By looking at the specs I do not see a reason why it should not run snow leopard operation system since snow leopard is a PC OS. I am not very happy with the video card but for nothing video intensive it is an excellent little device. Wave agent anybody?

So in 2009 I switched both the family computer and my laptop to Mac's. All is well but, I really miss Excell, Word and Outlook at home. I understand that Office for Mac 2011, to be released in October, will finally have Outlook available on it and I am very tempted to go for the best of both worlds with Microsoft Office and my Mac. Does anyone have experience with Office for Mac and, any comments about it? Thanks

warning: a plug from an enthusiastic user! I have been using WiMAX Internet while in LAS for over a year. First there was Cricket, and then came Clear. In LAS they seem to be fighting it out in every strip mall cell phone store, and on the sides of every bus and/or taxi. What is it? It is WiFi on steroids, basically using the 4G (and 3G) cell phone networks for Internet access. Similar tp what is also available on cards from the Cell Phone companies --for a higher price and , with data limits, like "included minutes" on a cell phone, and excess charges. Cricket and Clear offer unlimited use, 24/7, for a flat fee, and the speed is excellent. Until recently there…

" Most cameras and video recorders don't instantly attach location data (or geographic coordinates) to photos and videos. But some smartphones, such as the iPhone, automatically embed the user's latitude and longitude in each photo's metadata. It's possible to disable the function, but the researchers said many people don't even realize that they might need to. ... computer security experts in Massachusetts, said they were able to uncover location information in photos uploaded by William Shatner, M.C. Hammer, Weird Al Yankovic, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others. ...most people don't even understand that they are posting this information online... do average people reall…

Brian Copenhagen turned me on to a to a piece of Shareware that seems to be an invaluable utility All the applications you get, especially the Universal ones , are loaded with a lot of files and information you don't need, including written compatibility with either Intel or Power PC processors and instructions, data, etc. in a host of different languages. Xslimmer weeds through all your apps and eliminates the the excess, thinning out your drives and saving disk space. It also helps you back up whatever you deem necessary, and costs $13.00 So far it has worked cleanly and effortlessly on 5 Macs. http://www.xslimmer.com/ Andy Rovins

Does anyone know of an inexpensive and downloadable program I can use to copy a few DVDs to my laptop or CF cards? We are traveling, and I'd like my kids to be able to watch movies on the laptop with less battery drain than the internal DVD drive. I would love to use my CF cards and a reader, if that would be better. I tried Mac The Ripper, but it created several files, which was confusing. I want a single mp4 or similar file which contains just the movie. Click and play for the kids. By the way, I own the real DVDs, which I bought retail, and I do not intend to share the files. No questionable activity here. Thanks. Robert

My wife Jean (a set decorator) and I are each breaking down different scripts for our upcoming jobs and we thought of something we would like to be able to do with a PDF of a script. We would like to be able to assign a set to each scene so that once complete you could easily see that scenes 12, 17, 45, 47 and 80 are all in "Sam's apartment" and you could easily view just those pages of the script. Similar to the way you put photos into albums in iPhoto. Then you could just click on the Sam's Apartment album and view the scenes that take place there. Any ideas? Is this maybe a functionality of Final Draft? We use Apple computers. Thanks, R

Lots of great news on the new iPhone 4 out there: Engadget Gizmodo MacRumors There's some amazing stuff in this phone, including the noise-cancelling microphone, a better transmitting/receiving antenna (the edge of the entire metal case), and much longer battery life (300 hours of standby). I was skeptical of the last phone, but I'm sold on this one. The 720P HD video quality looks very good for a device this small, and the camera is much improved, too. And those who have the time and patience can watch Steve Jobs' full 1-hour presentation here: Apple Streaming Quicktime There's a hilarious moment when Jobs can't get a webpage to load because the WiFi…

Steve Jobs had some interesting things to say when interviewed at the D8 Conference. I have put a few of the videos up for those who might want to hear what he had to say. I know we have people here who love Apple, we have people here who hate Apple, and we also have a whole lot of people that understand that way beyond our use of personal computers, Apple is a company that commands our attention. Videos available on my BLOG

Hello, I have found a few cheap USB Wireless N adapters on eBay for my kids' G4 MacMini (they complain the web is too slow). Just wondering if anyone here has used one of these. Thanks, Robert

I haven't found much that's very interesting yet--like a 2 track editor and some file conversion stuff. Any suggestions? Philip Perkins

Got this from CNET. What I found amusing was the You Tube video posted from the same Vietnamese web site that did the teardown of the iPhone 4G. The tech shows no respect for the packaging or what's inside. The hammering in the background also makes me wonder where the hell is he? Specifications for the MacBook that appear in the video include an Intel 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor (updated from the current 2.26GHz chip) and Nvidia GeForce 320M graphics (updated from the aging Nvidia 9400M graphics silicon). http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-20005073-64.html?part=rss&subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20

Apple - iPad - What is iPad? The Apple Newton was the first Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and was released in 1993. The Newton featured handwriting recognition which received a significant amount of bad press on launch. The recognizer improved significantly in the subsequent releases but it was never quite able to shake the bad reputation. The Newton line was discontinued by Steve Jobs himself after his return to Apple. While most people still carry a negative connotation with Apple's Newton, it was an ahead-of-its-time sort of device that had a hardcore fan base in its day.

There's an interesting war brewing between Apple and Adobe, as witnessed by this recent statement by Steve Jobs on Flash: http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ Jobs makes some good points that they have to move away from proprietary systems like Flash for mobile devices like the iPhone and the iPad, which use low-power chips. But Adobe is howling mad, and a lot of industry pundits are weighing in about it: Engadget Gizmodo Fortune And this doesn't even touch on the recent stolen iPhone prototype debacle, which is one of the most bizarre tech stories of the past decade. Jason Calicanis weighs in on this in an excellent editorial at this link. …

Hey, I'm a Mac guy. Infantalizing hardware Then there's the device itself: clearly there's a lot of thoughtfulness and smarts that went into the design. But there's also a palpable contempt for the owner. I believe -- really believe -- in the stirring words of the Maker Manifesto: if you can't open it, you don't own it. Screws not glue. The original Apple ][+ came with schematics for the circuit boards, and birthed a generation of hardware and software hackers who upended the world for the better. If you wanted your kid to grow up to be a confident, entrepreneurial, and firmly in the camp that believes that you should forever be rearranging the world to make it …

I am re-posting this with apologies to all MS PC fans, especially those that think Window 7 is the "cat's ass". This is a reply by Bruce Jones of Lectrosonics to a user who is having trouble getting his Windows 7 to "see" his Venue USB connection on Lecnet 2. Just reading how to "fix" the issue is enough for me to kiss my MacBook Pro. Re: Windows 7 Sorry for the delay. Windows 7 looks the same as XP with regard to the control panel, systems settings for USB, etc. So your fix is pretty simple. The easiest way to make the USB drivers available for the Windows New Hardware Found Wizard is to have the files on a removable disk or flash drive that is conn…

After one year and out of warranty, my MBP has a 3 minute battery now. I've been shopping for a replacement and reading the reviews of the third party stuff on line. Any experience with after market batteries for the MBP? Is an Apple battery the way to go?
