We are celebrating the 16th anniversary of the JWSOUND site which continues to be a vibrant and highly popular resource for our sound community. I have seldom asked for donations to support this site , over the years there have been so many spontaneous and generous unsolicited donations it has been a real help in running the site. At this time I am asking for donations if you are able to as the expense of running the site has increased (hasn't everything except our wages!) I have never strived to monetize this site as many other sites have and there has been over the years substantial support from the paid advertising banners running on the site. Many of the companies tha…

I am asking that those members that feel they can afford it to donate a small amount of money to help me with the costs of maintaining this Discussion Group site and CinemaSound. I have been able to manage on my own for the last 5 years to keep these sites up and running, upgrading the software that powers this forum, upgrading my server accounts, routine and some not so routine maintenance, but I could use some help now. I am asking for a donation of $10.00 (US) on a yearly basis to keep all this going. This is totally voluntary and no one should fear that either of these great sites will be taken down if no one donates. I am asking for $10.00 but any amount will be ap…

The web site appears to have gone away. I guess any software updates can be gotten from Fostex dealers. Corporate belt tightening I suspect. I couldn't down load the updates to my Mac anyway. Happy New Years!!!

* The Wall Street Journal * JUNE 12, 2009 Lawmakers Make Noise About Loud Commercials By FAWN JOHNSON Some members of Congress want broadcasters to turn down the volume on television commercials. A bill sponsored by U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D., Calif.) would require the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to "preclude commercials from being broadcast at louder volumes than the program material they accompany." Broadcasters say they are addressing the problem already. "The major television broadcast networks, including ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, are each, individually, implementing policies that attempt to control loud commercials," said David Donovan, pr…

Just read it in the Gotham Gazette: Lectrosonics Update Lectrosonics Reblocked Wireless frequencies are about to undergo some necessary shuffling, due to the FCC auction of the spectrum above 700 mHz, which will take effect February 2009. Lectrosonics is no exception, making Block 27, 28, and 29 no longer available except by special order in 2008 and entirely unavailable thereafter. To compensate, Lectro will be expanding the blocks available on the lower end of the spectrum. Blocks 19 and 20, pending FCC approval, will roll out first quarter 2008, with a possibility of further expansion later. In addition, more products will be added using block 944.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Broadcast icon Dick Clark, the creator and longtime host of "American Bandstand," has died, publicist Paul Shefrin said. He was 82. Clark suffered a heart attack while at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica an outpatient procedure, his publicist said. "Attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful." Clark suffered what was then described as "a mild stroke" in December 2004, just months after announcing he had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. That stroke forced Clark to cut back on his on-camera work, including giving up the hosting duties for the "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" specials. He reappeared as a co-host with Ryan Seacrest on Dec…

This relates to another thread of mine about the fickleness of producers who jump from one "State tax rebate" to another. The hit show was originally shooting in Toronto and moved to New York to reap the benefits of the New York state incentives. Now they are going back to Canada - but now to Vancouver. That will mean two complete sets of crews that J.J. Abrams has thrown under the bus to save costs and maximize his cut of the show. Variety reports: "After spending weeks on tenterhooks over the status of New York’s endangered production tax credit, Fox has decided to pull up stakes and relocate production of its hit frosh series “Fringeâ€ to Vancouver. The sho…

This feature stopped working for me a week or so ago. Just tells me there are no new posts. I realize I can just scroll down on the main page and see what's been posted, but the 'show unread' feature works much better. Anyone else having a similar problem?

Deadline Hollywood reports: It’s the end of the road for veteran medical drama House, which will bow out after the end of its current eighth season on Fox. The network has granted creator David Shore’s wish for an early decision to allow him to give the series and its characters a proper ending. The move opens the door for renewal of another Fox drama in need of an early verdict, freshman Terra Nova. Shore originally was hoping for a resolution by end of last year but he and the network “agreed mutually to put it off until after the first of the year,” Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said at TCA in January. At the time he admitted that he’s been “avoid…

Well, another big studio project has decided to not shoot in Los Angeles. I'm currently in Atlanta on a show, in very busy Georgia with so much work that they can barely fill all the key positions. Also currently shooting here is Jeff Wexler, Bill Kaplan, Eric Pierce and Scott Smith who shoots in Savannah. Now North Carolina, which years back had a lot of work in Wilmington, has snagged Iron Man 3. From Deadline Hollywood: “The rumors are true,” a North Carolina TV station announced when the governor flew to the hometown movie studio to break the news this past week. “Tony Stark and the third installment of the Iron Man movie franchise will f…

On May 17, the price of an act of wonder went up 2.3 percent. The stonemason Thea Alvin had been asking $44 an hour for her extraordinary labors. After that Friday, her birthday, the same job would cost $45. “I typically work for my age in wages,” Ms. Alvin said. “It’s a rule I invented.” http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/18/garden/thea-alvin-on-life-with-pebbles-and-bam-bam.html

We watched 42 on blu ray today and totally enjoyed it. So well done. Great job Jeff and Glen. One question, in the Commissioner of Baseballs office where Happy Chandler is getting a manicure while telling Branch Rickey that Leo Dorocher was going to be suspended. There is a fly flying about in the master shot, was that a fluke or was there a fly wrangler ? Beelzebub needs to know.

"For over 50 years, retired LA Police Officers have escorted, protected and monitored film crews within the City limits. These retired officers work independently from the Police Department. LAPD wants to take over by mandating that film work be done by active duty police officers on overtime work details. The LAPD is also attempting to force the retired officers into a uniform that in no way resembles any law enforcement uniform, making them unrecognizable as figures of authority." In my experience, the retired LA Police Officers of the "Film Unit" do an incredible job. The city's new proposal will definitely cost productions more money and will be a disincentive t…

"Bo Thide of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics and a team in Italy have finally proven that it’s possible to simultaneously transmit multiple radio channels over exactly the same wireless frequency. In theory, according to Thide, we could potentially transmit an “infinite number” of TV, radio, WiFi, and cellular channels at the same time over the same frequency, blasting apart our highly congested wireless spectrum" https://plus.google.com/u/0/107784212140893392732/posts/JjoWG7sQG2s

As much as I do NOT like the "Like" button on Facebook (I have yet to ever click on the like button), I have added a Like Button to JWSOUND. Everyone should be able to see it in the lower right hand corner of every post. Clicking on it will establish a "Like" for that post but how that is registered and tracked, how it actually functions, is unknown to me. The button is grey until hovered and clicked on.

An article in the Washington Post on the opening of the movie "Chicago 10" really turns out to be a wonderful review and celebration of my father's 1969 movie, "Medium Cool." You can read the article here: http://haskellwexler.com/HaskellWexler.Com/medium_cool.html - Jeff Wexler
