This is from a site actually called "Treehugger": Scientists Grow Cheap Biodegradable Solar Using Tobacco Researchers at UC Berkeley have hacked tobacco plants to grow synthetic photovoltaic cells which can then be extracted and sprayed onto any substrate to create solar cells. http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/01/scientists_create_cheap_biodegradable_spray-on_solar_cells_with_tobacco.php Perhaps a(nother) good reason to quit smoking.

Please keep a lookout for a Lectrosonics SMv Serial #857 Block 25 out on the market. Also stolen was a Sanken COS-11, and a Neopax thigh strap. The feeling here is that it will turn up, however it's been 3 shooting days since it's been seen last, and I'm starting to have my doubts. Thanks for looking! Michael Clark

This just appeared in Daily Variety and I thought it was a form of "Gallows" humor. I copied the entire piece: World's Greatest Film Locations Pros pick best places for filmmaking Industry insiders choose world's greatest locations By IAIN BLAIR Variety recently conducted an online poll among several hundred location managers, unit production managers, cinematographers, directors and assistant directors asking them to rate their favorite locations according to visual appeal, incentives, film-office support, production resources, and ability to substitute for another location. The top five North American locations and the top five international locations, ranked h…

I want to let our Atlanta customers know that, for the safety of our staff, Trew Audio in Atlanta is now closing for the day due to hurricane Irma. However, the phones will be answered and orders can still be made.

The news broke yesterday, thanks to Nikki Finke but I'm late in cross posting this. Weinstein Co's Dimension Films Stops Pre-Production On 'Halloween 3D' "So here's what happened: the script only came in Friday, and it was the first draft that Dimension Films had seen. And The Weinstein Co was rushing to get the film into production for a November start date in Shreveport. Bob Weinstein shut down H3D pre-production "because Bob just felt it was rushing too fast." Now Dimension plans to start the film after My Bloody Valentine 3D helmer Lussier is free." I upgraded the SMF software that powers this site and the upgrade includes quite a few security enhancements and bug fixes. Please let me know if anyone encounters any difficulties. The upgrade also introduced some social networking Share buttons that appear above topic posts but I am not sure exactly how they operate and I haven't personally tried them yet. Regards, Jeff Wexler

Thank you to all who have donated so generously to this site. With your contributions I will be able to keep things going here for the benefit of us all. There are many individuals who made contributions way in excess of any of my expectations and this is greatly appreciated. I am not going to single out anyone in particular, you are all special, and your continuing participation in this Group is the reason for its popularity and success. I would also like to make special mention of the companies (I don't want to call them "Corporate Sponsors") that have made substantial contributions (and have continued to respect the importance of posting in the Manufacturers &…

I'm getting a headache from all the inner legal warfare within SAG's Board. Cue the Soap Opera music, please. When we left off on Tuesday, Alan Rosenberg's first attempt at an injunction to stop Douglas Allen from being fired was shot down by a Judge. Rosenberg said "I'll be back." Back he was today - and bang, bang, shot down again. Read it here: http://digitalmedialaw.blogspot.com/2009/02/judge-denies-sag-president-injunction.html RL

Not sure if this is too late, but thought it worth a mention to any NY-based sound people. I'm a big Tekserve fan and this event looks like it could be fun, plus a way to pick up some low-cost gear, if your elbows are sharp enough. http://events.tekserve.com/event/gathering-gear-audio-technology-fair/ Regards, John

You can't make this stuff up. SAG and AMPTP will meet tomorrow for the first time since last year. Despite that, SAG guild president Alan Rosenberg and first VP Anne-Marie Johnson have disclosed plans to go to court to demand reinstatement of Doug Allen as national exec director.
