Some additional feedback given to the FCC regarding the impacts of the spectrum auction in the 600mhz block... And Sennheiser Electronic Corporation, a wireless mic manufacturer, is drawing support for its proposal for the cost of replacing wireless mics to fall to companies that win spectrum in the incentive auction. FCC staff members have recommended auctioning the two channels currently reserved for wireless mics, and a senior FCC official said the staff is also proposing allowing licensed use of wireless microphones by broadcasters in the duplex gap. “I fully agree with Sennheiser's proposal for auction winners to compensate wireless mic owners for any equipment …

Mr Trump claims his mic was defective last night--what does he mean? How was it defective? I didn't hear him drop out, I did hear a somewhat Dugan-y gain sharing thing happen when they talked over each other, but I didn't lose either of them in those scrums....? The gain-sharing thing did what it was supposed to do, I thought.

I'm heading to LA for a week. Doing some post meetings, and playing disc golf. I'd like to extend an invitation to any disc golfing soundies out there who might want to throw a round with me. I'll be playing several rounds throughout that week, at some of the best courses LA has to offer. Crew (oldschool) has already confirmed, and we are going to try to schedule a round. Anyone else, please let us know, we can make it a sound round..or two for those willing! Of course there should also be plenty of opportunities to meet up for beverages, if anyone is interested. Thanks.

SAG to seek strike authorization Talks collapse between Guild, AMPTP By DAVE MCNARY In a move toward Hollywood's second strike in a year, the Screen Actors Guild will seek a strike authorization from its 120,000 members -- prompting an angry response from the congloms. SAG made the announcement early Saturday morning after federal mediator Juan Carlos Gonzalez abandoned efforts to bring the two sides together, following their first face-to-face meeting in four months. Neither side budged significantly during two lengthy sessions Thursday and Friday with negotiators spending much of the time reiterating previous positions. Read the rest of the article here: http:/…

Due to severe flooding in the Nashville area, there is a good chance that the phones of the US office of Trew Audio will not be answered tomorrow (Monday), for at least the first part of the day. Voice mails and email will be returned as soon as possible, but for those needing to speak to a helpful human until the Nashville office reopens, please call either our Toronto office (Eastern time) at 416-778-0656 or our Vancouver office (Pacific time) at 604-299-9122. A large part of Nashville is now under water and many major streets are impassable. The levee protecting the Metro Center area (where Trew Audio is) now has a leak and the river is about to crest the levee, and…

Sennheiser announced today that they have filed a petition with the FCC to compensate owners of wireless equipment which will be made obsolete due to the coming auction of the 600 mHz band. Some of you may be familiar with how this was handled in the UK, where the government compensated individuals whose equipment was rendered unusuable due to re-allocation of spectrum. Don't know if this will fly in the good 'ole US of A, but you never know. Press release here:http://en-us.sennheiser.com/news-sennheiser-petitions-fcc-to-compensate-owners-of-wireless-microphone-equipment-as-spectrum-faces-repacking-for-second-time- --S

All: As some of you may know, in a moment of weakness (after consuming too many cocktails at the last C.A.S. Awards banquet), I volunteered to take on the task of writing an article for the newly published Local 695 Quarterly, taking a look at the way we used to get it done on set in the "bad old days". In typical fashion, what started as a single article has now expanded into a regular quarterly installment, which now requires me to actually give some thought to planning ahead. These installments are currently in a linear time line, advancing about 1 1/2 decades each issue. As such, I am quickly coming upon the late 40's and early 50's. Is is interesting to n…

From 695 web site: Contract Negotiations 4/13/2012, 12:10 am - TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED Producers DROP many of their demands, including the requirement that all classifications and departments will be interchangeable... and there will be NO reduction in Health Plan benefits... but there were trade-offs, too. Lee had a stroke on Sunday. I'm at a total loss right now. I just wanted those folks who know Lee to be aware. I used to rent sound gear from Lee. Best thing to ever happen to me was meeting Lee. He used to rent me quality gear at a price I could afford. He gave me great advice, he was one of the few true friends I have here in Los Angeles.

I got the ballot in the mail today. I understand the terms, and I will carefully consider my decision. But there is no mention of side letters here. Doesn't the low budget agreement expire too? Do we get ANY input there, or is it just assumed if we agree to this basic agreement that we are on board with anything the international agrees to in side letters. This is a major issue for me, and want to know what it means before I make my decision. Will someone also help me with what this means for the Local 695 agreement. When do we see that? What terms have been negotiated there? Thanks, Robert

President Obama will sign a presidential memorandum Monday that aims to make available for auction some 500 megahertz of spectrum now controlled by the federal government and private companies, administration officials said Sunday. Most of that would be designated for commercial use in mobile broadband and similar applications, though aspects of the plan will require congressional approval. The effort embraces recommendations made by the Federal Communications Commission in its National Broadband Plan, which was released in March and encourages the expansion of high-speed wireless broadband services. But some aspects could be opposed by television broadcast companies, …
