Here is an article I found about early sound. Apparently this year marks the 200th anniversary of the man who invented recorded sound. http://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2017/05/22/529550254/at-the-dawn-of-recorded-sound-no-one-cared

Very sad to hear of the death of veteran post sound mixer/editor/designer David Yewdall. Here's part of his obituary from Deadline Hollywood: David Yewdall, a sound editor and teacher whose long career included work on such films as Escape From New York, The Thing, Twilight Zone: The Movie and The Fifth Element, has died. He was 66. His family confirmed to Deadline that Yewdall died Tuesday of pancreatic cancer at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Along with amassing more than 100 credits and being a trailblazer in “organic sound,” Yewdall was an educator and author. He wrote Practical Art of Motion Picture Sound, which was published in 1999 and …

I finally saw this film... Dear Jeff, I just want to tell you how amazing the film sounds.... And as one can easily see, it was not an easy-peasy film at all in terms of the scenes and logistics involved... (not to say ANY film is ALL easy for us, of course) How can you retire!!! -vin

Hi sound friends, BE AWARE I got a message recently that Professional Sound Services is under new management. It said " PSS has not gone away... we have simply moved" So I contact the new management to find out about an item I had there which was under consignment. This is what they wrote to me : Looking into the old business (Professional Sound Services Inc) past accounting records - your item was sold back in September as per the attached order. It would appear that you were never credited for it - I am sorry, but you will need to take this up with Rich as we only bought the physical assets from him and not the liabilities or business. Al…

This is so sad... what an amazingly kind and wonderful man. I never managed to do a whole movie with Jonathan, but first worked with him doing pick-ups on a movie in the Corman era, "Caged Heat" in 1974 at the beginnings of both if our careers. "Jonathan Demme, the Oscar-winning director of Philadelphia and The Silence of the Lambs and the filmmaker who revolutionized concert movies with his 1984 Talking Heads movie Stop Making Sense, died Wednesday morning from esophegal cancer. He was 73."

Hi Everyone, We just got a note from the Satay Grille, the restaurant hosting the RAMPS/JWSOUND dinner next week, April 25 at NAB. It will REALLY REALLY help the restaurant and GREATLY speed up getting people in the door if we each pay the $30 meal fee in CASH. Credit Cards will still be accepted at the bar. But cash at the door will really help. So please pay cash at the door. Thanks! Those of us organizing the party (i.e., Kathy Baca and a couple assistants)

Hi All, This is so strange to me - boggles my mind. What's your take on this? They've recreated a bit of England, Paris and left Manhattan unfinished. As the gentleman narrating the video suggests, this has got to have some kind of world wide trickle down effect. People living in squalor in other places in the world and then you have this... humans can be pretty messed up in their thinking. Cheers everyone.... keep well :-)) Dave

Hello everyone, there is an organization I'm a member of called Soundgirls.org. Started by Karrie Keyes (Pearl Jam) it mentors and networks women and girls into sound. Soundgirls is currently doing an indiegogo fundraiser for their Soundgirls live sound camps. There are a lot of cool gifts for various donation levels. K-tek has generously donated a nice equipment bundle for $690 (savings of $200). Please go check it out and donate if you can. Let's reach out to the next generation. https://igg.me/at/JuAJGN3xJ4w

Just read this on Gotham's site. Looks like everything above 608MHz is going to be off limits in the US. Wonder how long the rest of the world will take to follow. https://www.gothamsound.com/news/rf-spectrum-april-2017-update

The story of that theme CBS always plays for The Masters Tournament in Augusta GA. I believe the year was 1981. Dave (Please Come to Boston) Loggins had arrived at my Bennett House studio in Franklin, TN to record a new song for the Masters Golf Telecast. I asked Mike Hanna, a great pianist and string arranger to join us as well as engineer Gene Eichelberger. Gene recorded our trio track in two or three takes and Loggins then put down the guitar and added the vocal. As we sat there listening Hanna offered to write a string quartet to fill out the sound. Loggins didn't really have a budget that could support hiring players to come to Franklin, but Hanna happily wrote…

I was wondering if there is going to be an audio pit this year at NAB? I'm going back again after a few years and would not want to miss it.
