I got to hand it to Nikki Finke, she does not hold back speaking her mind. I also happen to agree with her. As an Academy member I think the decision stinks, along with Sherak being the point person in getting the Academy to now have 10 films vying for Best Picture, thus diluting the worthiness of the Academy Award. WHAAAAT? Tom Sherak New AMPAS Prez "What an AWFUL decision. Because Tom Sherak has been responsible of late for many of the worst decisions by the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Heck, this guy helped run Revolution Studios into the ground. Now he's going to do the same thing with AMPAS. What a lameass tool. What a moronic Board Of Governor…

From Daily Variety: SAG's moderate leaders to meet Sunday Guild members aim to revive contract talks "The moderate majority of SAG leaders will attempt Sunday to put feature-primetime negotiations back on track by trying to defuse president Alan Rosenberg's extraordinary legal challenge. The uncertainty over SAG's contract situation has been a factor in slowing down feature production. A below-the-line organization dubbing itself "Back to Work" has scheduled a 1 p.m. rally for Monday at SAG's Hollywood headquarters to urge the guild to re-launch negotiations. "The refusal to negotiate has gone on for too long," it said in a message in its web site at www.letsge…

I believe this will happen sooner than four years from now: Nokia has claimed that by 2013 it could become possible to recharge your phone from the ambient electromagnetic radiation (AER) emitted by Wi-Fi transmitters, mobile phone antennae and TV masts. http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/06/10/nokia_aer/ I also predict we will be powering our carts in similar ways soon. This of course collides with my occasional rant here in regards to additional "ambient electromagnetic radiation" and it's possible unhealthy side effects.

Daily Variety: Overall offlot filming slid 19% by Dave McNary On-location feature filming in Los Angeles plummeted 29.9% last year -- and would have sunk even lower if not for a 13.6% hike in fourth-quarter shoots. Meanwhile, commercials slid 12% last year to 5,292 days but gained 10% in the third quarter and 20% in the fourth -- possibly indicating a recovery in the advertising business. Permitting agency FilmL.A., in a report issued Thursday, credited the California Film and Television Tax Credit program with driving the fourth quarter gain. The incentive program launched in July. Overall offlot production in all categories slid 19.4% in 2009 to 37,979 days, m…

Pixar Gets Dolby to Invent ’Rain of Sound’ to Match 3-D Movies By Ryan Flinn May 23 (Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co.’s Pixar made the latest installment of its “Toy Storyâ€ franchise in 3-D to satisfy the growing appetite for immersive visual effects. Its next challenge: getting the sound effects to match. The current setup in most theaters, known as 5.1, couldn’t direct sounds precisely enough to specific parts of the theater, says Paul Cichocki, post-production supervisor at Pixar. The audio didn’t feel like it was putting the viewer in the middle of the action, he says. “We really wanted to take sound to the next level, and we just weren…

I really find this statement interesting Hollywood-speak (politician-speak?): " The Academy’s board of governors on Tuesday night joined their LACMA counterparts in agreeing to sign a memorandum of understanding to work in good faith in establishing the Academy's movie museum in the May Co. building. My question towards the members using the R4+ RECORDER. I have cast of 12 scripted parts. Obviously more than my mixer, ( Digital out option on my mixer ES84 to R4+) , if I go to physical inputs XLR 1-4 and 2 more lines on TA 3 F 5 and 6. I am now recording 8 digital in ( 1 Mix-Mono; rest 2-8 ISO) the added channels going to Tracks 9-16 are part of the same poly file but not in the Mix. More to it 9-14 are analog post fader- not ISO pre- fader ?! So, how do I craete a poly file with normal Mix- ch1, and the rest normal 2-14 iso ? Let alone feeding the Public IFB Lectors for Company . Many Thnks to all members in regards to my dilemma .

" In the Cinematography competition, Outstanding Cinematography for a Half-Hour Series and Outstanding Cinematography for a One Hour Series have been reconfigured as Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series and Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series. " recognizing the technical differences amongst the shooting techniques, and the fact that the length is not a differentiating factor. "The Sound Mixing for Series" has gone through a similar evolution from being differentiated as Comedy/Drama, to Single/Multiple Camera styles, to Hour/Half-hour, and now hopefully it will follow cinematography back what I feel is the better division of Single …
