During the 12-day mission, they will transfer tons of supplies to the International Space Station from the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module. Among several experiments they will deliver: Human Exploration Telerobotics-Smartphone will equip small, free-flying satellites called Synchronized Position Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites (SPHERES) with a Samsung Electronics Nexus S™ handset that features Google’s open-source Android™ platform. New iPhone app: "Sonoma Wire Works's FourTrack ($9.99, iPhone and 2G iPod Touch only) is a multitrack audio recorder with four tracks (record one while listening to the others), unlimited length, 16-bit/44.1KHz quality, calibrated meters, fade and pan, clipping lights, time line display, shuttle, Wi-Fi sync, and more" Probably just a toy. I haven't looked at it. - JW

I tried to connect my 744T to my PowerBook (running Leopard now) and I could not get the Hard Drive to mount on the Desktop. Courtney explained to me that with the new firmware I have to make a menu selection (Firewire connect) HDD+STOP to access Internal Hard Drive. This finally worked but mounting, unmounting and file transfer speed was very slow. I don't know if this is a Leopard (OS X 10.5.1) problem or something wrong with my 744T. I have now updated to v. 2.40 firmware and there seems to be some improvement. Anyone else having any of these problems? Regards, Jeff Wexler

Fellow 788t owners.. I have a little database I wrote that now runs on the iPhone via Filemaker Go, which you download from the App Store.. I own 2 788t recorders and mainly work in episodic..So, every 8 days, new cast names to deal with.. I've long had this feature as a part of my breakdown app I wrote but spun it off to a standalone iPhone thing.. Its simple.. You run the DB, put in the name of the file the app will create, add all the character names you wish and email the result to your computer.. On a Mac or PC you connect to your 788t, copy over the file and Load from List in the names menu and off you go.. I got tired of changing names on both units so this was a f…

Hey 788t users.. Got one more for you.. This little utility will generate roll numbers for you..You can enter Pre Text that will show up in front of the Roll Number.. You can set how many Numbers are generated. I cap it to 70. You set which number the roll will end..Along with a few other settings you can just play with and figure it out pretty quick.. Just make a change and press Generate button and the result will display below the button. Again, on your iOS device, you enter an email address to send to.. If you have a Mac or PC, the Save button will show up to allow you to save to your desktop. Once on your computer simply connect your 788t to your computer and drag ov…

Hey, I'm a Mac guy. Infantalizing hardware Then there's the device itself: clearly there's a lot of thoughtfulness and smarts that went into the design. But there's also a palpable contempt for the owner. I believe -- really believe -- in the stirring words of the Maker Manifesto: if you can't open it, you don't own it. Screws not glue. The original Apple ][+ came with schematics for the circuit boards, and birthed a generation of hardware and software hackers who upended the world for the better. If you wanted your kid to grow up to be a confident, entrepreneurial, and firmly in the camp that believes that you should forever be rearranging the world to make it …

I've been using MYOB for my accounting and billing software on the Mac. I've toyed with the idea of moving off MYOB to iBiz. Anybody else using something other than MYOB on the Mac for billing and accounting? MYOB is a great program, but has had its fair share of bugs (I've even had to pay for tech support to report a bug, which they later confirmed ... then ticked me off by having me pay for the upgrade that fixed that bug). However, the program is also really overkill for our business. Usually we bill by our day rate, have gear rental, and sometimes overtime. Nothing that basic accounting software and billing software can't handle. Thus, the reason I'm wondering if …

Apple - iPad - What is iPad? The Apple Newton was the first Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and was released in 1993. The Newton featured handwriting recognition which received a significant amount of bad press on launch. The recognizer improved significantly in the subsequent releases but it was never quite able to shake the bad reputation. The Newton line was discontinued by Steve Jobs himself after his return to Apple. While most people still carry a negative connotation with Apple's Newton, it was an ahead-of-its-time sort of device that had a hardcore fan base in its day.

I've been using an app called Duet to extend the screen of my MacBook Pro with an iPad via a USB cable, which has been working well for me, but has some problems with Yosemite, apparently. A colleague alerted me to the fact that Air Display, which used to work only via a wireless network, now is has a Version 3, which can also use a USB cable and seems to be pretty stable. For an expenditure of around $15 (£10.99 UK) it's a pretty good deal. Regards, John

Will someone finally explain to me why Adobe is the ONLY company that puts out "updates" on almost a weekly basis (for their Flash Player) and why the installer acts like it wants to take over the whole computer when it's doing its thing. Compare what Adobe puts you through with any other software that I install or update on the Mac and it's a joke, a bad joke. The incessant updates, for "security", would be enough to turn me off to Flash even if it were the best software out there. Why is it that Adobe Flash has all these security risks anyway?

After one year and out of warranty, my MBP has a 3 minute battery now. I've been shopping for a replacement and reading the reviews of the third party stuff on line. Any experience with after market batteries for the MBP? Is an Apple battery the way to go?

thought I share my finding with Airfoil. Airfoil (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/) is a software that lets you send any audio source from your Mac to a speaker within your wifi-network. So far I used to send audio to my stereo by using an Apple Airport-Express. Now I wanted to add a small speaker in an adjoining room. I choose a small bluetooth speaker and thought I could send my audio just in parallel to Airfoil via bluetooth. Well you can but there is (a different) delay which would lead to some echo between the 2 rooms. After installing the Speakers app (free) (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/speakers.php) on my MBP and routing it´s output to the bl…

I moved from windows many years ago because I got tired of their pop-up windows to update this and that. Now, I'm starting to get a freaking Adobe Flash Player update window every 10th time I visit this site. Does anyone know how to disable this?

Can anyone think of a way to get the Zaxconvert software running on an iPad? It would be easy enough to access the files from a TRX900 or ZFR100/200 using a card reader adaptor. It would be pretty cool if you could also convert the files and then dump them onto a USB thumb drive. It would be nice if Zaxcom created an app for it (Lectrosonics have come out with some cool uses for the iPad so far), but assuming they don't, is there another way to get the software running? I remember seeing a DOS emulator a while ago, I think it's still in the app store. Are there any windows or OSX emulators that would do the trick? Anyway, just an idea I had bouncing around. Rob

I'm curious if anyone has upgraded a Mac Mini to the new Core 2 Duo chip or knows someone who has (or can). I assumed that Apple would do this themselves, but they don't seem to be in any great hurry, as there's not even rumors of a new Mac Mini with the faster processor. Thanks for any information that you may have! Regards, Noah Timan

We have seen in Apple, Inc. indisputable and dramatic growth over the last several months and much of the main stream business and technology journalists still cling the whole notion of the "halo effect" of the iPod and iPhone. I believe that there is a halo effect but it is only one factor. At the core of Apple's success is still undeniably the Mac and it continues to gain on "the other computer" every day. Here is an excerpt from one of the more thoughtful analysts: "C|Net: More to Mac Sales Than Halo by John Martellaro, 4:10 PM EDT, October 23rd, 2007 Looking at the Apple sales numbers in detail, it remains impossible to attribute Apple's sales growth to the iPo…

There is an excellent and thorough article available that discusses legacy ports and technology with a good history of the computer industry on this issue. It is a long article but helps to understand the relationships between technology development, manufacturing costs and marketing, consumer acceptance and so forth. It is a good read for anyone wishing to add to their knowledge about these things and aids in thoughtful analysis of the current state of computer hardware development. I believe there is useful information here but I need to warn everyone that the article IS rather Mac-centric (I am sure no one here is surprised by that). READ IT HERE Regards, Jeff W…
