I was thinking about putting up a board for people to post Want-To-Buy and Want-To-Sell items here. It would be out of the way, no one has to spend anytime there if they don't want to, and I will not be providing ANY assistance as far as sales go (this will not become an Audio EBay lite for sure). It probably would not even be "classified" as in indexed or categorized, just a place to post buying and selling. What does anybody think? Regards, Jeff Wexler

I am a freelance sound recordist based in Nigeria. I love this job so much. But you know, as a freelance, jobs don't come always. My question is this, what exactly do i do at those times when jobs don't come? I don't have my equipments yet so i can't be playing with equipments etc.. Please can anyone suggest blogs to me where i can download videos and tutorials as regards location sound recording? I will also take suggestions on what to do with my spare time cos at times i have too much of it. Lastly, if anyone is coming to Nigeria or any African countries to work, I'm always here to assist. Thanks.

Hello everyone. I thought it might be a cool networking thing, if all the mixers, boom ops, and post sups etc. if we listed the upcoming tv shows and the networks or the studio.(episodic, 3 camera sitcoms, features films, indie features, reality shows, and documentary projects. and who there crew is. Jeff got me thinking when he "put his name in the hat" re: he has nothing concrete until nov.(craigslist is not the only site to help fellow mixers??if it helpa at all.) that if we posted what all of us were doing this year. the better for all of the other mixers to day play or give a idea if they might have a chance at second unit etc. just a thought if it does lead to a co…

What is happening over on r.a.m.p.s. these days --- it looks like it has been hit by a whole rash of bogus posts, advertisements and so forth. They are pretty random so it may not be so easy to filter out. Is everybody seeing this stuff? - Jeff Wexler

URSA has created a YT series called "what's in your kit?" and for this new one they met with my compatriote Stéphane Bucher during his prep for Ridley Scott's next project Napoleon. I found the video quite interesting and Stephane is very generous and open about his kit and choices. His lucky sound department has a team of 6 and a large sound van to make jealous most of us I believe 😅 Particularly interesting to me are his choices to deal with long distance set (eg. Dante with back up recorder on set for the radio mikes, but wired booms with an 8 ch multipair directly to his Cantar). Really worth a look even for experienced sound mixers.

Hi LA folks, I just got to LA and I'm absolutely brand new to the area. I have some time and I want to check and see the place as much as I can so my question is; What part of LA might be a good idea to move into "IF" the focus was ONLY being in the most convenient location for most non-union sound mixer/recordist gigs. I'm aware that it will be a relative question in some sense however since I don't know anything about LA I wouldn't want to move somewhere that I might have a hard time reaching production houses, overall gigs, etc... If anyone is around and wants to meet up (even for a short time) I really would love to! thanks Engin

In conversation with a video producer on another forum, she's interested in buying the Sony 7506 headphones but is not sure where to go to buy them as she lives in Cyprus and vendors are few and far between Ideally it would be a somewhat local place to avoid horrendous shipping charges. All replies gratefully appreciated. Mike

" to consider what the leadership of this union has wrought upon this business. " which union are you referring to?? The IATSE has given us away in "New Media", and "New Media" is probably going to rule, even episodic TV will qualify, when they preview the shows online before the air date/time! SAG is fighting fiercely for some better terms for "New Media"...
