sound post issues and concerns. I am aware other sites cover sound postproduction in a very thorough way ( Post forum of gearslutz, e.g.) but I have a feeling many JWSound members have, like myself, an interest and active work in both fields, which actually are part o…

With the new forum look, sometimes I have had the issue that instead of the reply field on the bottom of any given thread, I can only select files to upload. This has happened on my ipad and my iphone 4. after reloading the page mostly the issue goes away and I can reply.

Jeff i have to tell you rigth now that your site is perfect and i love it. Maybe i m going a little over my head, but had to ask, have you ever thought of making a jwsound for people who speak spanish? I m just asking this because maybe we could have a more "localized" section? I know that if each one of us starts asking for you to open a section of our language, you would drive crazy. But cant help to think that more often than not, i feel i know more terms of sound in English than my own language. Also feel i know more sound people from the states than from around South America. Our reality is quite different, and some topics would be more representative. I…

Hi Jeff, Something has changed for me since the hack. I've got the permanent log on selected but I'm still required to log on each time I come to the forum. After I log on it indicates that I've been logged on permanently but that isn't the case. Curious. Thanks for a great forum. Its good for and efp/eng guy to hear about the film side of things primarily. Regards, Bernie

Jeff et al, I just tried to post a response to the Fuze Slate discussion: But after pressing the Post button, it looks like my comments just disappeared. So I tried again. Same thing. Haven't had this problem before. Safari 6.1 on a Mac. Any clues to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

I ordered a Nomad 4 channel recorder through B&H Photo and was told 10 weeks wait time. When the 10 weeks were up I emailed B&H to see what was up and they were told by a Zaxcom rep wait another 10 weeks. So when that 10 weeks was up I emailed again. This time I was told the order was cancelled. Wow, I got a full refund through B&H within 1 day so props to them for that but in the 20 weeks I waited with my money tied up in the Nomad I had to use a cheap recorder for a ton of projects. Disappointing but I'm glad I got my money back so I could get a decent recorder. Anyone heard of this happening to others?

The best thing so far for me with this move has been the improved look and feel when using the iPhone app that this site offers. On the old site, I had to use Safari, and it was difficult to view and navigate. This new site is great when using the iPhone, using the app(free) or Safari, which appears to be the same.

So I have discovered that when I am logged in I see "Who I am today" sitting happily between "All things apple" and "Technical Reference". When I am logged out ... it disappears. Is this intentional for privacy reasons. Rob

Hi Jeff, When I log on , I normally click straight to the 'Show New Posts Since last visit' link, where there always 10 or so at least. The last few days there have been none. Is no-one posting, or is there an issue? Best Regards Roger Slater Malvern UK

Hi Jeff, I am curious about your reasons for starting a new sound discussion group when there is RAMPS, CAS forum and the Recording Arts Forum. Are you allowing your "enemies" jand people know for flaming to join? Will you still post on RAMPS in the future now that you have your discussion group? I joined up as I have followed your comments on RAMPS and have found them to be very informative. I hope this group works out well for you. Mike Borlace

Occasionally, not all the time, when I click on view new content and I go to a topic that I've already viewed it will take me to the top of that topic and not to the 1st unread message. Though I get a box at the top of the that if I click will take me to unread post? Also it seems like I can no longer have any options to change the way I view the board. Jeff did you take that away? Jack

When watching TV I usually can more or less tell how the sound of a certain scene was done, be it boomed, lavs or ADR. But from time to time I watch a scene where I have no idea how they could have gotten the sound they did, so I wonder "how did that sound person pull it off?" I remember that probably the thread that I learned the most from on jwsound was the Classic Perspective thread in which (among much more) I think Jeff described how the sound of those long walks in Woody Allen's Manhattan was achieved. So I thought it would be great to have an entire section on jwsoundgroup where people post scenes from an episode or movie they watched which hey're curious ab…
