Thank you to all those who have just donated to support JWSOUND -- I truly appreciate every one of you, for your donations, of course, but more importantly for your participation in our long running online community. I believe that JWSOUND is still a special place even in today's world of massive proliferation of social media.

I am celebrating the 18 year anniversary of the JWSOUND site. I started the site in 2006 in response to the almost total meltdown of our beloved r.a.m.p.s. group. It was pretty much an immediate success with almost everyone who was on the newsgroup coming over to the JWSOUND site. We have a core group of members that go all the way back to the beginning of the site and are still with us, participating and contributing so much to our sound community — for this I am so grateful! We've had a few bumps in the road, a few updates that went badly, always striving to make things better for our members. We improved the Search routines, still not perfect but coupled with Googl…

I never see anything in this part of the forum. Is work in the motion picture biz still slow? Or is no one taking any work because rates and conditions are so bad? Been out for a number of years so I'm not up to speed on what's going on, especially post-strikes. D.

I stumbled across this video when surfing YouTube. It is truly one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I must have watched it 50 times now. Anyone with any on-set experience will surely see how the chances of this happening are one in a million! The camera operator should win an academy award for his instincts. As this fiasco unfolded, his panning and zooming are sooooo spot on!! Enjoy!! Jeff Porrello Retired Boom Operator Local 695 Soundman Destroys Shop.mp4

I’m thinking of switching over to IFBlue from my r1a and Comtek. But I use my R1a as a scratch track for camera occasionally. Could I use IFBlue to send scratch track to camera?

Today Friday February the 20th is the anniversary of the loss of Sarah Jones on the film Midnight Rider. I encourage everyone on their sets today to take a minute of silence and remember Saftey For Sarah and how no one should ever die for making a film or production. Please encourage your production to take a minute and to remember safety first... Stop And Care. Whit

I would imagine that this would be mostly the Mississippi River valley north to the Gulf of Mexico. How far on each side of the river this event will extend I do not know at this time, but checking with local state Ag extension service would be one place to start. https://dnyuz.com/2024/01/19/the-world-hasnt-seen-cicadas-like-this-since-1803/ If there was a good plan for deterrence beyond the clapping of dolly wedges that would help a number of us out in these locations.

Seems there will be a respite until 2031 in Region 1 at least (Europe, Africa, Middle East and others). The 470 - 694 MHz retains broadcast as a primary user, keeps PMSE (program making and special events, wireless microphones and similar applications in regulatory-speak) as secondary, and while some countries might authorize some mobile activity it would be on a secondary basis if at all. One of the key points of the opinions supporting broadcast and PMSE was regulatory stability, and it seems the next review is scheduled for 2031. So, some peace of mind for now I guess. EBU seems to be happy. https://tech.ebu.ch/news/2023/12/ebu-…

I just heard from Philippe at Cinela that he is not able to make it to NAB this year but has graciously donated a Pianissimo windscreen for the RAMPS/JWSOUND Party Tuesday night. We will miss Philippe but will be quite pleased if I win a beautiful Cinela Pianissimo!
